Chapter 538: Chapter 242 "Back Step

A cry of alarm completely drew Lin Yi’s attention, dissipating much of the counterattack impulse lurking within his subconscious.

Wei Liang paused in his footsteps and even took a step backward...

Lin Yi reacted extremely quickly and hurriedly halted his motion to avoid colliding with Wei Liang.

It was that feint step backward which allowed the sunlight, that had previously been shining on Wei Liang, to pierce like an arrow at the green Pocket Chef that was now ominously close, now that Wei Liang’s body was no longer blocking it!

The green Pocket Chef was fast, but compared to the speed of light, it was not enough; it was struck directly by the morning sun.

"Sss——"

Two half-green Pocket Chefs failed to dodge in time and were hit by the sunlight. It was as if a bucket of water had been poured over sizzling stones, rapidly steaming up a large swath of mist tinged with green light, and their bodies petrified at a rate visible to the naked eye...

The other half was saved because it was slightly slower, leaving its lower half still in the shadows. Its upper half struck by sunlight turned to sculpture, and then, under the influence of gravity, fell to the ground with a "crack," covered in cracks.

Suffering heavy damage to its lower half, the green Pocket Chef was not fatally wounded; its legs, resembling chicken claws, kept scraping the ground, dragging its battered upper body bit by bit toward the shadowy area.

But those cracks could not bear the strain and crumbled away, shedding fragments until, with a "snap," they all broke apart, leaving only a pale spine smeared with tomato sauce, slowly dragged into the shadowy area.

The remaining two green Pocket Chefs hesitated to move rashly. Although their eyes reflected a strong desire, filled with greed and a thirst for killing, they dared not overstep because of their fear of sunlight.

However, Wei Liang seemed to be "completely unaware" of the changes happening to the green Pocket Chefs. He touched the back of his head, glanced at the floor tile by his foot, and said, without a word, "Ah, my mistake... Let’s keep going. We should be there soon."

With that, he continued walking forward.

To an ordinary Experience Student, Wei Liang’s actions appeared to be nothing more than a step back due to a misstep. However, that single step triggered a butterfly effect, a series of chain reactions that put down two green Pocket Chefs in pursuit!

Such maneuvers made Lin Yi’s eyes flicker with the revelation of a new world of possibilities.

In the eyes of those unaware, Wei Liang was just that, but in the eyes of Lin Yi, who knew many details, Wei Liang’s moves were fully detailed, even top-tier micromovements, precise calculations, with an effortless grace!

They had not walked many steps when Wei Liang pointed ahead, "Look, it’s over there. But I’ve never been inside; I just grab stuff at the door and swipe my card."

They looked in the direction Wei Liang pointed and saw a rather messy entrance in a corner where the incandescent lights of the Cafeteria couldn’t reach.

At the entrance hung a door with a "Open" sign swinging, and the other door was open inward, yet the inside was a chaotic blur, swirling with an eerie white mist that somehow seemed both foggy and shiny...

Around the entrance, however, there was an orange glow creating a domain of light, looking as if there were an invisible street lamp.

Outside the partially-open door were tables and shelves messily lined with various cookies, bread, and mineral water, looking as if unwanted near-expiration products were simply tossed there by someone.

"Indeed, it is the entrance to the Convenience Store!" Lin Yi exclaimed softly.

Wei Liang said, "All right, all right, so it is. But I advise you not to go in. It looks like someone dropped tear gas in there, all gray and murky, so off-putting! Let’s each pick three food items, swipe our cards, and run!"

As he spoke, he nimbly moved to the entrance of the Convenience Store within the illuminated area, skillfully picked up a roll of cookies, a piece of bread, and a bottle of water, and then went to a shopping terminal nearby, swiping his card.

He then placed his backpack on the ground, opened the zipper, and stuffed the cookies, bread, and water inside, adjusting their positions with some effort before finally squeezing the water bottle into the bag instead of into the side pocket of the backpack.

Lin Yi approached the shelves and saw a small sign hanging there. The sign succinctly stated—

[You may purchase up to three food items at a time. Each meal period is considered ’one time’!]

[It is forbidden to select any food items smeared with tomato sauce!!!]

[If you do not find a shopping terminal upon checkout, please discard the selected food items and return via the original path as soon as possible. If you find the original path is abnormal, enter the Convenience Store immediately!!!]

[Violation of any rule will be at your own risk!!!]

Compared to other notifications, the words on this sign couldn’t even be considered "rules"—they were more like "reminders." For Lin Yi who had seen his fair share of turmoil and had even entered the Convenience Store before, they didn’t offer much informational value.

Only the part [If upon checkout...enter the Convenience Store immediately!!!] was a new clue.

Lin Yi followed Wei Liang’s lead, selected a roll of cookies, a piece of bread, and a bottle of water, swiped his card, and similarly packed everything into his backpack.
