Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 24: Relieve and Sorrow
Chapter 24: Relieve and Sorrow
"Get your ass out of here before I kill you!" the man yelled at Dave and forcefully dragged the lady away.
Dave wanted to chase after them, but he realized that everyone’s attention was already on him. He didn’t want to ruin his mission and give Damien an opportunity to bully him.
He touched the corner of his lips, which were now bleeding. "It’s not over," he muttered under his breath, vowing to get back at the man.
"Use this," a soft, familiar voice offered as a handkerchief was stretched out to him. Dave received it but hesitated before using it to wipe off the blood from his lips.
Raising his gaze, he locked eyes with those big blue eyes he had always tried to avoid. It was Charlotte, and her smile made him uncomfortable for some reason.
He threw the handkerchief back at her and turned his back, intending to leave before she went into a frenzy. However, Charlotte stopped him and forcefully wiped away the blood with her handkerchief.
"I am not asking for a night with you. I simply offered a handkerchief, like any other person would," she defended her actions as she cleaned the blood away.
Dave could sense that something had changed about her. She used to get nervous and worried whenever she saw a wound on his body, but now she remained calm and composed.
"Thanks for attending my brother’s wedding. Please give my regards to Alpha Damien," she said, withdrawing her hand once she was done wiping the blood away, and then she spoke curtly.
Why was she so calm and not acting clingy? Dave wanted to ask questions, but he refrained, afraid that it might ignite a desire in her.
"It’s nothing. Alpha Nureo is my brother’s friend," he replied.
"Nevertheless, you came even though you didn’t want to see me. I appreciate it," she didn’t sound hurt like she used to, even though she knew he detested seeing her.
Observing her closely, he wondered if she was still the same Charlotte he had known ages ago. She had undergone some growth and appeared more like a lady, but she was still recognizable.
"And I would also like to apologize for the trouble I caused you in the past. I was being childish. Forgive my impudence," she apologized, wearing that same warm smile she had offered earlier.
He couldn’t believe what he was witnessing, Charlotte was no longer obsessed with him. The realization brought him relief. He was finally free.
"I have been searching for you. Are you tired, darling?" Suddenly, a man around the same age as Dave approached, draping his arm around Charlotte’s shoulder in a loving manner. They appeared to be dating. Who was this ’darling’ to her?
"Ah, Sisu needed a cup of water, so I had to run the errand," Charlotte lovingly smiled at him, and it irked Dave.
But why did he care about who she was with? He had always wished for Charlotte to find a man so he could be free, and that wish was coming true now. Why did he care?
"Oh, Dave, this is Ronald, my boyfriend. We are getting married in a month’s time," Dave widened his eyes in realization. Charlotte was getting married soon.
"I..." Dave stammered, unsure of what to say.
"And Ronald, this is Dave, Alpha Damien’s brother," Charlotte introduced both men.
Dave nearly bit his tongue, realizing that Charlotte no longer referred to him as her boyfriend. He needed to control himself and his thoughts.
"Are you okay? You look pale," Ronald asked, reaching out his hand to feel Dave’s forehead. However, Dave dodged Ronald’s touch and replied, "Congratulations on your wedding."
"Thanks. I will send you an invitation as soon as I can," Charlotte said.
"Let’s get you some rest. Our baby needs to relax," Ronald said, bowing slightly to Dave before leading Charlotte away.
Charlotte was already carrying a baby? So much had changed, and Dave was the only one still living in the past. Charlotte was no longer obsessed with him, she was dating someone, getting married, and expecting a child.
After a few minutes, Dave felt hot and needed some fresh air. He made his way to the balcony.
Unfortunately, the last person he wanted to see for the rest of the day was standing there. As he looked at her, he realized that Charlotte had always been a woman, but he had never bothered to see her beyond the image of a girl.
Was it because he was promiscuous and infatuated with sexy women?
The sunlight accentuated her allure, she was no longer the little girl he saw her as. She was soon to be a mother and a wife.
Charlotte sensed the presence of someone else on the balcony and turned to meet Dave’s gaze.
"Do you need something?" She asked, surprised to see him there.
"No," he sternly replied, mentally cursing himself for responding that way. He was still in shock and couldn’t gather his thoughts.
Charlotte smiled and said, "I am sorry for intruding on your space. Have a safe trip back home," then she started walking away.
"I am happy for you. He’s a good man," he suddenly blurted out, unsure where the conversation was heading, but feeling the need to express himself.
Charlotte paused and turned to face him. Although she was surprised that he initiated a conversation between them, she didn’t show it.
"Yes, he will make a fine husband. I hope you find a woman who matches your aura soon. I can’t wait to see you marry her," Dave was taken aback by her words.
She remembered his cruel words, ’You are not befitting of me. I want a woman who matches my aura.’
Well, it wasn’t his fault that she had been so obsessed with him back then. If only she hadn’t been so clingy, he wouldn’t have uttered such harsh words.
"Don’t you want to know how I have been?" he almost slapped himself for asking that question. Charlotte had changed so much that it was hard for him to accept. She hadn’t asked about his life or what he had been doing in the past five years, which was strange.
"You hate it when I bother you, and we don’t have any relationship that would give me the right to ask you those questions," Charlotte replied, smiling broadly at him as if she didn’t care.
He felt embarrassed hearing her repeat the harsh words he had used on her in the past. Was he so blinded by lust that he had hurt her feelings this deeply?
"I am sorry about those words I said. I was just..." he began, but she cut him off, assuring him.
"Bringing up the past only brings misfortune. What matters is that we both got what we wanted. I don’t care about what’s going on in your life, and I am sure you feel the same way. Have a good day."
