An Angel Lives in the Academy -
Chapter 180: The Angel Who Receives Observation Class (3)
What?
Soya could feel various emotions condensed in that short word.
The first emotion she felt was anger, then pain, followed by despair.
And finally, what she could sense was sadness.
Seeing Leffrey’s darkened, serious expression, Soya could only keep her mouth shut without uttering a word.
Covering his face with his hands, Leffrey muttered as if whispering to himself, ‘That can't be right. There's no way they would come to see me.’
Then he said this.
“Ah, are they from my mother’s side of the family? I’ve never met them before.”
Leffrey recalled his memories from his past life.
He had never once met anyone from his mother’s side of the family. In other words, it meant that Leffrey's mother had been cut off by her family. But now they want to meet him all of a sudden, after all this time?
“What are they thinking, coming to see me now of all times?”
“Well, I’m not exactly sure either, but…”
Soya continued speaking while watching Leffrey's complexion.
“I think it’s best for you to go and find out yourself. I went to the student council, but they said they couldn't tell me unless you come in person.”
“I see.”
The discarded blanket and the cluttered clothes. Just a few days of laziness had turned the room into this state.
But it didn't matter.
After all, Leffrey was a master of Cooking, Cleaning, and Repair (Lv.10).
Truly, Leffrey, the Housework Angel.
“Then I’ll have to go myself.”
He thoroughly cleaned the room and quickly repaired the worn-out school uniform. Then, he checked in front of the mirror to see if anything was lacking.
He tightened his shoelaces and brushed off the dust from his white uniform. With burning determination, Leffrey strode out of the cathedral.
* * *
The relationship between Leffrey and the student council.
In short, they could be described as sworn enemies.
‘Honestly, I’ll admit it.’
Leffrey, when he was a mere first-year, messed with the student council several times. If any of the student council executives were to develop neurosis, then half of it was probably because of Leffrey.
‘It's not *that* bad!’
Anyway, Leffrey and the student council weren’t on good terms.
“Well, according to the rules, we can’t disclose a student’s personal information to another student.”
“But that student is me.”
So it wasn’t strange for a situation like this to occur.
“We can't make exceptions to the rules.”
“I’m telling you, that student is me!”
“Even if it's the person themselves.”
“Urgh! What are you even saying!”
In his heart, Leffrey wanted to shout, ‘Get me your manager!’ and turn into his Bully Angel form.
‘But the more I do that, the more they'll refuse to tell me.’
The student council executives would probably enjoy watching Leffrey struggle to get the information.
A chance to finally get their revenge on Leffrey has arrived. They would do whatever it took to keep the information from him.
In the end, only the lower-ranking student council members and Leffrey would be frustrated...
“Okay.”
Leffrey heaved a deep sigh and nodded.
“Okay, I understand for now.”
But Leffrey wasn't the type to give up like this.
* * *
“So, boy, you’re saying you want to learn how to be a night visitor?”
“W-Well, rather than a night visitor, it's more like gathering information in a somewhat different way…”
“That's the same thing.”
*Whack*—Hongwol's fierce palm struck Leffrey's back hard.
“Ouch!”
“There’s no need to be embarrassed. No, you thought well. If you really want something, then you shouldn’t be picky about the methods. To be picky about methods means…”
“Means?”
“…that you don’t really want it that much.”
“I-Is that so?”
Thinking about it, it was true.
Last time, he had become Leffrey, the Thief Angel, too.
And this too would also be a righteous theft, so it wasn't exactly wrong for an angel.
“I too buy what I can buy with money. If I can receive something as a gift, I accept it as a gift. If I can make it, I try making it too. And I don’t take things that I don’t truly desire, just because it's expensive and rare.”
Hongwol's pink eyes sparkled for a moment.
The vertical slits of her pupils seemed a bit sharp.
“But if it's something that can't be obtained that way, if it's something that can't be obtained through legal means…”
The pink-haired girl muttered as if entranced.
“Then there's no helping it. Boy, isn't what you want this time something like that?”
What Leffrey wanted. Information about who would be coming to see him during the observation class.
Leffrey wanted to know that information so badly.
“Mhm…”
Hongwol smiled brightly at Leffrey's faint reply.
As if she was truly delighted.
“So you understand after all.”
And then Hongwol muttered something while seemingly gazing into the distance.
“When there's something you really want, there's no helping it. Thank you for understanding.”
“You’re welcome.”
Leffrey felt a slight chill. But he dismissed it as the air conditioner being set too low and continued speaking.
“Then should we raid it tonight?”
* * *
The Central Academy Student Council Building.
The organization at the very top of the school cartel, wielding more power than the student council of other academies due to the Central Academy's emphasis on student autonomy.
As seen before, even the midterms and other important exams were overseen by the student council. The same went for judgments and punishments.
Various administrative tasks that would normally be handled by the administrative office were also handled by the student council, and even the security and policing within the academy were decided in this building.
A part of the academy budget was even approved and processed here.
Truly, it could be called the heart of the Central Superhuman Academy.
That was exactly what the Central Academy Student Council Building was.
And naturally, being such an important facility, it was equipped with excessive security systems.
Security systems designed with the techniques of each professor.
“So boy, don't tell me what you want to break into is the Central Academy Student Council Building?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Meeeow.”
Under the moonlit night, Hongwol licked the back of her hand as if somewhat troubled. And Leffrey was intently watching her.
“Should I try mimicking that too?”
“Th-this is a meaningless action. I’m just doing it because there’s something on the back of my hand. So don’t copy me!”
Hongwol, her cheeks reddened, quickly muttered with her head lowered.
“Ahem, focus.”
“Focus!”
“As you know, the Student Council Building is the most heavily guarded place in our academy. Because if a demon army spy were to infiltrate, they would naturally try to gather information, and most of the academy information is stored there.”
Nod nod—Leffrey nodded, as he already knew.
“We Mooncat tribe deals in information. And to us information dealers, the Central Academy Student Council Building is literally a gold mine, no, something even more valuable than El Dorado.”
“I see.”
“Despite that, we gave up on it. We vowed never to try again.”
And Hongwol's expression turned serious.
“Leffrey, do you absolutely need to know this information? Enough to take all those risks?”
Was it really that important.
It was information he would be able to get next week, once the observation classes began.
All Leffrey had to do was wait.
For that day to arrive.
‘Yes, it’s something I’ll eventually find out. What’s the point of knowing in advance.’
If his relatives from his mother’s side were the ones coming, Leffrey would be a bit confused but not particularly upset.
Of course, he still held resentment and anger towards them for abandoning him and his mother…
But that was all.
Leffrey had experienced a lot of pain, and a pain like that was something he could easily endure.
However.
But if his relatives from his *father’s* side were the ones coming.
An indescribable darkness, one that shouldn’t exist in the heart of an angel, would fill Leffrey, and…
[Demonic power is responding to your dark emotions.]
[Demonic power is reacting.]
[Demonic power is reacting.]
[Demonic power is tainting the depths of your heart!]
There’s a famous line in a hero movie that says, ‘Madness is like gravity, all it takes is a little push to fall endlessly.’ (TL Note: The movie is The Dark Knight.)
Leffrey slightly modified that saying.
‘Corruption is like gravity, all it takes is a little push, and you fall endlessly.’
It doesn’t matter how it starts.
Those who are slightly pushed towards darkness and can't escape from it all end up like that.
They fall into corruption, commit sins because of that corruption, and then fall even deeper because of those sins, committing even more sins because of their further corrupted selves.
They fall endlessly like that until they finally reach hell.
Just like how the angel of Venus, once the brightest shining being in the world, fell to become the darkest of beings.
That was the dark truth that governed this world.
The cycle of karma.
That's why Leffrey needed to know.
If the world was going to push him towards darkness, he needed to figure out from which direction it would push him.
Because if he fell even once, he would fall too far to ever return.
‘To prepare and be ready…’
That’s why Leffrey needed to know who would be coming to the observation class.
“It’s information I absolutely need to know.”
Leffrey strengthened his resolve.
And Hongwol, seeing Leffrey like that, smiled.
“Then we must get it.”
“Yes.”
“Let’s make a plan. How can we extract the information Leffrey wants from there. Hmm. Meow. No, hmm.”
Hongwol asked again.
“Exactly what kind of information is it?”
“Um, well, Information about who’s coming to see me during the observation class.”
“…It’s important information, right?”
“Yes, it is.”
Her swaying tail showed that Hongwol was thinking. Leffrey could only silently watch as Hongwol gazed down at the Central Academy Student Council Building under the moonlight.
Hongwol’s pink hair swaying in the night breeze. Her custom-shortened Central Superhuman Academy uniform. And the red earrings that shimmered next to it.
Space out—After Leffrey watched Hongwol like that for several minutes.
Hongwol opened her mouth.
“Okay, let’s do it this way.”
“Do what?”
“I’ll go in and find it myself. It seems like that’s the easiest method.”
Leffrey was momentarily speechless at Hongwol’s confident reply. Shake shake- Finally regaining his senses, Leffrey quickly spoke up.
“What are you saying? I also have an Angelic Ability related to stealth.”
“I know. It’s an excellent stealth technique. And your skills have improved even more recently, right? Your footsteps, which were already light before, are now almost completely silent.”
However, Hongwol did not accept it.
“Still, it’s not going to work.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re an angel. Because you use an angel’s power.”
The girl continued speaking with a determined expression.
“The professors’ main enemy is the demon king. And the demon king is an angel, just like you, using the same powers. Do you really think that the professors wouldn’t have prepared any countermeasures against an angel’s powers?”
“…!”
“They’re probably prepared for it thoroughly. Much more so than other stealth techniques.”
Hongwol gently placed her hand on Leffrey’s hair. And enjoying the sensation, she began to gently stroke his hair with a delicate touch.
“Boy, trust this noona and wait patiently.”
“Noona? I'm probably older than you.”
“In our business, those with better skills are the noona and the unni.”
Hongwol smiled.
“Then, I’ll be back soon.”
“…Thank you.”
*Swoosh*—With a sound like falling snow, Hongwol disappeared into the night sky. And beyond where she vanished, an incredibly bright moon shone.
“So bright…”
Leffrey thought.
‘Everything will be fine. Everything.’
