Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 78: Speaking of the devil Dave
Chapter 78: Speaking of the devil Dave
Observing Sarah’s bothered expression, Charlotte inquired, "Is something bothering you?" Sarah didn’t want to withhold anything from Charlotte, but she feared the consequences of trusting a friend, just as her mother had warned her about.
After a moment of contemplation, Sarah made a decision and smiled, responding, "I am feeling anxious about my upcoming wedding, everything is happening so quickly." Concerned, Charlotte pouted and held Sarah’s hands.
"You are about to become a Luna, a position next to the Alpha himself. You should be proud of yourself and not let anything weigh you down," Charlotte encouraged Sarah, her eyes sincere, though uncertain if her words were the right ones. She had a nagging feeling that being a Luna should not be a source of pride.
Charlotte considered her own circumstances with Dave, if their relationship had worked out, she might also have been in a favorable position, as Dave’s power was almost on par with an Alpha’s, although Damien still held the Alpha’s dominance.
On the other hand, Ronald held the rank of a beta, and while he was merely the Alpha’s cousin in their pack, he was still well-respected.
"Do you think so?" Sarah asked with a sad look, lacking confidence in herself.
"Of course, I’m Alpha’s sister, and I take pride in that. Moreover, it would have been better if you had married my brother. Then I could help you anytime and any day," Charlotte reassured, whispering the last sentence to prevent eavesdropping walls.
Sarah giggled and playfully smacked Charlotte’s arm, causing Charlotte to join in the laughter.
"In my next life, I will definitely be your brother’s mate," Sarah playfully replied, winking at Charlotte.
Changing the subject, Charlotte inquired with a serious expression, "How is your wedding dress coming along?"
"You know my mother, she probably has everything covered. All I have to do is prepare for the wedding," Sarah said with a hint of boredom, rolling her eyes at how her mother controlled everything.
Although she enjoyed being pampered by her mother, she feared losing her ability to make decisions if her mother continued to handle everything.
Sarah knew that after the wedding, her parents would leave, and she would be left alone in the mansion to deal with her problems. She couldn’t help but worry about how she would handle difficult situations on her own.
"I understand that your mother wants what’s best for you, but don’t you have any desires to take charge of your own life?" Charlotte often couldn’t comprehend the excessive control Laura had over Sarah. Perhaps it stemmed from her mother’s death when she was ten, leaving her unfamiliar with having a controlling mother.
Nevertheless, she had friends whose mothers didn’t make every decision for them.
"Well, it is what it is. Actually, she was the one who made me attend the date arranged by the Alpha late. She believes that men love women that make them wait, making them feel in control to be pursuing us." Sarah whispered this to Charlotte, leaving her surprised.
"Really?!" Charlotte exclaimed, but Sarah gestured for her to lower her voice.
"Why would you do that? What if he left in anger? Or called off the marriage?" Worriedly, Charlotte pestered Sarah with questions that made her reconsider her actions.
Charlotte’s questions sounded new to Sarah, as she hadn’t thought of them that way. Reflecting on their date, she realized how bossy she sounded, insisting on marriage despite his lack of love for her.
"I don’t know anymore, but I want him, Charlotte," Sarah confessed with a lost look, desperate for Damien’s affection.
"You said he loves you, so don’t worry about it. A man in love is like a blind man. Ronald is a perfect example, I miss him." Charlotte started thinking about her boyfriend, still feeling guilty about the almost unfortunate incident on the tree. Thankfully, Ronald always called her, and she managed to avoid Dave.
"Speaking of Ronald, have you settled on a new date for your wedding?" Sarah genuinely asked, recalling that they couldn’t proceed with the wedding due to the sudden accident that required the groom’s attention.
"I feel like it would be foolish to ask him when he’s still trying to help his brother out." Charlotte nervously scratched her neck and played with her fingers.
She desperately wanted to ask Ronald if he had already set a new date, but her conscience prevented her from bringing it up. If only the accident had occurred in the same country, it would have been easier to talk to him in person.
"What do you mean by foolish? They should be grateful you didn’t insist on having the wedding on the original date." Sarah hissed at the thought of Charlotte’s failed marriage.
If things hadn’t gone awry, Charlotte would have been in her wedding gown the day before. Now, shouldn’t they give her another date to assure her that they were still interested in the marriage?
"It’s not as simple as you think, and I told you his family still hasn’t fully accepted me. I don’t want to do anything that would upset them," Charlotte pointed out her greatest fear, which was Ronald’s family. They were the ones who almost ruined her relationship with Ronald because they wanted him to marry someone else.
Her brothers had already made their decision not to let her marry Ronald, but after a series of pleas and nagging, they eventually gave in.
With the whole issue at hand, if Charlotte were to make even a slight mistake, her brothers wouldn’t need to call off the marriage this time around. Ronald’s family would be the ones making that decision.
Sighing, Sarah drew closer to Charlotte and hugged her, saying, "We are both facing our problems with strength. We deserve medals for being the strongest women on earth," to which Charlotte nodded in agreement.
"I have something to confess," Charlotte said with a guilty tone.
"What is it?" Wondering what Charlotte was about to reveal, Sarah released her from the hug and looked directly at her.
"I almost allowed Dave to kiss me, and I feel terrible for betraying Ronald," Charlotte confessed, covering her face in embarrassment. She had been feeling guilty and didn’t know whom to confide in, eventually turning to her only friend in the mansion, Sarah.
"What?!" Sarah screamed, widening her eyes in shock.
"I know," Charlotte agonized, realizing how foolish it was for her to even consider kissing Dave.
"How could you think of kissing him? Don’t you remember what he did to you five years ago? He’s a playboy, don’t let him seduce you," Sarah scolded her for her actions and became furious, not believing what Charlotte had done.
"I...I do remember. It was a momentary action, I didn’t see it coming. It was just sudden and..." Charlotte tried to explain but stuttered and stammered, struggling to find the right words.
"Hey, it’s okay, I understand. I know how hard it is to let go of your feelings for someone, especially someone you once loved deeply," Sarah sympathized with her, understanding the difficulty of forgetting one’s first love.
Though Damien wasn’t her first love, she had desired to be his mate the first time she saw him at a gathering. Fortunately, her mother secured the spot for her when the elders sought out potential mates.
"I haven’t told Ronald yet, what should I do?" Charlotte asked, feeling lost.
She considered telling Ronald and dealing with the consequences later, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She felt guilty, but at the same time, she felt excited. She was no longer in love with Dave, she shouldn’t have allowed her inner desire to control her.
"You don’t have to tell him, just make sure this mistake doesn’t repeat itself, okay?" Sarah warned.
"I won’t," Charlotte agreed, nodding repeatedly as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Don’t cry," Sarah comforted her and wiped away her tears. Sarah was happy at the fact that Charlotte could confide in her regardless of the situation, only if she could also do the same.
Sometimes she wanted to tell Charlotte not to trust her and that she wasn’t a good friend to her, but she feared losing a great friend.
Just then, a light knock was heard on the door, alerting them both.
"Come in," Sarah responded.
’Speaking of the devil,’ Sarah thought, glaring at Dave as he entered the room. It seemed like he always appeared when he wasn’t needed around.
"I hope I am not interrupting a ladies’ discussion?" Dave asked with his usual seductive tone, facing Sarah.
Looking at Charlotte wiping her face, he grew worried, thinking something bad must have happened to her.
"What do you need?" Sarah asked, not bothering to return his flirtatious energy.
"You have some guests," Dave replied, his tone now back to normal, as Charlotte’s mood had already made him feel sour.
"A maid could have informed me, why you?" Sarah suspiciously asked.
"Well, they asked for me to relay the message," Dave answered, trying to sound nonchalant.
