Chapter 514: Chapter 128: Suppressing the Waves (3/3)
As the war began, An Jing personally initiated the weather missile, causing it to streak towards the clouds above Linjiang City with a dazzling trail of flames, moving at seven times the speed of sound.
The weather missile from Tianyuan Realm was not merely a physical apparatus for forcing rainfall. Inside, it was equipped with a complete talisman core. Once it breached the cloud barrier of Tianyuan Realm, the talisman plate core loaded with Five Thunders Skills would be overdriven, forcibly dispersing, condensing, descending, and clearing out all changes in weather phenomena within a designated range.
In simple terms, it briefly created a super wide area of weak law domain within a predetermined range, then collapsed the law domain, using such discrepancy to create an imbalance of heaven and earth’s Yuan Qi within a certain area, thereby forbidding all changes in weather phenomena in that area.
When An Jing heard the actual effects of this missile, he had only one thought: shouldn’t this thing be called a Super Wide Area Magic-breaking Missile? Why does it feel like the firepower of the Meteorological Bureau of Tianyuan Realm is more terrifying than the Sky Surveillance Bureau?
However, considering that the clouds in Tianyuan Realm inherently acted like the Fiendish Qi Barrier surrounding the Martial Army - obstructing with the qualities of magical arts - perhaps only a weapon of this caliber would be capable of dispersing the clouds.
All in all, it was just perfect for the situation at hand with Embracing the Void.
Linjiang City’s vicinity first experienced a heavy snowfall, followed by a long-lost clear sky. The defending soldiers and martial artists swallowed nervously, feeling a deep chill spread in their hearts despite the warm sunlight.
From the direction of Yujiang City, a sword-like, electrifying beam of icy light shot straight towards Linjiang City.
However, the chill soon temporarily halted.
In its flight, that icy light seemed to have rammed into something, forced to halt and reveal its form in the area where snow and wind had ceased.
Despite the Ice Chi having almost no brain, even if it had a complete one, it would hardly imagine how there could be a patch of clear sky during the Frost Calamity - wasn’t it heavily snowing just a moment ago?
But now, before the Ice Chi could figure it out with its limited intelligence, it was hit head-on by a second missile.
The ammunition packs used extensively for blowing up dens of Monsters/Demons on the Black Market were roughly loaded onto this original weather missile. Usually, the Ice Chi could have detonated it from a distance immediately, but caught in the effects of the previous Break Magic missile, the Ice Chi’s reaction was momentarily dulled.
Thus, it suffered another severe hit.
The explosion ignited a fiery glow in the sky like a sudden bright red mini sun; irregular fire clouds carrying thunder light splattered in all directions, along with parts of the Ice Chi’s shattered icy skull and flesh rain down, forming layers of extreme frost on the ground, and accompanied by the dizzyingly exploded body of the Ice Chi itself, plummeting like a wing-broken eagle!
"Imperial Heaven..."
In the city, Xu Tai, who was standing guard at the Earth Pulse Node and constantly ready for impact, watched the dragon-like figure falling from the sky, murmuring to himself, "What Heavenly Mechanism Creation is this, so powerful that even an Ice Chi of Divine Repository realm had a setback..."
"A one-time giant Break Magic flying sword? And this Flame Thunder Flying Sword... truly extraordinary!"
At another Earth Pulse Node, Bai Qinghan, seeing the power of the missile, pondered, "That Ice Chi is not a complete Divine Repository, but its body is at that level. The giant Flame Thunder Flying Sword can indeed stun it, but still can’t directly deal it a severe blow."
She raised her voice: "Be careful of the impact, the enemy still has attacking capability!"
Bai Qinghan’s warning was right.
Having little intelligence occasionally could be a good thing. Although it was dazed from the explosion, the Ice Chi still instinctively spat out a breath during its fall.
The massive sound waves and the quake from the Ice Chi’s landing reached Linjiang City one after another, manifesting a layer of faint golden translucent shield—the Earth Vein Formation was functioning normally, serving as the second layer of defense that the missile hadn’t hit, now proving useful.
Although there was no snowstorm around Linjiang City, behind the Ice Chi, the accumulated cloudy seas of Cloud Mountain during the Frost Calamity were slowly pouring down, bringing countless coldness into its body.
It opened its mouth, speaking the dragon’s tongue, and in accordance with the words of the ancient True Spirit, where the spine of the Ice Chi should be, a tempest formed in the now hollow cavity within its body, gathering into a frigid storm.
[Divine Power·Frost Order]
The storm expanded before it, and from the ice-blue center, a beam enveloped in the extreme cold of Bitter Silence shot out, crossing a hundred miles in a slightly curved trajectory towards Linjiang City.
At the Earth Pulse Hub, An Jing devoted all his might to maneuvering the Civil and Military Formation Plate. Although he wasn’t the Soldier Master, due to the Taibai Luminous Godly Ban, his control over the Divine Weapon was extremely adept. Under his command, even a rural Inner Strength warrior like Zheng Mo could use the Divine Weapon to block the Divine Skill of the Divine Repository, let alone An Jing.
The Earth Vein Formation of Linjiang City lit up instantaneously; a ghostly image of the Civil and Military Formation Plate materialized, blocking the Ice Chi Divine Ability before it and firmly keeping it outside the city walls.
Every martial artist stationed at the Earth Pulse Nodes in Linjiang City felt an indescribable chill passing through their bodies. However, soon a warm sensation originating from the earth dispelled this cold.
But the divine power of the Ice Chi wasn’t merely a glistening divine light, but rather a materialized storm. Where the blue light struck, countless snow and ice spontaneously generated, and on the far end of the spectral Earth Vein Formation, bloomed a flower of ice crystals. A massive ice blade mountain made out of tremendous ice spires, amidst gasps of shock from all, slowly toppled towards the walls of Linjiang City.
Boom! The earth shook and mountains trembled as the ice mountain shattered the city walls of Linjiang, embedding at the city’s edge. But that’s not all—the storm of the Ice Chi pierced through the clear skies made by the weather missiles, leaving behind a trail of blue ice path, and closely followed by the Frost Riders who began their charge over this snowy path.
The Ice Escape technique was incredibly fast. Just as the ice mountain toppled and shattered the city walls, within a few breaths, three to four dozen Frost Riders launched a surprise attack.
Wielding long spears and Horse-slaying Greatswords, adorned in armor enhanced by the power of the Ice Chi, the garrison soldiers at other intact sections of the wall fired rockets that struck them. Although it indeed flipped the leading few Frost Riders, knocking all the frontline warhorses into unconsciousness, these battle-hardened warriors promptly dismounted, transforming their Frost Armor into large shields, rushing toward the location of the rocket launchers.
The suppression of the Martial Army over ordinary military was instantly apparent: Even without their warhorses, their strength and agility were far superior to the militia. These warriors approached at twice the speed of an average person running 100 meters, waving weapons so exaggeratedly formidable to ordinary people that a mere light swing up close could sever both the rocket launchers and the heads of those operating them, with blood spraying in the air, instantly freezing into ice pellets.
In merely an instant, a breach had been made in Linjiang City’s defenses, forcing Xu Tai and Bai Qinghan to lead a team to the front.
"An Jing, hold on a little longer!"
At the Earth Pulse Hub, Zheng Mo’s figure suddenly appeared, bringing a message from the Virtuous King: "His Highness is dealing with the Demon Disaster in Hanhai, but he’s well aware of the critical situation here—just wait a bit longer, the Kanming Bell is on its way. It has already developed initial Spiritual Wisdom, and the Ice Chi is definitely no match for it!"
For a moment, An Jing couldn’t understand why the Kanming Bell would end up with the Virtuous King, but considering Zheng Mo was also under the command of the Virtuous King, it seemed both had been enlisted by him.
But now was not the time for such discussions. Without a second thought, he handed the Civil and Military Formation Plate to Zheng Mo: "Brother, it’s useless to talk about these things now. The enemy is at our doorstep, you have experience with the formation plate, use it first and help defend."
With that, An Jing abruptly left the Earth Pulse Hub, leaving a bewildered Zheng Mo behind: "An Jing, what are you planning to do?"
There was no need to answer that question.
The Frost Riders had already cleared the defending soldiers from the city walls, with their blood being frozen into scattered, shattered crimson crystals as they intended to continue surging into the city to directly strike at the Earth Pulse Node. But they were stopped in their tracks by the two leading the defense.
Xu Tai wielded his long spear relentlessly—his strength was not inferior to those great sect martial artists, further enriched by extensive experience handling multiple opponents. The Martial Army was tough to deal with, but without a battle formation, they posed less of a threat to him.
He stood at the forefront, his spear moving like mountains and forests. The advancing Frost Riders were forced to retreat, but the Martial Army, fearless even in death, charged forward to clear a path for their comrades. The initially retreating Frost Riders roared forward defiantly, swinging their great knives against Xu Tai, their actions inspiring the other Frost Riders, the horsemen donned in Frost Armor charging forward.
Overwhelmed and outnumbered, the head of the former escort agency, now the commander of Linjiang City, was forced to retreat.
Woosh, woosh, woosh—a whistling sound as rockets rained down like fiery rain over the city wall, the fierce fire and explosive shockwaves spreading instantaneously, segregating the Frost Riders’ ranks. Amidst the rockets, several Xuanyin techniques shot through; although they couldn’t penetrate the Frost Shields, they added a layer of solid ice to the gaps in the Frost Riders’ armor—suddenly, they could no longer move.
While Bai Qinghan’s strength wasn’t sufficient to join the forefront of the battlefield, her high combat intuition allowed her to precisely pinpoint_THE Frost Riders’ vulnerability—these warriors had received a power boost not inherently their own, unable to control it, a mere push was enough to turn it against them.
Seizing the chance, Xu Tai pierced through several Frost Riders’ skulls, but as deafening battle cries resounded, more Frost Riders arrived, cascading down from the collapsed city walls like an avalanche.
Witnessing this scene, Xu Tai took a sharp breath of cold air, lamenting only that he didn’t possess a Divine Weapon—unafraid and undeterred, his A Promise Worth Thousand Gold vowed commitment kept him from thinking of escape, leaving him with nothing but to fight valiantly to the end, worthy of the position An Jing had placed him in.
"Well done, now let the professionals handle this."
Then, he heard a reassuring voice.
Mixed within Taibai’s light and Blood Fiend’s glow was a swirling Gray Flame Red Core’s fiendish light. An Jing rushed forward at breakneck speed, crashing into the Frost Riders’ formation like a cannonball.
It was clear to see—one Frost Rider along with his armor and warhorse was vertically cleaved in two by a greatsword forged from Blood Fiend and Gold Fiend, and with a punch, another Frost Rider’s head was shattered.
The advance of the Frost Riders came to an abrupt halt.
