Chapter 734: Chapter 338: Entering the Desolate Land Rashly (Part 2)
"Could it be... Old Mo is talking about Kuai Kuai?"
But Old Mo turned the suspicion towards Mountain Man.
"Some of these Pseudo-Humans here weren’t killed by me; it’s like someone brought some equipment with Supernatural Traits here..."
Old Mo bent down, reaching his hand below the leg-engulfing mist and lifted up a mutilated Pseudo-Human corpse.
This Pseudo-Human Sculpture was dilapidated beyond repair, as if it were shattered by some overwhelming force.
"Only a Sports Student could have such brute strength..." Old Mo mused, "But... if a Sports Student came here, they couldn’t possibly have left alive."
Lin Yi quickly asked: "Could it be that some Polluters put on specially made Battle Armor... I mean, something like Exoskeleton Armor?"
He suspected Mountain Man did it.
To his surprise, Old Mo actually knew about Exoskeleton Armor, but then shook his head: "Unlikely, do you know what the core material of Exoskeleton Armor is?"
"I don’t know, what’s the core material?"
Old Mo was just about to speak, but suddenly stopped as if he thought of something, and shut his mouth.
Lin Yi: "???"
"Why did you stop talking?"
"I’m afraid it’ll spoil your appetite," Old Mo said faintly.
Lin Yi was stunned: "Huh? No, just say it, will you?"
Old Mo then said: "Let’s just say... using Exoskeleton Armor to fight Pseudo-Humans is like ’using the spear of the opponent against the shield of the opponent’, and usually, Exoskeleton Armor itself cannot inflict fatal injuries on Nocturnal species or Pseudo-Humans."
He tossed aside the Pseudo-Human corpse by his hand: "And to achieve this... at least a Second-order Sports Student is required."
"Add the night-time factor, and the conditions become even tougher..."
But although Old Mo said so, Lin Yi still thought of Mountain Man, still believing this was Mountain Man’s handiwork — if this road really leads to the Desolate Land.
Otherwise, who else could have done it?
After examining, Old Mo tossed it aside like throwing out trash, and then continued forward, toward the twisted and entwining ancient trees!
Following Old Mo to the end of those ancient trees, as Old Mo moved through the chaotic branches, an open and desolate land, just like in the dream, unfolded before Lin Yi.
The floating Mist, the slightly concave terrain, the pit at the end, the large gypsum bodies spread over the land...
It was really that Desolate Land!
Before Lin Yi could come back to his senses, Old Mo had already made his way through the tangled woods and stepped nonchalantly into the territory of the Desolate Land.
He didn’t bother to conceal himself at all and walked out boldly, which caused the Zealots closest to him to freeze for a moment.
"Chef... couldn’t possibly get separated and wandered off, right?" A Zealot glanced at Old Mo and then, without paying any further attention, continued fiddling with the large gypsum bodies at hand.
Lin Yi was dumbfounded.
What the hell is this situation?
Just a glance and nothing further?
Zealots are this easy-going?
Do I look like someone serving dishes?
The key point is, not only did this zealot show no reaction, but even the other zealots who noticed Old Mo just glanced at him once and then diverted their eyes, as calmly as classmates might regard someone walking by from a neighboring class.
While he was still bewildered, Old Mo started moving on his own. He approached the nearest large plaster figure and tapped it: "Busy?"
That zealot lowered his head and sped up the process of dipping into the vessel containing the solid extraordinary material and then spread it over the large plaster figure, completely ignoring Old Mo.
However, Lin Yi noticed that the zealot’s body seemed to be trembling slightly as if he had an indescribable... fear of Old Mo?
"Hey?" Old Mo knocked on the large plaster figure again and after several questions went unanswered, he furrowed his brows, then walked over to the zealot’s side, and lifted the zealot up like picking up a little chick.
"Stop! Stop!!"
Just then, a hurried voice came from the depths of the Desolate Land.
Before Lin Yi could react, a chill overcame him and he noticed the mist stir in front of him, as a pitch-black silhouette swiftly approached from within.
Only when the mist had cleared a bit did Lin Yi notice that the newcomer was still a zealot, but from his Status, seemed to be one of the leaders among this group of zealots.
Accompanying the Fanatic Leader were two other figures, one on each side. To Lin Yi’s surprise, one of them turned out to be his "acquaintance"—that strange Art Teacher.
But now, she was no longer in her professional attire, instead clad in the dark green robes of the Zealots’ "uniform." Had it not been for the tattered hood, with more than a few holes tearing through it, he wouldn’t have recognized her immediately.
Seeing the strange Art Teacher, Lin Yi’s mind instinctively recalled the image of Mu Daxian amputating her leg, and thus his eyes involuntarily fell on her legs...
Upon looking, Lin Yi’s eyes carried an implicit, slightly appreciative glint.
Underneath the ragged cloak, the Art Teacher’s legs showed through, white with a tinge of blue-gray... Bare-legged and barefoot, she walked on the sandy soil of the Desolate Land, somewhat dirtied, yet seemingly with a different kind of allure.
Of course, upon closer inspection by Lin Yi, there were minor discrepancies; at least in comparison to the left leg, the "original feel" of the right leg was somewhat lacking—after all, it was her right leg that had been severed and then rewritten by Mu Daxian into a chicken leg before she herself discarded her "chicken leg" down from the Stone Bridge.
And now, evidently, she had attached a new one for herself.
"These zealots...indeed, cannot be treated as ordinary."
And just like that, another even stranger thought surfaced in his mind...
People like the strange Art Teacher, whose leg has been severed, are not only able to construct a new one for themselves but also retain their so-called "sanity." If such cases were broadcasted, could they be misconstrued by some as "medical marvels"?
Could people suffering from incurable diseases with current medical interventions possibly learn of a method for "high-efficiency regeneration" and thus figure out a way to become zealots in order to "regain life" as some alternative?!
This...?!
From a one-sided perspective, setting aside those who died on the path of "glorious evolution" as depicted by the Pseudo-Human Art Students, it seems indeed the case for the "survivors" that have emerged through survivorship bias...
At the very least, they are "living" in such a manner.
Thinking this, Lin Yi couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat, as if a cloud named "philosophical dialectics" loomed overhead...
While Lin Yi continued his wild speculations, the strange Art Teacher also noticed Lin Yi, especially his gaze filled with an "air of appreciation."
She narrowed her eyes, then lifted the hem of her cloak slightly...
A fleeting glimpse of allure flashed past Lin Yi’s eyes, causing his eyebrows to twitch involuntarily.
Then, Lin Yi suddenly came to his senses, his gaze swiftly shifted, and focused on the Art Teacher’s face.
Beneath the torn cloak, there was no longer that creepy smile stretched to the Teacher’s ears, just an odd expression of disdain: "So that’s what you’re into... Had I known earlier, perhaps I wouldn’t have let you slip away..."
