An Angel Lives in the Academy
Chapter 134: The Angel Who Prevents Terrorism (7)

"S-sincerity, you say?"

"Yes, sincerity."

The boy, with an angelic face, uttered words that were not at all angelic. He looked at the head guard with a mischievous expression.

"You don't have to give me money. I'd just like you to do me one small favor..."

And the boy spoke.

Whisper whisper—A short, or rather, a long conversation took place, and the head guard, with a bewildered expression, muttered “I’ll do that.”

In fact, he had no choice.

He didn't know exactly what was going on, but this boy had an incredibly powerful backer.

These people, who had always submitted to power, lacked the backbone to refuse Leffrey’s absurd request.

‘I knew this would happen.’

Leffrey, neither excited nor disappointed, simply acknowledged this fact. Because he himself had once lived this way.

Submitting to a greater power,

And clinging to that power for his survival.

Anyway, this is how Leffrey was able to enter the Superhuman Management Bureau.

‘Now, which department should I go to?’

There was no need to think about it for long. Leffrey had Iriel's well-worn tarot card deck that she had used for a long time.

Leffrey could sense the flow of karma. So much so that Iriel, who was considered a genius in Heaven, praised it, Leffrey's sense of karma was truly exceptional.

The boy muttered,

“Asurabalbalta…”

Leffrey, the Gambler Angel, shuffled the cards flamboyantly. The staff in the main lobby, intrigued by the boy’s strange actions, glanced at him. (TL Note: Asurabalbalta is a chant used by a character from a Korean movie called Tazza: The High Rollers. Crazy part was that it was an ad-lib.)

“Asurabalbalta!”

The card he drew was The Emperor. A card that represented the head of an organization. It was so obvious that it needed no further interpretation.

‘As I thought, this insane plan was directly ordered by the Superhuman Management Bureau’s leadership.’

He didn’t know their reasons for attempting to cause a terrorist attack, but Leffrey couldn’t bring himself to forgive them.

Hiding his rising anger, he quickly headed for the lobby desk.

“Hello.”

Even though he was angry, he didn't forget to politely greet. Truly, he was Leffrey, the Greeting Angel.

As the boy bowed politely, the female employees at the lobby desk, surprised by their own instinctively rising smile, asked, “Ah, hello. What can we do for you?”

Their voices were laced with nervousness.

“I would like to visit the leadership of the Superhuman Management Bureau. Which elevator should I take?”

“Th-The leadership? Did you make an appointment in advance by any chance?”

“Not really…”

The female employees, as soon as they heard “not really”, made troubled expressions.

“The leadership is a core department of the Bureau, and access is strictly restricted for unauthorized personnel. I’m sorry, but we can’t help you.”

“No, there’s no need to apologize.”

As the female staff showed a genuinely apologetic expression, Leffrey nodded as if he understood.

‘They must have received a report from the guards at the front gate. They’re probably aware that I have a powerful backer. Yet they’re still following procedure.’

Leffrey was a little moved. He had entered, fully intending to abuse his power and throw a tantrum, but seeing them dutifully doing their jobs made him forget about those thoughts.

‘Come to think of it, the last time I came to get my registration card…’

The consultant at the Superhuman Registration Office had also maintained his integrity. Even in this dark world, there were those who protected what was right.

Leffrey smiled.

“Then I’ll just have to meet them in the lobby.”

“Yes…”

The female employee’s cheeks reddened slightly.

Leffrey nodding to the female staff, he then sat down on the comfy sofa in the lobby, biding his time.

He didn't contact anyone right away, either. He first called Professor Merrill, whom he had become close with, then searched for recipes for dinner to appease Soya's sulking.

After what he deemed that a sufficient amount of time had passed… Leffrey contacted someone again.

The one who let him through at the front gate earlier, the deputy director of the Superhuman Management Bureau, the second-in-command.

Then, within a few minutes, the golden elevator started moving. The moment its doors opened, all the employees in the lobby stood up.

Only Leffrey remained seated.

‘That elevator. It wasn’t broken after all.’

While dozens of other silver elevators had gone up and down countless times, only that single elevator hadn’t moved at all. And the golden elevator’s display had been pointing to the top floor of the Superhuman Management Bureau.

‘Is it an exclusive elevator for the leadership?’

And with a clear ‘ding’ sound, a man emerged. He had graying hair, a friendly-looking face, and gold-rimmed glasses that somehow looked dignified.

A moderately built physique that was well-suited for his jet-black, two-button suit. An expensive-looking tie pin and shoes that looked incredibly expensive.

That man, radiating an aura of authority, was the deputy director, Leffrey’s senior and the headmaster’s student.

“Leffrey… was it?”

The deputy director confidently offered a handshake, and Leffrey, as if mesmerized, accepted the handshake.

“Yes, I’m Leffrey.”

“…You really do resemble Master.”

The deputy director and Leffrey, after shaking hands, stared at each other silently for a few seconds, as if evaluating each other.

“So you’re the same kind.”

The deputy director muttered, seemingly intrigued.

“That’s right. The same kind.”

Leffrey replied with an indifferent tone.

“In any case, what on earth was the lobby doing, not sending up such a precious guest immediately?”

The deputy director raised his voice. It was obviously meant for the female employees at the lobby desk to hear.

“Hmm? What on earth were they doing?”

“Wait!”

Leffrey, seeing the deputy director approaching the lobby, bit his lip.

‘So he’s the real bully.’

The boy, without a moment’s hesitation, blocked the deputy director’s path. Angelic Power, the more you have, the better. More is always better.

“Please stop. They were just doing their duty.”

“…”

[Protecting the weak from an unjust power is an angelic act!]

[You have gained Angelic Power.]

The deputy director and Leffrey, looking at each other once more.

Leffrey swallowed the words, ‘And those people are much more righteous than someone like you.’ in his heart. The deputy director, still wearing an amused expression, didn’t say anything.

“You’re different from Master.”

“Well, we’re different people, after all.”

The deputy director of the Superhuman Management Bureau nodded, then used the palm biometric scanner to call the elevator again.

“Then, Leffrey, shall we continue this conversation upstairs? There are too many ears listening here.”

“Yeah, sure. Let’s go up. I’m curious what you’ve prepared for me up there.”

Thus, Leffrey and the deputy director boarded the golden elevator. The deputy director, watching Leffrey enter the elevator without hesitation, muttered to himself,

* “He has no fear. Is it because he's too old, and his nerves are worn out? Or is it because he's too young and doesn't know anything?” *

The interior of the elevator was luxurious and extravagant. Not only was it decorated with gold, but even various gemstones were used lavishly, making it look as if a crown had been fashioned into the shape of an elevator.

‘It’s moving fast.’

Although it was moving quickly, it still took some time to reach the top floor. The Superhuman Management Bureau was that big of a building.

“How did you find out?”

The deputy director asked in a casual tone, as if he were simply asking, “What did you have for breakfast this morning?” Leffrey cautiously answered.

“It’s a trade secret.”

“Haha, how witty.”

The deputy director continued in a relaxed tone,

“Master taught me many things. That the fate of this world hangs by a thread. And that anything is permitted to protect this world. Because that is what it means to serve the greater good.”

Leffrey nodded. To find out why they were planning a terrorist attack that could kill thousands, he had no choice but to listen to their story for now.

“That’s why it was justifiable for the Central Academy to attempt to completely purify the Old Citadel. And it was also justifiable to leave their own comrade, Princess Hexi, in her state of suffering.”

“But our professors are different. They realized their mistake and never actually did it.”

“Then shall we talk about what the professors did in the past, before Mr. Leffrey walked the earth? About the sacrifices they had to make to protect this world from the demon king?”

Just what did they do in the past?

Leffrey shook his head and changed the subject.

*Ding*—The golden doors opened with a pleasant sound.

“We’ve arrived.”

“Indeed, we have.”

Thus, Leffrey arrived at the top floor of the Superhuman Management Bureau headquarters, the leadership’s floor.

Next to the door were numerous superhumans in black military uniforms. And even the floor had several special magic circles engraved. This was a trap.

But Leffrey wasn’t surprised.

He simply asked the deputy director,

“So, the terrorism you’re planning, is it a necessary sacrifice like you said. A sacrifice to save the world….”

“That’s right. It’s a sacrifice needed to protect this country.”

I see. So that's how it is.

Just for a reason like that.

Even a single person might be more precious than an entire country.

“So you’re planning to agitate the people by falsely claiming that democratic activists are behind the terrorist attack, to increase the power of the Superhuman Management Bureau.”

“It’s to acquire the power we need. And to purge the rebels who are eroding this country.”

“By detonating a massive amount of explosives, completely wiping out a part of Old Seoul.”

“Haha, well, all I’ve learned from Master are things like this.”

Leffrey couldn’t help but admit it.

Iriel was an excellent teacher.

Being able to raise a student so perfect for her goals. Leffrey couldn't help but feel goosebumps all over.

“But I want to give you one last chance.”

“…?”

“Because I’m an angel, a being that doesn’t give up on people. So, even to a sinner like you, I’ll give you one last chance.”

Leffrey pleaded with sincerity,

“Please, stop this madness.”

But instead of an answer, what he heard was...

“Kukuk. Kuhuhuhu…”

…The distorted laugh of the deputy director, barely holding back his wild laughter.

“So, sending an agent to appeal to our compassion was all the Headmaster could do? You’ve become so weak. My Master. You've become weak and soft.”

“…I don’t think she’s gotten soft at all.”

The deputy director shook his head and muttered,

“I’m disappointed. I thought the new angel walking the earth would be someone like Master. But it was just an ignorant brat instead.”

With those words,

He took out a scroll from his pocket.

“You’ll regret this. You will…”

“It's high up here. Enjoy the view of our great work, from up here. Since you’re an angel. You’ll have to work hard for us from now on as a strategic asset in the future, so showing you this kind of spectacle is a given.”

And then the scroll was activated.

A loud explosion was heard. An incredibly loud explosion. A sound so massive, It was as if the entire world was being destroyed and recreated.

It came from the floor below them.

“...What? What's happening!”

“I told you that you'd regret it.”

And the floor where Leffrey stood began to shake violently.
