Chapter 240: 113-Chapter video 56 minutes and 34 seconds long
But the digital camera had already been partially encased in a plaster-like substance on the floor, and with a little effort, he pried the camera loose from it.
"Click—" the surrounding area of plaster-like substance crumbled into countless powders with a noise.
"You, you, you... you stay away from me! No, I should be the one staying away from you... You’ll get me killed! You’ll get us all killed!"
The girl scrambled up from her chair in a panic, clumsily running toward the row of seats far away, desperately trying to distance herself from Lin Yi as if fearing she would be tainted by misfortune. Along the way, she was bumped by an armrest that wasn’t properly stowed, and a red mark was scraped onto her thigh.
"Hey, classmate," Lin Yi called out to her, "if you really want to live, then move to the back row near the window."
After saying that, Lin Yi no longer paid attention to her but bent down to fiddle with the digital camera.
However, the camera had not been turned off and after being on all night, the battery was exhausted.
Lin Yi looked around and soon found a small shoulder bag nearby.
He walked over, picked up the shoulder bag, and upon opening the zipper saw some batteries.
"Just as I thought..."
It was common knowledge that there were no charging sockets on campus, and there was also no signal, so the person who had seen Pan Jian and planned on recording a video definitely couldn’t rely on just one camera; there had to be some spare batteries prepared in the bag.
He swapped in a new battery for the digital camera, and the screen of the camera suddenly lit up.
"It’s on!" A surge of excitement rose within him.
Taking advantage of this moment, he grabbed the digital camera and the shoulder bag, returned to his seat, and then began to browse through the album.
The first video was 56 minutes and 34 seconds long, and looking at the details, the recording time showed "22:47:31/7/5/X023."
"56 minutes and 34 seconds? That’s such a long time?"
He was momentarily stunned, then quickly realized what had happened.
The video must have continued recording after Pan Jian had started it and then been killed midway, so the camera kept recording until the battery died before it automatically saved, resulting in nearly an hour’s worth of footage.
As this realization dawned on him, he suddenly felt somewhat relieved; if it weren’t for this feature, he definitely would not have been able to see this precious footage.
He then pressed the play button.
"Zzz—Zzz—"
The video flickered with two lines like those seen when a television signal is unstable, and then the time "22:47:31" popped up in the top right corner.
Along with the ticking of time, the video started to move...
The scene in the video was a classroom with lights flickering on and off, students beginning to rise from their seats and run around, creating complete chaos with cries of alarm coming from all directions.
The camera followed their movement, capturing them as they crawled under the desks in the back of the classroom.
When the footage reached this point, a faint and somewhat disdainful "tch" sounded, probably an indifferent hum from Pan Jian, the person recording the video, upon seeing this scene.
Pan Jian’s camera work was amateurish, just typical filming, and when the camera’s timestamp reached 22:51:17, the last light in the classroom went out.
"’Wow~ This is thrilling...’" Pan Jian’s voice resonated within the frame, his tone clearly tense but seemingly more excited.
The camera swung around, distorting the image with a bit of afterimage and blurriness until the scene stabilized a bit, and right in the center of the frame was a non-human student slowly standing up from the seat, head drooping...
The non-human student, originally as expressionless as a rock, gradually formed a grotesque expression—its eyes bulged severely, as if they would pop out of their sockets, and the corners of its mouth stretched unnaturally wide to the roots of its ears.
Suddenly—
A white line flickered across the screen with a "zzt," and when the image cleared, the non-human student had already appeared in front of the camera.
An abrupt close-up of a giant face, bulging eyes filled with blood vessels, a wide, mad cackle revealing drool-strung teeth—it almost sent Lin Yi, who had been squinting at the small screen of the digital camera, reeling on the spot.
Lin Yi’s hand trembled, almost dropping the camera, but he instinctively grabbed it tightly again.
The frame began to shake, blurring and then becoming clear again—now the lens had moved to the stairs. Off-screen sounds of flesh colliding with stone and Pan Jian’s pained cry, "Ah—You, what the fuck are you doing?!" could be heard.
The screen suddenly went pitch black, and amidst the shaking of the camera, the scene shifted outside the window.
The window revealed flickering white light, like that of a searchlight cutting through the curtain of rain, flitting back and forth.
Thunder roamed the skies, and raindrops the size of beans pitter-pattered like bullets upon the blast-resistant glass...
Suddenly—
"Wait!"
Lin Yi hit the pause button, then rewound the footage a few seconds and played it again.
In the brief, blurry scene that flashed by, Lin Yi noticed some indistinct shadows outside the blast-resistant glass that appeared to be some creatures peering into the classroom from atop the glass.
"What is that?" Lin Yi wondered with some surprise, "Is that a twisted sculpture?"
By sculpture, Lin Yi meant the plaster-like kind, not the kind that could be defined as "sculptures" made of twisted and glittering, splintered shards of glass in the contour of figures.
Lin Yi rewound and watched several times but couldn’t see clearly, so he continued to watch.
