Chapter 72: First Day of Training
The following day, Lana guided Evelyn and me deep into the forest, ascending high into the mountains.
We found ourselves in an area surrounded by Tamarack trees. Fresh snow clung heavily to every slender twig, transforming their natural conical shapes into pristine, white silhouettes, like giant, unadorned Christmas trees.
Lana wore an off-the-shoulder white blouse of lightweight fabric, its wide neckline baring her collarbones and shoulders. Dark brown leather belts and straps intricately cinched her waist and hips, her hair pulled back in a neat bun.
Evelyn wore the same attire as Lana, appearing remarkably unfazed by the biting cold.
Lana had dressed me for flexibility over warmth: a white long-sleeved shirt with a high neckline, layered under a dark sleeveless vest. Brown leather straps formed an ’X’ across my chest, connecting to a wide, multi-layered belt at my waist. Dark, fitted trousers were tucked into knee-high brown leather boots.
The three of us stood in a close triangle, our boots sinking into the snow.
"It’s cold out here," I muttered, rubbing my palms together and blowing into them.
Lana stepped closer, taking my hand and pulling back my sleeve to examine my forearm. "Your mana control is lacking," she stated, her tone direct.
Her head lifted, her gaze piercing mine, small snow crystals glinting in her light green hair. "You’re forcing your mana to flow through the wrong arteries, causing them to rupture."
"But I thought the injury was from my abilities’ recoil," I countered, holding her emerald gaze.
Lana took my hand and placed it on her left breast. "Listen to my heartbeat," she instructed. Her sudden action startled me; my palm unexpectedly cupped her soft breast. I felt its warmth, its yielding texture, as she pressed my hand harder against her.
Lana explained, "I need you to sense the moment mana leaves my heart and trace it as it flows into my arteries."
"What?" I blinked.
Lana’s gaze flickered to my hand, then back to my face, a subtle pressure increasing on her chest.
A smile played on her lips, and she chuckled.
Evelyn, standing next to us, reached towards my crotch and fumbled with it. "He’s as hard as a rock," she announced.
Her actions made me step back, my cheeks flushing red as I averted my gaze from Lana.
"Did I turn you on?" Lana purred, leaning closer and lifting her chin, her eyes fixed on my face.
I remained silent, choosing to ignore her.
"Forgive me," Lana said, releasing my hand. "I forgot the type of person you are."
"What do you mean?" I finally returned my gaze to her.
An arrogant satisfaction twisted her lips, her gaze dismissing me as utterly beneath contempt. "You’re a pervert. Everyone in the House of Sinners knows that."
"Interesting," I forced a brittle chuckle and brazenly closed the distance between us. Despite her formidable power as the Demon Empire’s third strongest, I audaciously lifted my palms, cupping her breasts. My grip tightened, a gentle squeeze that deepened into a firm hold. "Alright then, since I’m a pervert, allow me to act like one."
Lana’s chuckle deepened, her fangs glinting, a predatory amusement in her eyes as if tasting the snowy air. "Don’t you understand? Beast-folk are devoid of sexual desire. Our mating is purely for offspring. Your human morals hold no sway over us." Her hand clamped onto my right wrist, forcing it against her heart. "Do as I tell you, okay? Listen to my heartbeat and try tracing the arteries my mana is coursing through."
I focused, feeling Lana’s heartbeat quicken, a rapid drum against my palm. But despite the intensifying rhythm, the subtle currents of mana remained elusive; I couldn’t locate their path.
"Tell me, was I channeling mana to my right hand or left?" Lana asked.
"Left?" I ventured.
"Wrong," Lana declared, and with a casual wave of her left hand, it simply dissolved, vanishing before my eyes.
Could she turn her body parts invisible?
"That’s a disappointment," Lana sighed, her gaze drifting to Evelyn, a subtle weariness in her voice.
She pressed two fingers to my forehead, applying gentle pressure. ’Let’s try a more advanced method, one that demands sharp eyesight.’ Lana lifted her fingers from my head and returned them with more force, repeating the step several times before halting.
’I’ve transferred a few drops of mana into your forehead. This will awaken the blood flow around your eyes, sharpening your eyesight to an extraordinary degree.’ She took my hand and inserted it into her cleavage. "I need you to imagine a green light pulsing in the location of my heart. After that, look at my chest and tell me if you see any green glow."
I blinked twice and nodded.
Her heartbeat surged, escalating rapidly: 100, then 200, 300, 400 beats per second. "Could you see anything?" Lana asked.
I shook my head. "No."
Lana’s heartbeat climbed to 500, then 600, and at 700 beats per second, it pulsed with an internal luminescence, a vibrant green glow radiating from her chest.
"I see it!" I shouted, staring intently at her chest.
Lana slowly pulled my hand away from her chest and walked three steps back. She extended her hands in opposite directions, standing in a ’T’ shape. "Can you still see it?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I need you to look at the left section of my chest and observe closely the artery I will use to transport mana toward my middle finger."
As I watched, a vibrant green line pulsed, extending from Lana’s heart to her middle finger, clearly illustrating the flow of blood mixed with mana to her fingertips.
"This is the primary artery for channeling mana to your hand. Using smaller or combined arteries will severely hinder your control, so always utilize this main pathway for techniques."
Next, I observed three additional arteries glow: one from her heart to her right hand, and the other two from her heart to her feet.
"These four arteries are sufficient for any technique requiring 100ps core power. Master their use, and your control will improve with practice."
Lana walked closer and extended her palm. ’Let’s make this your first true test. Hit me with your negative touch, at 100% core capacity.’
"Are you sure?" I balled my fist, shifting my weight, one foot digging into the snow. "The last time, it shattered an arm and tore a hole clean through a person’s gut."
Lana grinned. "My instructions stand. Channel mana through the artery I showed you, and unleash your full power."
