Chapter 749: Relationship Conflict
Yarin's POV:
The school had a rule that male students had to wear accessories along with their uniforms, and that included cufflinks.
The school provided cufflinks with the school emblem to the students, but these small items were hard to find once lost. To prevent any mishaps, I kept a spare set in my locker.
This discreet pair of silver-plated cufflinks was one of my birthday gifts from a certain year. They had a smooth and polished surface, slightly concave in the middle, resembling the kind of setting reserved for gemstones. This design turned out to be quite convenient for me.
At noon, Eden came to find me as planned.
I handed him the cufflinks and said, "Here you go, bro. I promise these will be useful. That Tooth Puncher guy will definitely be rolling on the ground after you're done with him."
Eden took them and silently put them on.
I could tell he was lacking a bit of confidence, which was normal. Even I found my own words a bit dry when I tried to encourage him.
"Anyway, trust me, okay? I never deceive my friends," I said earnestly. "I'll be watching from the crowd. If that Tooth Puncher does anything out of line, don't worry, I'll step in to stop him."
But Eden stopped me, saying, "No, please don't do anything, Your Highness. If you get involved, things will escalate."
"I understand, so I won't blatantly do anything," I said with a sly smile, not revealing my actual plan.
The playground was already filled with students who had heard about the situation. Even students from the high school and elementary school sections had come to watch. The cement steps were packed with people. At the moment, it was more crowded here than in the cafeteria.
"Enjoying a spectacle is in everyone's nature," Heller sighed. "I have no idea how the teachers are going to handle this when they arrive."
"Do the teachers know about this?" I was a bit puzzled. Clearly, this incident had caused a stir, but it seemed like the teachers hadn't heard a thing. No one was attempting to intervene.
"They definitely know. The teachers aren't deaf. Every student is discussing this. It's almost like they're broadcasting it to the whole school!" Heller said, a bit disdainfully. "They just don't want to get involved, so they're pretending not to hear or know anything."
"What about the other teachers? Doesn't Ms. Maggie care either?"
"The principal is away on an exchange program at another school. Otherwise, why would Tooth Puncher choose today of all days to challenge Eden?"
We didn't have to wait long. Soon, a tall and muscular boy appeared with a group of followers. Standing in the center of the playground, he shouted, "Hey, where's that scrawny chicken named Eden? Did he chicken out? If you're a man, come out and duel me already, Eden. I promise I'll hold back a little, so my fist doesn't get stuck in your skull!"
After he finished speaking, he and his cronies burst into laughter.
It seemed he was Tooth Puncher, Kris.
This guy was really strong. He looked at least a head taller than the students around him. If not for his still-boyish face, he really wouldn't look like a middle school student.
Before long, the crowd split open like the Red Sea, making way for Eden, who walked out alone from one side.
"I'm here, Kris," he said. "What do you want?"
Kris sneered and threatened, "What do I want? I want to beat you up thoroughly and make you realize your place, kid. Do you really think you can touch any girl you want? Step up and fight me, Eden, if you're a real man. I can go easy on you, so my fist doesn't get stuck in your skull!" He said this in an offensive tone. Before Eden could respond, an impatient and sharp female voice cut in, "What the heck are you doing, Kris? You jerk, don't embarrass yourself here! Get lost, you disgraceful fool! Who gave you the right to act like you own this school? Who do you think has to tolerate your bullying? Get lost, you son of a b*tch! And as for a duel, are you even worthy? You're insulting this sacred tradition. And I'm not some trophy you can win!"
This fiery lady clearly brought the absurd drama to its climax. The crowd's discussions suddenly grew louder. Their gazes shifted between Autumn, Eden, and Kris, speculating or asserting the dynamics of their triangle.
Kris's attempt to create a spectacle by publicly challenging Eden was clearly falling flat. Even before the fight started, Autumn had given him a tongue-lashing. This visibly shattered his confidence.
The bullying thug turned red instantly, glared fiercely at Autumn, and said, "No need for your nosy interference, girl. Get out of here. I don't want to fight a girl!"
Then, he roared and immediately swung his fist at Eden.
