Chapter 77: Chapter 77- At The Door

DAMON~

I took in a deep breath in an attempt to prepare myself for what I was about to face.

"You can do this." I hyped myself as I opened the door and walked out, My car was parked at the other side of the street that faced her house so I had to cross the residential road before I got to her house. As I set foot on her pavement I felt a cold shiver shoot through my body but I kept advancing, I climbed the three small steps that made a small staircase before the balcony and stood in front of the slim wooden door.

The last time I was here I had Kendra break us in but looking back now I knew how stupid that action was, why the fuck did I break into her house, and honestly, what did I expect. This time was gonna be different though, I pressed the doorbell and shifted from the peephole cause I honestly doubted she’d even entertain the idea of opening the door if she saw me standing at the other side.

I could hear no footsteps coming to answer the door after a few seconds had passed so I decided to press it again but still no one came to the door, I looked at my watch to confirm the time. It was 5 o clock, she would have left work by now and even though she hadn’t at the very least Elliott should have been home, I was about to press the button again when I heard a click, and the door was drawn open, my body jolted with electricity, surprised I took a step back. How did I not hear her coming, have my senses dulled to such extremes? I asked myself but now was no time to sulk. I turned my head to her and was surprised.

"Who are you?" A girl who looked be to in her early teens asked, Who was this?

"Urrrrr, Damon," I answered and immediately I said those words I heard Elliott’s tiny footsteps running towards me, excitedly shouting.

"Damon!" as he got to the door though the girl blocked his exit and held him close.

"Miss Dina never mentioned a Damon." She said, She was cautious and I couldn’t blame her, a strange man had just appeared at her doorstep.

"Yeah, I didn’t expect her to." I nervously chuckled, She shifted back cautiously, holding onto Elliott tighter as she fixed her eyes on me.

"What’s your name?" I said as I took a step back to comfort her and ease her of her worry.

"Nancy." She answered hesitantly, I smiled warmly, trying to be as charming as I possibly could.

"You can relax Nancy, I’m not bad news," I said.

"Nancy I wanna play with Damon," Elliott whined as he began squirming, I inaudibly chuckled as I knelt to his level.

"Hey, little man," I said as I scattered his blonde hair, it was almost shocking how much we looked alike.

"Hey, Damon." He replied but as he wanted to walk closer to me Nancy lifted him and held him in her arms.

I stood up and looked at her "I’m not a kidnapper or anything." I said.

"I know, I can see the resemblance between both of you which means you’re probably his dad," Nancy replied, my eyes widened, she had already connected our resemblance and given herself a reason for it, one that was correct at that.

"You are correct." I said with a smile as I tried to step closer but the look in her eyes made me stop "If you know I’m his father why won’t you let me come in."

"My Dad!" Elliott said with his big green eyes full of excitement, She put him down then lowered herself to his level "Go play with your toys I need to talk to Mr Damon alone." She said, he was hesitant but he listened and went back into the house, she was raising him right, I thought with a glad smile plastered across my lips. She smiled then stood up and turned back to face me.

"Well because you’re his father is the exact reason I can’t let you in." She replied, intrigued by the way she thought I folded my hands and asked.

"And why would that be?"

"The fact that she has never mentioned you, not even once means that you’re a part of her life she doesn’t like to remember. And since you haven’t been in Elliott’s life all this while I can only guess that you’re a bad memory she wants to forget, so sorry sir I can’t let you in." She answered as she stepped back and was about to shut the door but I stopped her.

"Wait!" She paused, I sighed and tossed aside the smile that had been on my face.

"Do you think I’m a bad person?"

"What I think doesn’t matter." She responded and continued trying to shut the door but yet again I stopped her.

"It does, by our very brief interaction I can tell you’re a very smart girl and a good judge of character, so look at me and tell me, Do you think I’m a bad person?" I said, her jaw tightened as she thought about it then turned back to me.

"It doesn’t show on a person’s face sir."

"It shows on mine, I don’t wanna take him or anything, I just wanna talk to Za—Dina when she gets back." I pleaded, she looked touched by my words but it didn’t last long as she said.

"I’m sorry sir but you can wait outside." She said and immediately stepped inside and shut the door before I could say anything else.

I let out a sigh of exhaustion but there was nothing I could do but wait for her to return, I walked to the staircase and sat on the first one, following her instructions I would wait for Zarah to return, It might take a while but sooner or later she would come back home and as I was about to rest my head and close my eyes a car pulled into the driveway and she gracefully stepped out but she wasn’t alone as someone else stepped out of the passenger seat.
