Chapter 155: Chapter 71: The Standing Ocean and Sky
This isn’t an exaggeration; it’s literally "not a single hair."
In front of Lin Yi was a pure white "blank" world.
Just like when Neo entered the room where the Prophet resided in The Matrix, there was nothing in his field of vision, and because there was nothing, there was a void.
Lin Yi felt a slight crack in his resolve. He was only a few steps away from reaching Dormitory 1414, but in the end, he had to face this.
Is this what laying the groundwork for a desperate fight looks like?
Nearly 100 extracted, yet missing a dime, do you really need to show up to round up and make a cut?
After cutting ninety percent, cut ingots, after ingots, cut diamonds, then tell you more people are needed to keep cutting...
"It’s not just a dormitory building, dammit... who plays like this?!"
Lin Yi’s inner monologue was rich, but no matter how elaborate, he couldn’t use it to grumble his way back to reality.
Before him was still an expanse of nothingness.
He slowly swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
"Gulp..."
The sound was clear and audible, as if the whole world had fallen into dead silence.
He didn’t even dare to look back, fearing that upon turning around, the world behind would also be a void...
If that were the case, he would truly be in trouble.
"Wait a minute... something’s not right!"
A flash of inspiration sparked in his mind.
"Behind me?!"
He took a deep breath and slowly lifted his right foot, tentatively taking a step backward.
His toe touched the ground...
A look of relief crossed his face.
It seemed the space behind him wasn’t empty after all!
Slowly, his heel touched down as well.
But he suddenly realized something and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead—his body, while taking a step backward to feel for something, had become frozen in place as if petrified.
Indeed, he had stepped on something, but it wasn’t the floor of the corridor he should have been on.
It was a hard, wet, and slightly uneven stone slab with a rough surface.
A thought popped up in his subconscious mind, like a little devil emerging from his shoulder, urgently whispering to him:
[This is not the dormitory building, this is not the dormitory building...]
But his rationality, like a little angel emerging from the other shoulder, pressed the little devil to the ground and rubbed it, mouthing Lin Yi’s voice:
"This is the dormitory building... this is the dormitory building..."
Cold sweat trickled down Lin Yi’s nose.
Time passed unknowingly, and the void world began to shift ever so slightly.
Lin Yi initially thought it was his powerful willpower, which had managed to resonate with the surrounding world...
But he quickly realized it was just a pale fantasy.
There was no resonance, only a kind of... predetermined trajectory.
The slight trembling sensation grew stronger, and soon the void blank world began to transform.
His senses started to kick in.
First was his hearing.
Sounds sharp as blades, like the noise produced by high-speed objects rubbing against the air, pierced his ears...
"Whoosh whoosh—whistling—"
Then, a powerful gust of wind laced with an indescribable smell engulfed him, furiously forcing its way into his nostrils and mouth!
The smell evoked an image of mud being stir-fried as if it were a dish in a pot;
It was like fermented fish and shrimp left marinating in a jar for half a month, then the first waft of stale, turbid air burst forth the moment the clay seal was broken...
This smell had surpassed the scope his olfactory senses could handle, and also exceeded the range his brain could react to, leaving only a weak and pale bit of information to seep into his mind.
This information told him it was colorless, odorless, indescribable, imperceptible, and utterly eerie...
Next was his vision.
He saw a faint ripple finally appear in that void blank area, which felt like an intense and blinding white light.
He knew that the initial unknown void would definitely not be a swath of white light.
But now it was.
The white light invaded his vision, accompanied by the howling wind beside his ears, making him feel as if he were in some kind of dark, moist wind tunnel!
He felt a strong force pushing him from behind.
Whether it was a push or not was beside the point.
Because the white light suddenly started to expand rapidly in his vision, as if surging towards him, as if he was being propelled towards it.
In any case, he felt himself breaking through some kind of shackles.
A pure, involuntary breakthrough.
"Whoosh—boom—"
The white light burst and then gradually dimmed.
This change in vision gave him a strong sense of déjà vu.
He felt as if he were rushing out of a tunnel, like in the "Roller Coaster Murder Case," racing out of a dark cave on a roller coaster into dazzling white light.
Because of the disparity in lighting, he initially saw a swath of white, but as his eyes adjusted, he was gradually able to discern his surroundings.
It appeared to be... a sky.
A pitch-black sky.
The thick clouds covered the high heavens like a cotton-padded jacket, and above the sea of clouds, there was a clearly yet vaguely outlined sun.
It’s vague because this sun was a pure black, seemingly merging with the dark sky.
Yet it was distinct because it was surrounded by a halo of gold, impossible to miss.
