Chapter 83: Scene 34 The Golden Magic Tree_2
Miss Roman watched him, his head drenched in sweat, and hurriedly fished out a checkered handkerchief from her bag, handing it to him. She didn’t say anything, but her thoughts were clear—Brand saw the checkered handkerchief and vaguely remembered that it was a handmade item from the northern Vieiro Region, something rarely found in Buqi. It was also one of the merchant Miss’s most cherished collectibles.
"Thank you." He mouthed, one word at a time.
"I should be the one thanking you, Brand." Miss Roman hugged her bag with both hands and seriously replied, "It might get very dangerous soon, and there might be no chance to say certain things, right? So, I have to tell you—thank you, Brand."
Brand was taken aback, then smiled slightly.
In just a moment, six Magic Tree-men had already approached; even hiding behind the sharp rocks, the three of them could hear the rustling footsteps getting closer. The Magic Tree-men communicated using some low notes, and their exchanges with the mother tree were done purely through their minds.
Brand saw Frey draw her sword. She wrapped the blade with her clothes to avoid any reflections that might alert the enemies. Brand nodded, at least showing that Frey was no longer just an idealistic young girl from a few days ago. He immediately made a gesture, meaning: I’ll go first, you ambush.
Frey frowned slightly. The other party always took on the most dangerous tasks, which made her feel uneasy and a bit dissatisfied. But even so, she knew this was the most appropriate strategy and could only nod reluctantly.
The Magic Tree-men passed under a protruding stone jetty extending from the ground and then stopped, spreading out in all directions to search while producing a series of strange notes to communicate. Brand drew the Azure Light Piercing with one hand protecting Miss Roman, then signaled Frey to attack—
At this very moment, the Magic Tree-men should be behind them and dispersed, making it the best time to launch an attack.
Brand charged out first, his initial target being the adult Magic Tree-man. Then, Frey decisively drew her sword and rushed towards the rear of the Magic Tree-men squad, her targets being the two offspring of the Golden Magic Tree standing close together.
The Magic Tree-men at the back of the squad were usually responsible for vigilance, so they reacted the quickest. The moment two Magic Tree-men noticed Frey, they turned around and let out a low roar. Their bodies extended four vines that thrust forward like spears—the vines whistled through the air.
But Frey split them apart with both hands, the Wind Feather shining to protect her as she leapt forward, crashing headfirst into the first Magic Tree-man—the Wind Feather dimmed for a moment before lighting up again. But the tall beast was also unexpectedly thrown off balance and sent flying.
At this moment, the girl remembered Brand’s words: "Your Wind Queen Half Armor has a significant advantage over them. You should attack freely—"
Biting her lip, she threw caution to the wind, pouncing on the fallen Magic Tree-man to suppress it. The overwhelming force instantly threatened to fling her away—Frey knew her strength was limited and that she could be thrown off at any moment. She tightly gripped her longsword with both hands, raising it high and slashing down at the right arm of the Magic Tree-man.
With a soft hiss, the right arm with its writhing vines flew off into the air. But Frey was also flung away at the same time. Just as she got up, another Magic Tree-man whipped her, sending her rolling across the ground. Though the Wind Queen Half Armor protected her, the impact still made her cough up blood.
The Magic Tree-man lying on the ground couldn’t recover for a while, and Frey realized she had only one enemy left. She wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth but couldn’t find an opportunity to attack for the moment.
She couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
On the other side, Brand swiftly took down an unsuspecting enemy. The Azure Light Piercing in his hand danced like a silver thread: the first strike pierced under the right rib of the Magic Tree-man, then swung outward, reducing its right arm and several vines to ashes.
The second strike severed its two legs, and at the moment the creature lost its balance and fell, the cold blade of the Elf Sword had already swept across its neck.
Amid the crisscrossing light, the adult Magic Tree-man was reduced to ash.
