Chapter 702: The Temple Priestess
Yarin's POV:
What a mess! I rolled my eyes, knowing nothing good could come out of a dog's mouth. "Well, let's not talk about this. Don't you want to know what happened in Silver Moon Pack and why Heller and I became like this? Let me fill you in - but don't keep interrupting with inane things, will you? I beg you, don't bring the opera into real life."
Cynthia rolled her eyes at me and mumbled, "You don't know the fun of messing with me at all, little old-fashioned and little fool..."
However, she immediately entered a listening state and listened carefully to everything that had happened during this period.
Cynthia was shocked when I talked from dusk to midnight.
"So I missed out on a lot," she said absentmindedly. "Heller's eyes will gradually recover. The conflict between Lily and Aunt Teresa deepened. And you, you have become Azazel's vessel. Uh-huh, very bad."
She couldn't understand why I could say such a thing so calmly. "Vessel? Goddess, sometimes I don't know why you can always maintain this 'it's nothing, it's just a small matter' state. That's a demon; once you get entangled with him, it means endless trouble. All right, at least now I understand why Mother suddenly wants to go to the temple tomorrow. She wants to ask the goddess for help."
"But the goddess hasn't shown herself for hundreds of years." I was a little nervous. "Even when the war between the wolves and witches was so intense, she never gave any guidance to the werewolves. I... I don't know if she's willing to help me."
"Don't worry about that. That's the Moon Goddess, isn't it? Of course, the guardian of the werewolves would protect her people, just like how Azazel was expelled ten years ago. The goddess would not watch the heir of the werewolves become a puppet of the demons. Don't let your imagination run wild. You'll be safe and sound when you walk out of the temple tomorrow."
The next day.
The temple was a place I needed to familiarize myself with. Besides the annual sacrifice, I rarely visited this gorgeous ancient building.
The temple was usually very low-key. Everyone seemed invisible in the Lycan Pack, from the priests to the nuns. The temple was typically closed to the public, which made many ordinary people often forget that there was such a place.
The last time a grand event was held here was the year my mom ascended the throne. After that, this place basically stopped existing in people's memories.
The Luna Priestess did not have a name. The moment she became a priest, she would have to abandon all worldly concerns and focus on serving the goddess. Therefore, there was no need for a name. When people mentioned her, they would call her 'the Priestess' and 'the Venerable One'.
The current priest was already ninety-nine years old. She had been in this position since my grandfather was in power. She was low-key and had no merits or faults.
It was very quiet in the temple. The nuns walked silently against the wall. Other than them, only the Priestess was praying silently in the empty hall. When she saw us, she got up from the cushion and bowed.
"Your Majesty has arrived. Sorry for not welcoming you."
"Please be at ease." My mom immediately helped her up when she was half-bent. "You are a person who serves the goddess. You don't need to bow to anyone other than the goddess."
But the Priestess said, "You are the one who is in charge of the goddess' subjects. I should respect you as I respect the goddess."
"You always abide by etiquette. I think this is why you can run the temple so upright and dignified." My mom helped the priestess to sit down and called me over to greet her.
"Good afternoon, Venerable One. Thank you for your contribution to the goddess. I hope that everything is well for you."
"Of course, Your Highness. The Goddess blesses every one of her devout servants."
The priestess gently tapped my forehead. This represented the goddess' blessing to her subjects.
Then she turned to her mother and asked, "There has been no oracle descending recently. Why have you come to see me today?"
"I came to see you today as a mother. My child, my poor Yarin, had been invaded by a demon and lives under the shadow of evil. As his mother, my heart feels like a knife is twisting in it, and I cannot sleep at night.
"After much thought, only the glory of the Goddess can dispel evil. Therefore, I'm here to ask you to pray to the Goddess for a way to expel the demon and save the life of an innocent child. Only then can my uneasy heart be calmed."
After hearing my mother's request, the priestess looked at me, eyes as calm as an ancient well, deep and distant like the night sky.
"Oh, I do see it. This poor child, the demon left a disgusting brand on his soul. His despicable thoughts are obvious," she muttered. "No one will turn a blind eye to it. Of course, I should help you ask the Goddess for help. This is my duty."
But then she changed her tone and said, "But I must tell you in advance that the Goddess may be merciful, but I'm not sure if she will respond to me."
