Chapter 580: Chapter 263 Ambush
The rules of the Teaching Building came with a map, which had a direct route from the Cafeteria area to the Gymnasium.
"I suggest you go straight there while the sun is still shining brightly," Tian Bufan said, and then asked, "You don’t have anything else to say, do you?"
Lin Yi pursed his lips: "That’s about it..."
"Then let’s leave it at that, I’ll go and try out your deciphering method," Tian Bufan said, "We can chat more in PE class."
"Okay," Lin Yi nodded his head.
Seeing Wei Shan wanting to follow Lin Yi, Tian Bufan stopped him: "Wei Sang, let’s go back to the classroom first."
Wei Shan obviously hesitated for a moment, but upon seeing Tian Bufan’s gaze, he didn’t continue speaking.
Wei Liang chuckled, "I’m not going back to the classroom. I’m heading to the gym to see the Boss, so he can set me up with a Sports Student sister to teach me ’bong dong bong dong’~"
He struck a breaststroke pose, for some reason resembling a sleazy Master Roshi.
"Alright, then we’ll head straight to the Gymnasium," Lin Yi was decisive, saying farewell to Tian Bufan and then found the "Gymnasium-001" lamppost near a corner on the road by the "Canteen-001".
Oddly enough, the "Gymnasium-001" lamppost was not easy to find; it was positioned directly opposite Building A of the Teaching Building. But once you got to the "Gymnasium-001" lamppost, you could only see the School Building Area and couldn’t see the structure of the Cafeteria at all. You could only find the "Canteen-001" lamppost within a limited area, which was used to deduce the location of the Cafeteria area.
Watching Lin Yi and Wei Liang as they left the Cafeteria area, crossed the "Gymnasium-001" lamppost, and entered the Gymnasium area, Wei Shan looked at Tian Bufan, full of confusion: "Young Master Tian, why didn’t you let me go with them?"
"You think I don’t know?" Tian Bufan lowered his voice, "Follow me to the Teaching Building. Don’t show any signs of strangeness."
Wei Shan was somewhat simple and straightforward, but not slow-witted. Seeing this, he nodded and then followed Tian Bufan into the School Building Area, heading towards the Teaching Building.
After a few steps, Tian Bufan spoke up: "I know, Old Lin is being followed by a Pseudo-Human Art student."
"That guy wrapped in bandages," Wei Shan squinted his eyes, murderous intent bristling within, "It followed us as soon as we left the Student Passage... It’s hiding in the Green Forest Belt, but that malice is like the stench of foot odor wafting over with the scent of the vegetation, impossible to ignore!"
"If I stay with Old Lin, I could get the drop on it; as soon as it comes, I can take it out, and maybe even get some information about the Pseudo-Humans."
Tian Bufan shook his head slightly without denying Wei Shan’s combat abilities but analyzed from another angle: "First of all, even if you could get some information, it might not be reliable... And secondly, there’s no need for you to make a move. Let Old Lin get used to the Pseudo-Human Art Student’s attack pattern a bit."
"Sooner or later... we are going to have to deal with them."
...
May 9, X023, 11:56, near "Gymnasium-001" lamppost.
Upon entering the Gymnasium area, Lin Yi began to feel something peculiar, an indescribable, faint discomfort that enveloped him the moment he stepped into the area, yet it took him a while to detect what exactly was wrong.
This silent change was like someone turning down the air conditioning by one degree.
Wei Liang was also unusually quiet, not hurrying Lin Yi along, but sneakily observing the surroundings, mimicking Lin Yi’s actions.
"Something’s off," Lin Yi murmured softly.
"There’s a feeling that something’s not right, but I can’t put my finger on it..." Wei Liang said, puzzled.
"It seems like... the temperature is slightly lower?"
Wei Liang pondered for a moment: "The Gym is situated a bit lower, and this part of the mountain road is downhill, facing away from the sun. A lower temperature... seems normal, doesn’t it?"
"Now that you mention it, that makes sense." Lin Yi glanced at the sky, not sure if it was just psychological, but he felt an oppressive sensation from what was a relatively clear sky as if it had been covered with a layer of clingfilm.
"Wait for me a moment." Lin Yi said and headed back the way they came towards the School Building Area, before returning to the Gymnasium Area from there.
As he passed the boundary, he paid close attention to the change; indeed, he had moved from facing the light to being against it, but... the temperature difference was a bit too great, wasn’t it?
"Must be somewhat affected by the map layers... Let’s go, head to the Gym first," Lin Yi muttered to himself, unwilling to linger any longer, eager to get to the Gymnasium, fearing that if he dwelled on it any longer, he might inadvertently encounter some intriguing little accident.
The cobblestone path to the Gymnasium was winding and twisting, with scattered lamp posts and a Green Forest Belt planted with camphor trees around. Deeper in, it was obscured by tall trees and thick mist, with mottled light penetrating the cold air.
As they walked a bit further, by the time they reached the sign in front of the Gymnasium, the road behind them had become less visible, leaving only the oddly shaped Gymnasium buildings resembling eggs paired with dried tofu in their view.
Crossing the sign, the air around them began to fill with a faint dampness.
It was now midday, and the sun should have been shining strongly, but very few rays actually fell into the Gymnasium Area, which was as stingily illuminated as a miser. The heavy sky and the moist environment made it feel as though one was wearing dry, spring-autumn clothing while standing in a bathhouse.
