Chapter 1118: 382, target, Cadillac
At this moment, three days had passed since Donnie’s ambush, and Rhode Granger was sitting in his office, listening to reports from others.
"Mr. Granger, we’ve confirmed with everyone about the photos of the three killers, but no one recognizes them!"
"We’ve also visited all hotels in Washington, and no one recognizes them!"
"We’ve investigated the car, it was a stolen vehicle reported three days ago, and we’ve checked the owner as well, there’s nothing suspicious!"
"We’ve also investigated the weapons, and there’s no discovery!"
Listening to the reports from his subordinates, Rhode Granger’s face darkened slightly. These three gunmen were killed on the spot, which made it extremely difficult to investigate their identities further!
"So, you’re saying we can’t determine their identities, nor can we trace them back?"
Unable to ascertain their identities by now left Rhode Granger very frustrated!
"Our initial suspicion is that they aren’t from Washington. Mr. Donnie Block has significant influence, and the mastermind designed this assassination meticulously, so they probably wouldn’t hire Washington locals to do this!"
A subordinate offered his suggestion!
Rhode Granger was inspired by this remark and silently noted it.
"These people can’t just appear out of nowhere. As long as they’re in Washington, they’ll leave traces. Search the entire city; I refuse to believe they’re rats from the sewers appearing out of thin air!"
Saying this, Rhode Granger paused before continuing, "Ladies and gentlemen, I know this task is not easy, but consider Mr. Block’s donation to us—an unprecedented $2 million donation to the FBI."
After experiencing the shooting incident, Donnie personally donated $2 million to the FBI and $1 million to the Washington police department!
Upon hearing Granger mention Donnie’s donation, everyone became energized.
After assigning tasks, Rhode Granger took several key testimonies he had and left the FBI headquarters to head to Block Manor!
At the manor, Rhode Granger met Donnie.
First, he informed Donnie of the various situations reported by the FBI.
After hearing this, Donnie frowned.
"For the opponent to arrange multiple gunmen so precisely to Washington indicates their power is undoubtedly significant!" Rhode Granger explained his analysis to Donnie.
He then continued, "Furthermore, setting up an ambush during your return trip indicates the opponent certainly has your itinerary tracked!"
Donnie nodded slightly, saying, "So you’re implying only a few individuals could orchestrate this?"
Rhode Granger kept his head down, not answering Donnie’s question.
Though Donnie hadn’t deliberately hidden his trip to Washington, only those present at the party that night and some White House staff knew he would attend President Coolidge’s dinner!
"Boss, investigating these individuals poses certain challenges!"
Rhode Granger knew Donnie understood his implication!
Without responding to Granger, Donnie took out scratch paper and began writing names.
John Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Andrew Mellon, John Hines, John Garner, Sherlock Bailey, Imre Kem, Karl Lorentz, Bench Towns.
These were the individuals present at the time.
Donnie initially planned to eliminate John Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Andrew Mellon, John Hines from suspicion, as these individuals were his firm allies and members of the Tarot Society.
However, after thinking it over, Donnie decided not to do so. At this point, he couldn’t fully trust anyone.
Even though he didn’t completely trust them, these individuals would have to be investigated one by one, and Donnie quickly narrowed it down to two, John Garner and Karl Lorentz!
These two were Congress members and representatives of the Democratic Party.
As a Republican, Donnie controlled the country’s largest media group and the New Jersey vote!
Not a favorable situation for the Democratic Party.
Though, in such a political struggle, one wouldn’t expect them to choose such irrational actions, various evidence has pointed these individuals as the most likely to have leaked his itinerary.
"Investigate these two individuals. Additionally, I’ll communicate in advance with President Coolidge about the White House personnel responsible for this banquet."
Donnie handed the names of John Garner and Karl Lorentz to Rhode Granger.
"I know you don’t fully trust the current FBI people, so bring Van Olden over; he’s still trustworthy!"
Even though it had come to this, Donnie still had no intention of exposing other moles he had planted in the FBI, so he chose Van Olden, whom he trusted greatly, to handle this matter.
Back when Van Olden had finished handling Sly Monroe’s issue, he had been dispatched to Kentucky to oversee the state’s FBI operations.
Since everyone knew of Van Olden’s connection with him, Donnie had nothing to worry about when asking Rhode Granger to call him back to FBI headquarters.
