Chapter 772: Chapter 355: In War, Deception is Paramount
"Old Mo..." Lin Yi’s voice trembled slightly due to the icy chill of the environment, "Have you ever thought, if we accidentally end up dying here and return to the school zone as Zealots, wouldn’t that be explosively dramatic?"
"No." Old Mo decisively said, but then seemed to realize that his words were inappropriate and added, "The scenario you mentioned will not happen to me."
"But if it happens to you... I think it would be more than just dramatic. Given your traits, once you fall, it will be more than just ’Zealot’; I reckon it would give Boss quite a tough time."
"Of course... As of now, it’s only enough to trouble her a bit."
Boss... Lin Yi’s mind conjured the image of Boss, both majestic and formidable. Unexpectedly, in Old Mo’s words, Boss’s combat strength was also highly praised.
Moving forward, the grey mist in front of Lin Yi thickened, hanging low close to the ground like a grey-white ocean, leaving only limited space above. The inflow and outflow of the Grey Mist brought up dust-like particles, blocking Lin Yi’s vision like vapor, giving a feeling of being trapped in an endless labyrinth.
Walking here, every step was extremely difficult and filled with an unknown sensation. The surrounding darkness, along with the Grey Mist, continuously compressed the range of illumination provided by the Big eyeball, as if unknown dangers could emerge at any moment.
The dimly lit sconces in the corridors emitted a faint glow, barely illuminating a small area right in front. The light diffused in the Mist, unable to penetrate the dense darkness. The Mist mixed with the mournful wind, making the entire space seem even more eerie and mysterious.
Gradually, within the Grey Mist, Lin Yi began to hear a "Ding Dong Ding Dong" sound, as if someone was playing a musical instrument. The sound mingled with the wind and was carried slowly. It passed through many galleries before it reached his ears, having become very faint by then.
"Shasha shasha... Shasha shasha..."
On the walls of the corridor, shadows began to appear, moving rapidly like black hounds but ignoring the laws of physics as they stealthily crawled on the walls and ceiling.
They seemed to be some special kind of Nightwalkers, more agile and with lithe silhouettes compared to Purebred Nightwalkers, resembling hounds or leopards, grouping together. In terms of threat and harm, they seemed to be several levels higher than the merely imposing Purebred Nightwalker Crowd.
Old Mo took off an eyeball whose light was about to extinguish and squeezed it tightly in his hand, then threw it away.
The eyeball bounced a few times on the corridor floor before a burst of brilliant golden light emerged from its cracks, clearly outlining them. Immediately after, the eyeball exploded violently.
"Boom—"
The shockwave from the explosion cleared some of the Grey Mist. The shadowy hound-like Nightwalkers affected by the explosion cried out in sharp pain and then hid themselves, staring at Old Mo with hatred yet fear.
In fact, they weren’t wary of Old Mo but were wary of the string of eyeballs he held, which, stable as light bulbs, but unstable as hand grenades, could explode at any time.
"Let’s go." Old Mo quickened his pace, taking Lin Yi to the area cleared of Grey Mist.
Although some of the Grey Mist in that area was cleared, it quickly filled back in like seawater rushing back.
Not long after, Old Mo took off one more eyeball and proceeded just as before. Those hound-like Nightwalkers, seemingly learning nothing, continuously blocked their path, waiting for the moment the light extinguished.
The light in Old Mo’s string of eyeballs dimmed rapidly, and he threw the "bombs" with increasing frequency. In the end, due to the insufficient power of individual eyeballs, he combined several and threw them out together.
The light was about to extinguish, and the faint candlelight was also obstructed by the dense fog, making it impossible for Lin Yi to see Old Mo’s expression.
His fists gradually clenched, the dark and oppressive atmosphere inciting a claustrophobic anxiety inodzi him. He began to observe his surroundings more frequently, looking into the unclear darkness. A low growl rolled from his throat:
"Fuff fuff fuff... Fuff fuff fuff..."
He gritted his teeth, a hint of hot air hissed through his teeth, scattering some of the nearby Mist.
"Shasha shasha... Shasha shasha..."
The hound-like Nightwalkers around them made increasingly urgent sounds, and Lin Yi could even hear the sharp scraping of their claws on the uneven walls.
"Fuff... Fuff fuff..."
Lin Yi’s breathing became rapid.
Old Mo also fell silent, the atmosphere becoming stagnant, as if the calm before a storm was about to erupt.
This corridor seemed endless, a straight line stretching into the depths shrouded by darkness and Grey Mist.
Having walked so long, they hadn’t even seen a shadow of the Gallery, as if they were already lost in this corridor.
