Chapter 110: Chapter 110: The General Sect Leader is an Honest and Sincere Man

No choice but to agree.

Old Karl now has neither the connections nor the backing he once had, and he’s already reached retirement age. Most of his old friends are nearly all dead, and these young punks on the streets have no sense of honor.

Time changes too fast!

"Do I need to pay you a deposit first?" Old Karl inquired.

"No need; your recycling station is right here, you can’t run away, and I still trust you," Allen Zhang waved his hand, "Once we finish today’s work, we’ll go find those people for you and teach them a lesson! How much money did you lose in total?"

"$4000," Old Karl said.

Allen Zhang stared at him for a while before saying, "I feel like you’re not being honest, my friend."

Old Karl touched his nose and gave an awkward smile, "Alright. It was actually just $3000 worth of stuff. I had already made arrangements with the recycling company for them to come today to collect the junk. Now I have to pay for the transport myself, didn’t earn a cent and even had to pay out of pocket, it’s so unlucky!"

"That $3000 worth of goods, if I retrieve them for you, you give me an additional $500. If I can’t recover them, you still have to pay me $1500."

Allen Zhang said, "Don’t hurry to refuse. Even though those gang members are charging you $2000, they’re definitely not going to ensure your losses are compensated for, right? Or they might even take that money too. Since I’m giving you a guarantee, if that money can be retrieved, I absolutely won’t embezzle it!"

Old Karl did the math and realized he wouldn’t be at a loss. The General Sect Leader is still a man of integrity!

He readily agreed, "Good. If you can recover those losses for me, I’ll give you an extra $500! From now on, when we collaborate on recycling cans, I’ll definitely give you a fair price!"

"So it’s settled then." Having reached a mutual understanding, Allen Zhang left satisfied.

Riding a Trek Bicycle, he left Eito Street and headed to the old turf of the Irish.

These Europeans don’t have much territory of their own, relying entirely on foraging and looting, acting in the West Coast as if they were pure-blooded Onsa pirates.

Other than Jon, the boss who makes secret deals behind the scenes and operates businesses on the sly, the main business is to profit from the difference saved by the can recycling machines—a can sells for 5 cents at the recycling station, while the machine offers 6 or 7 cents, but the installation in Fifth Street doesn’t get used much.

The area with the most can recycling machines is in Chinatown, where there are also many Asian Scavengers. Don’t think that everybody is just a Scavenger, those folks are highly educated beasts—experts, scholars, PhDs, you name it, far surmounting the cultural and educational level of the homeless on the poor streets!

Moreover, they have cars to drive, homes to live in, their standard of living is on a completely different level. They’d rather pick up trash here than go back to their home country.

Arriving in this neighborhood, he immediately spotted the familiar figures of Sieg and two Beggar Gang Disciples.

Allen Zhang directly rode over, crossing the traffic lights and called, "Hey! Guys, how’s work going?"

"Not bad," Sieg chuckled. He no longer had to pick up cans and was instead following the General Sect Leader on ventures to grab territories, making even more money.

"Boss, what brings you over here?"

Allen Zhang glanced around, realizing it was crowded and not a good place to talk. He gestured to Sieg to join him in a milk tea shop, where they ordered two cups of cappuccino.

$4.8 per cup, with a 15% service tip. This was the first time Allen Zhang had tipped, and he simply gave them an even $12.

Sieg felt a bit of pain, "12 dollars could buy me a box of 9mm bullets from a friend."

Your friend sells wholesale bullets that cheap?

"Don’t be so stingy, Sieg. Our business is on the right track now, and we’re going to make more and more money. That guy Jon is paying $3,400 a month in rent! Plus, he’s spending $20,000 to keep two models, living like an emperor. You gotta catch up to him!" Allen Zhang immediately corrected the other person’s attitude.

You can’t stay cheap forever just because you used to be a bum. The salary for Officers and Noncommissioned Officers in the military is surely over $150,000 a year!

I won’t nitpick about how much you’ve skimmed off the arms dealing; it’s an astronomical figure beyond outsiders’ imagination.

"I knew the guy was rich, but I didn’t expect him to be this rich!" Sieg was also surprised at Jon’s financial depth.

That’s just the head of Scavengers we’re talking about. Don’t even try to imagine how much those gang leaders make every day.

Compared to that, the dividends collected by the General Sect Leader of the Beggar Gang look like child’s play.

If you don’t enrich yourself a little, how are you ever going to have money?

The waiter brought over the cappuccinos, and Allen Zhang had a sip but still wasn’t quite used to it.

Sieg, on the other hand, drank it without batting an eyelid and asked, "Boss, what did you want to discuss by bringing me here?"

"We have quite a few things that need to be taken care of. I found $5,000 and a blue passport, plus a numbered Glock 17 handgun in Jon’s safe. But that’s not the main issue. Jon’s partners will probably come looking for trouble, and we need to be prepared in advance," said Allen Zhang.

"I saw it coming." Sieg nodded, "Don’t worry, they wouldn’t dare to openly mess with us!"

"Let Dominic handle the can-picking business. From now on, your main job is to escort and protect the team, recruit ex-military personnel, have the newbies start at the grassroots level, and if any of them have a CCW license, they can be considered first for forming a security team."

Allen Zhang decided to promote Sieg to a higher status in the Beggar Gang, "Richie is a good choice. Too bad he lost an arm, but having him in charge of Dean’s beggar project for the disabled is indeed a smart move!"

"That was Dominic’s suggestion," replied Sieg promptly, "I’ll make sure to arm them first if their physical and mental conditions are manageable, without you telling me to."

"We also need to go to Modern Brothers’ Bridge Hole No. 9 later tonight to take care of some things," Allen Zhang elaborated on Old Karl’s commissioned task.

Sieg expressed no problem with that.

Allen Zhang took out the $5,000 he had received yesterday. $2,000 of it was already earmarked, wrapped in wax paper along with the bill.

"Go visit Officer Mig in the hospital. He hasn’t been discharged yet. Bring him something, anything’ll do."

Sieg nodded silently and pocketed the money.

Allen Zhang then took out the remaining $3,000, also wrapped in wax paper.

"When you have time, meet with your friend again, buy some more stuff that’s strong but within regulations. You know more about this than I do since I’m clueless."

Allen Zhang added, "However you decide to buy, make sure others won’t dare to mess with us. As long as we’re safe, that’s enough. Don’t even tell me the price. If there’s excess, keep it, but don’t get too crazy – don’t use your military ways on me!"

The General Sect Leader may be willing to play the role of Liu Bang, but that’s because he hopes you can be his Han Xin.

"How could I! Leave it to me!"

Sieg stated that he wouldn’t take so much as a screw’s worth of corruption; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been kicked out of the military.

It was all because he couldn’t blend in with those creatures of the swamp. But as the saying goes, learn from your mistakes – he’s learned to adapt somewhat by now.
