Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen -
Chapter 801: Withdrawal
Chapter 801: Withdrawal
Yarin's POV:
The name Adele was both strange and familiar. I had never heard of her since Mom imprisoned her in the palace. I never thought that I would encounter her residence today.
Compared to the luxurious palace, the tower-like villa before me was filled with an incongruous sense of desolation. It could be seen that the servants took care of the place carefully, so the vines on the wall tiles were not messy, and there were not many weeds between the cracks of the stone slabs on the ground. However, its clean appearance could not hide its lifelessness from the inside.
"Let's go. Don't stay here for too long." Cynthia pulled me away. "We shouldn't have barged in here. The residents here need peace and quiet."
Her force pulled me away, and I looked back at the foggy window in the tower.
There was nothing there. No one was alone. Only the shadow of the curtain could be seen.
For some reason, I suddenly asked, "Has the Southern Duke been here in the past few years?" Everyone looked at me in surprise, as if I was making a childish joke.
Only Heller understood what I was asking. He looked at those gloomy windows and replied, "He comes every year, but Adele doesn't want to see him."
For some reason, I heaved a sigh of relief when I heard this answer.
She was unwilling to see him. Perhaps this was the last dignity of this crazy woman.
In the evening, we sat in the garden and chatted. The little fairies were tired and fell asleep peacefully in my hands. Bertha had prepared a basket covered with cotton and silk handkerchief. I carefully put the fairies in it, and they rolled over on the soft bed.
"It's good to have a holiday. You can do whatever you want." Eden sighed. "No more sparring classes. This is the best."
You don't sound like a werewolf," said Autumn. "Don't you want to be a warrior?"
"Of course I do, but at the same time, I know my limits. I have no talent in martial arts, nor can I endure hardship or have a firm belief. So, it's fine to dream about it when I'm young. If I really want to be a soldier, which military camp will be willing to accept me?"
He said it so casually, but I could always hear a sense of helplessness in his words. His painful childhood had almost wiped out all his dreams and talents. When he was forced by his father to do those evil rituals, the only comfort a young child could have was his dreams and fantasies about the future.
Eden's father was dead. In the second year of my coma, this half-mad man ended his life with a tattered scarf.
I heard that his late wife personally knitted the scarf. What was this? A late apology? Unfortunately, death was like a lamp going out. No matter how 'affectionate' they were, they could only be reduced to a secret scandal among the nobles.
Eden didn't react much to his father's death. He could even talk about it without any reservation, sadness, or resentment.
"To me, after I left that family, my parents were already dead. I only have Grandpa and Aunt. It doesn't matter what happens to the others. I can't care, and I would rather not care. I hope they can rest in eternal peace under the glory of god."
It might sound a little unreasonable to say this, but if you knew Eden's story, you would be grateful for his indifference.
How lucky was a person to pull away from the pain of the past?
We chatted casually for a while, and as we talked, the topic turned to the fugitives who escaped four years ago.
"Many people were originally just imprisoned. Now, they don't even have to be exiled. They're directly sentenced to death. Thieves became murderers, molesters became rapists and murderers, and arsonists; robbed banks, jewelry stores, and pawn shops. It was really chaotic. Police stations and hospitals were full. In contrast, no one was on the streets except for the police and ambulances."
Autumn still had a lingering fear when she mentioned this.
"Even Sivir Academy was attacked. Those fugitives even got explosives from somewhere and blew up the school gates! Although it was a false alarm, some students dropped out of school afterward. This incident probably traumatized them.
"In short, if there were anyone who was the happiest in that chaos, it would probably be the media. I didn't mean they were making money from the disaster, but they were crazy about this incident.
"A lot of reporters aren't concerned about the lockdown and curfew. Wherever there's chaos, they'll go and cause trouble. God, they should join the search team. I think their noses are as sharp as dogs. They even know where the fugitives have committed crimes!
"There was once when a few reporters even barged into Sivir Academy and harassed the students in various ways. It was as if they wanted to hear stories of life and death from them. "The school leaders will protect the students, but guess what? The next day, the newspaper headline was, 'Royal College's higher-ups are suspected of protecting the attacker's whereabouts. Students look terrified'. Goddess, what kind of ability is this to turn right and wrong upside down? Why would they be journalists? They would definitely become more famous writing novels!"
