Chapter 107: 45 Scenes of the Night
Brand and his servant got off the Stone Statue Ghost and saw Romantic and the pale Frey in the alley. The latter especially was glaring at him with a hateful look. He found it amusing that the dignified Valkyrie was afraid of heights. Thinking of her panicked expression in the sky made her seem like the girls in their team years ago.
"Alright, let me explain the current situation." Brand, fearing Frey would hold a grudge, quickly spoke once they landed.
Frey saw through his ploy and snorted lightly. She turned her head away, unwilling to argue with him.
"We’ve delivered the message; whether to believe it is up to the nobles. Next, we need to find Romantic’s aunt and escape Ridenburg before Madara launches an attack, but that’s not an easy task." Brand waved his hand to let the Stone Statue Ghost fly up to the roof and enter stasis while monitoring the surroundings—he had been experimenting with the protective talisman’s spell since nightfall and finally found one usable.
However, the attack spell was still lacking.
"Frey and Romantic, you’re registered in the militia, so any relatives in Ridenburg will be on record. If we contact Romantic’s distant relative, we might risk being discovered, especially when unsure of their trustworthiness."
"Then Aunt Jenny would be in great danger?" Frey finally turned back to ask.
Brand glanced at Romantic, who was silent, fiddling with her clothes’ hem.
"Overall, they will have some reaction time, but if we act hastily, the chances of failure increase. To save time, we need to divide into three teams and repeatedly confirm each person’s task."
He took a deep breath, unconsciously adopting the demeanor of a squad leader from his gaming experience. However, controlling others’ destinies in reality made Brand inevitably tense.
His gaze lingered on the three faces for a while, then he assigned:
"Frey, you contact Romantic’s relative."
"Me?" Frey pointed to herself in surprise.
"Yes."
"But I only know he lives in Bonoan Market; I don’t even know the exact address. Also, I don’t know where Bonoan Market is!" The ponytailed girl looked troubled.
"You can ask around. Bonoan Market is nearby. There’s a bar called ’Red Copper Dragon Storytelling’ down the alley; you can inquire there." Brand suddenly smiled: "But be careful, the mercenaries in the bar aren’t the cleanest, don’t let them take advantage of you."
Frey’s face turned red instantly. She glared at him fiercely: "Shameless!"
Char chuckled quietly on the side, finding their Lord quite amusing. Nobles rarely visited such coarse places as bars, but Brand seemed very knowledgeable about the kingdom’s inner workings. Wizards always liked being around smart people—especially those knowledgeable, and this young man was no exception.
"After finding the wool merchant named Hude, don’t reveal your identity immediately; set up a meeting at the bar. Pay attention to his reaction to judge his reliability. If you notice army traces, don’t worry; they won’t easily alert us before knowing our connection. They also want an opportunity to capture us all."
Frey thought for a moment, seeming to confirm if she could manage all this, then nodded.
"What about me, Brand?" Romantic blinked and asked.
"Romantic, you help us arrange a carriage and wait for us at the North Gate. Ridenburg only has two inns, which might be monitored. If you find one suspicious, switch to the other. If both are problematic, go alone to the North Gate. No matter what, we’ll leave the city at dawn when the gate opens. If lucky, we might escape before the blockade order is issued."
Miss Merchant nodded briskly.
Then Brand took out the money he obtained from the noble’s relic, split it into two, and gave each half to Frey and Romantic: "Your actions may require money. Here are thirty silver coins, plenty for both of you. Romantic, try to buy some food if possible."
Miss Merchant nodded seriously again.
"What about you, Brand?" Frey asked.
"You acting alone is too risky; the White Mane Legion might intervene anytime. Char and I will visit some ’old friends’ to draw the guards’ attention in Ridenburg." Brand replied calmly.
