Chapter 121- My Mate Again

Chapter 121: Chapter 121- My Mate Again

Damon’s pov

Three Weeks Later.

I never imagined that I would be given another chance. Not with her not with Elliot and not with the life I had left behind.

Laughing as my son chases a butterfly through the grass while I stand in Zarah’s backyard.

My son

Although the words were still fresh they became etched in my chest as if they had always been there.

I looked at Zarah who was standing next to me with her arms folded watching Elliot calmly and thoughtfully.

I inhaled deeply before grabbing her hand.

She tensed a little but she didn’t back off.. "Will you walk with me?". I said after a moment of hesitation she nodded.

The cool evening breeze surrounded us as we walked along the path that led out of the house. In the distance, fireflies glowed softly and briefly. We were silent for a while.

Zarah sighed after that.

"You are different."

Surprised, I turned to her.

" Is that a positive thing?"

Her eyes were unreadable but she nodded.

"Yes, it is. However, it also prompts me to ask What changed?"

Everything. losing her, losing Elliot.

When all I did was hurt people I thought I was acting morally. I released my breath gradually

"I told myself that I was protecting you when I left. It would be better for you if I didn’t exist."

I raked my hand through my hair as annoyance began to set in.

"However I must admit that I was afraid, afraid of disappointing you. I was afraid I’d be like my father." I was afraid of failing my son before I even had a chance to be his father. "

Zarahs face softened but she remained silent and waited. . . I stared up at the night sky trying to think of something to say.

However, I realized that I had already failed by keeping my distance when I nearly lost you both saw Elliot in danger and saw you in pain. That was the actual error. . . She gripped me tightly.

With my voice raw I turned to her.

"I love you. Without you, I don’t know how to go another day."

Her eyes sparkled with something unsaid she took a sharp breath. She then muttered." I don’t want that either."

I took Elliot out for the day two weeks later. Zarah was initially apprehensive because this was the first time I had taken him somewhere by himself but she finally consented.

Finally, we found ourselves eating ice cream by the lake while perched on the hood of my car.

Swinging his legs Elliot licked at his cone while humming to himself. With my heart pounding I watched him.

"Hi buddy," I said.

He glanced up.

"Yes? "

I paused.

"If I stayed, how would you feel? Like forever?"

In an instant, his face brightened.

"You live with us like, forever and ever?"

"Yes," I said quietly.

And he smiled.

"That would be awesome."

Then he became serious.

"But is that a sign that you and Mommy are getting married?"

I almost choked to death on my ice cream.

Waiting for a response, Elliot simply cocked his head.

I chuckled and shook my head.

"Tell me one step at a time please."

He gave a small shrug.

"Alright. But you should in my opinion. My mom still loves you."

I felt my chest tightened.

"You think so?"

With confidence, he nodded.

"Yes. When she thought I’m not paying attention she constantly brings up you."

My smile came. An intelligent child.

- As Zarah put Elliot to bed that evening I stood in her room as she made her bed

.

It was right and warm in the house. As though I was supposed to be here.

Although Zarah appeared worn out when she eventually finished there was a softness in her face that hadn’t been there before.

Turning to her I put down the book I was holding.

" He wouldn’t stop talking about today." She said before I could respond.

I grinned.

"I hope it’s good?"

She rolled her eyes.

"He’s already planning the wedding."

I laughed. Yes, that is what he kind of brought up.

Her face flushed and I noticed that she bit her lip which was a habit she had when she was anxious.

My heart was pounding as I stepped forward. "Zarah," I muttered quietly.

She raised her eyes in anticipation.

I made a move to grasp her hand.

" I meant what I said earlier. I will not leave you ever again."

She swallowed forcefully

"I know, Damon."

I paused. That’s what you want?

For a long time, she remained silent.

Then she said so softly I nearly missed it: "Yes."

A wave of relief came over me. I searched her eyes as I slowly raised her chin.

" Let me prove it to you then."

Nodding she smiled.

And it felt like I had found true happiness when I kissed her.

After One Year

I was about to claim her as my mate again.

There was a lot of music, laughter, and glass clinking in the backyard

Pack members, friends, and family had all gathered for this occasion.

My heart was racing as I watched Zarah approach me from the front.

She was really beautiful.m, breathtaking. The woman who had captured my heart and held onto it forever.

Carrying a small pillow with the rings, Elliot ran ahead of her.

"Mom hurry up!"

he yelled. Zarah rolled her eyes in amusement as the audience laughed.

I took her hands in mine when she finally got to me smiling, feeling whole and happy again..

I could hardly hear the words as the officiant started talking. She was all I could see, forever was all I could think about. **. Upon hearing her say I do my heart finally felt at peace. .

Something struck me that night as I cradled Zarah in my arms and heard Elliot snore softly down the hallway.

I’d been telling myself for years that I wasn’t worthy of this.

But I was mistaken. This was always supposed to be mine—Elliot, Zarah our life together.

I would never let it go this time.

The End...
