Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 35: Will power
Chapter 35: Will power
The following morning
Sitting beside Aurora’s bed, Scarlet anxiously watched over her while the pack doctor attended to her.
Concerned, Scarlet asked, "Is she showing any signs?" Yesterday, Enoch assured her that Aurora was recovering, so why did she appear so weak now?
"Her condition is puzzling. It’s as if she’s struggling to come back and also holding on to something. Her body is weak," the pack doctor apologized, unable to comprehend what was happening to Aurora. She had shown stable signs yesterday, but now her condition was deteriorating.
"What does that mean?" Scarlet asked, her eyes filling with anger as she sat up straight. Enoch had assured her that Aurora was improving, so what was the pack doctor yarning about?
"It’s quite unusual. There’s no further medical treatment we can provide. It seems we have to rely on her willpower, on whatever she’s holding onto," the pack doctor explained, offering the most reasonable explanation for Aurora’s state.
Scarlet gazed at the pale Aurora and wondered, ’Are you with your parents?’ She was aware of Aurora’s painful past involving her deceased parents and hoped that Aurora wasn’t trying to reunite with them in the afterlife. Perhaps it would be best if Aurora left this cruel world, as she hadn’t experienced true happiness since her parents’ death.
Scarlet felt a sense of helplessness, knowing that she couldn’t do much to alleviate Aurora’s sorrow. Aurora needed someone like her parents, someone who could bring her joy as they once did. However, such a person was far-fetched, as Scarlet had her own problems to deal with and could only provide occasional comfort to Aurora.
"Do you think she will fight her way back?" Scarlet absentmindedly asked, tightening her grip on Aurora’s hand.
That foolish Alpha hadn’t even bothered to check on her after putting her life in danger. Scarlet knew from the moment Aurora signed that wretched contract that she was in jeopardy.
"It’s possible, depending on the strength of her connection to whatever she’s holding onto. We have exhausted all medical options, now it’s up to her determination," the pack doctor replied, beginning to pack up his belongings to leave. There was nothing more he could do, and he didn’t wish to face the Alpha’s demands for answers he couldn’t provide.
Scarlet nodded and watched him depart before drawing the curtains in the room, allowing sunlight to filter in. Taking in her surroundings, she realized the room appeared empty and hastily arranged. The maids hadn’t been given sufficient time to set everything up properly.
Rolling up her sleeve, Scarlet started rearranging things in the room. She noticed a new set of clothes and accessories in the closet, presumably provided by the Alpha. At least he had a sense of responsibility, she thought.
After an hour of setting things up, Scarlet sat down to catch her breath from the exertion. The sound of the doorknob turning alerted her to the Alpha’s entrance. ’He finally remembered,’ she scoffed, rolling down her sleeve.
"I will take my leave, Alpha," Scarlet stated firmly, her tone lacking concern. She wouldn’t allow him to speak to her, even if he desired to. Avoiding eye contact, she spoke dismissively, not wanting to see his repulsive face.
"I never asked you to leave," he interjected, blocking her path.
"I never asked for your permission, Alpha," Scarlet retorted. He always managed to ignite her anger whenever they crossed paths. Why couldn’t he simply ignore her? What a despicable man!
"Someone might think you are the Alpha. Your friend is sick. Stop being irrational, for I don’t care whether you hate me or not." As expected, he only wanted to appease her because of Aurora. What a fool. Scarlet wouldn’t do it for her deceased mother.
"I have somewhere to be. Excuse me," she said, walking past him as if he meant nothing, and slammed the door behind her.
Damien disregarded her outburst and approached Aurora on the bed. Unlike when she was unconscious, she now appeared pale and devoid of life.
Why should he care about her? To him, humans were merely tools to carry out his plans. Though he wouldn’t needlessly endanger innocent lives, he couldn’t guarantee their safety.
He hadn’t expected Edward to recklessly ram into their car. He had never realized that Edward was being manipulated by a maniac.
"You still haven’t upheld the contract," he muttered, gazing at her for a moment before leaving the room.
Aurora slowly opened her eyes, adjusting to the bright light in the room. She sat up and glanced around, taking in the spacious and beautiful surroundings.
Then she remembered the pleasant dream she had about her parents and hoped they had taken her back home. She rose from the bed and walked toward the window to confirm her suspicion.
Upon reaching the window, she realized she was still trapped in the same hell they had brought her into five years ago, the mansion. She allowed herself to slump to the ground, resting her head wearily against the wall. Her parents were gone, they wouldn’t come back to take her away.
She was alone, and she would have to endure the agony until she avenged their deaths. Tears welled up in her eyes as she released her pent-up emotions.
Scanning the room, Aurora noticed a used IV drip on a stand, indicating that it had been administered to her while she was unconscious. She removed the needle from her hand and proceeded to take a bath.
As soon as she emerged from the bathroom, she was met with Scarlet’s concerned gaze and tensed posture.
"Aurora, I knew you would make it," Scarlet exclaimed, embracing Aurora with excitement. Scarlet knew Aurora was stronger than most and never doubted that she would wake up.
"Did I worry you too much?" Aurora blinked apologetically and tightened their embrace.
"I knew you were just asleep. The important thing is that you are back," Scarlet replied, releasing her and inspecting Aurora’s body for any injuries. She sighed with relief when she found none.
"What about the Alpha?" Scarlet inquired.
