Chapter 87: Aurora is frustrated

The harsh words from the crowd stung Aurora, a pang of hurt gnawing at her heart. She was well aware that the hostility directed at her came from her role as the false girlfriend of a man they all lusted after.

Choosing to block out their murmurs, she pressed forward through the array of people. However, it became evident that some among the crowd were intent on humiliating her.

"Why the false tears after snatching someone else’s man?" Three women approached Aurora, their gazes laced with disdain.

"Seems she’s suddenly lost her voice after Damien turned her down," they taunted, their laughter laced with cruelty.

Anxiety swelled within Aurora, she bit her lips in shame. She found herself cornered by their mockery and didn’t know how to respond.

"Excuse me," she stammered, trying to navigate through the trio, but they shoved her forcefully, sending her crashing to the ground.

The event was officially so, people were engaged in cheerful conversations and soon noticed the ongoing scene.

"Look at her! Utterly wretched. How did Damien end up with such a pathetic woman?" The trio continued their insults, finding amusement in her humiliation. Those who already held a dislike for Aurora wore satisfied smiles, relishing in her humiliation.

"Did you see her outfit? She resembles a granny from another era," the abrupt fall had exposed more of her cleavage. Attempting to cover herself, her trembling hands fumbled, and she couldn’t cover them. Unable to withstand the gaze of the onlookers, she lowered her head in shame, feeling utterly diminished.

"Should we intervene and stop this?" A compassionate woman turned to her husband, seeking his opinion.

"I have never been fond of Damien. Watching his companion face humiliation is quite satisfying," the man retorted with a smug grin that irritated his wife. She lamented her fate to have married such a heartless man, willing to take revenge on the innocent due to personal grievances.

Despite her sympathy, she lacked the courage to intervene, and her husband who was capable of rebuking those women didn’t want to intervene. All she could do was offer silent prayers for Aurora’s well-being.

"Should we make her look more sexy?" One of the three women suggested, malicious intent brewing.

"I am all for it. Let’s see if she can charm other men with a new look," they agreed, their intentions evil.

With sinister thoughts in mind, the instigator noticed a bottle of water on a nearby table. Retrieving it, she advanced toward Aurora.

"Sweetie, why not show us a sexy smile?" She taunted, a wicked smile on her lips as she began to pour the water onto Aurora deliberately.

Aurora let out a startled cry, taken aback by the extent of the bullying. If strangers could treat her like this, what would Sarah and her mother, the real haters, have in store for her if she didn’t escape Damien’s clutches?

"Please," Aurora whimpered, her voice barely audible as fear gripped her, rendering her incapable of even raising a finger. Her resolve to avenge her parents’ death seemed to falter in the face of such relentless torment.

"Do you possess a death wish?!!!!!" Damien’s voice thundered, its intensity resonating throughout the hall. Instantly, silence covered the scene, drawing the attention of those who had previously been disinterested.

"She’s gone too far!" A voice of distress rose from the crowd, a bystander empathizing with the woman who had poured water on Aurora.

Reacting promptly, the woman with the water bottle swiftly withdrew her hand and discarded the bottle, her expression transforming into a wide smile aimed at Damien.

Gradually, Damien approached Aurora, lowering himself to her level. She was so embarrassed that she couldn’t muster the courage to meet his gaze, which in turn evoked a sense of remorse within him. How could he not feel protective of this fragile being, fearing he might break her?

Gently, he draped his suit jacket around her, ensuring her dignity was restored. Assisting her to her feet, he drew her into a possessive embrace.

"Who among you is responsible for this?" His voice, stern and serious, created fear in the minds of the instigators.

The other two women hastened to point accusatory fingers at the woman who had bullied Aurora.

"We all participated, why are you pinning it on me?" She retorted, struggling to fathom that her friends had turned against her. They had mistakenly assumed Damien and Aurora had broken up, prompting their ill-advised bullying. If only they had left Aurora alone.

"You did this?" Damien directed his attention to the accused woman, who was now trembling. He released his hold on Aurora, attempting to approach the woman but was held back by Aurora’s tight grip on his wrist. Still averting her gaze, she pleaded, "Please let’s leave here."

Hesitating, Damien clenched his fist, his anger still obvious.

"I just want to leave," Aurora repeated, her gaze still averted. Her primary desire was to escape the hall, she couldn’t bear standing there looking all tattered. Understanding her worry, Damien embraced her once more and led her away.

Through their mindlink, Damien conveyed to Enoch, ’Prepare the car, we are leaving now.’

Sensing the gravity of the situation, Enoch wondered what had transpired. ’Let me guess, you got tired?’ A response didn’t come, surprising him. What had occurred that silenced Damien?

Once outside the hall, the waiting car came into view. Damien assisted Aurora into the vehicle before taking his seat beside her. With a swift departure, they left the scene behind.

Observing them through the rearview mirror, Enoch let out a sigh as he figured the root of the problem. It was now confirmed that Aurora had the keys to Damien’s sealed emotions.

"Gather information on those who harassed Aurora tonight," Damien instructed, prompting a worried glance from Aurora. While his anger had seemingly reduced, she recognized his intention to punish the perpetrators.

"What action should I take against them?" Enoch inquired, ready to carry out the task.

"Ruin their businesses or companies," Damien replied, causing Aurora’s eyes to widen in alarm.

"No, please don’t. I am fine, I don’t want any trouble," she pleaded, fearing the consequences that awaited those women if their livelihoods were jeopardized on her account.

"Well, I do," Damien’s response left no room for negotiation.

Realizing the difficulty of swaying his decision, Aurora devised an alternative strategy. "They bullied me because of you, everything started with you. If you would consider my feelings before doing something, none of these would have happened."
