Chapter 364: Chapter 14 Selfishness (3/3)
She didn’t ask An Jing how he came by the intelligence on the True Chi Dragon, believing that An Jing would not deceive her, just as An Jing himself had never doubted her words.
"That aligns." After pondering for a moment, Bai Qinghan nodded, "Some time ago, internal intelligence from Da Chen indicated that the Northern Border would be contracting—Heavenly Martial lost strength due to King Jing’s death, and Virtuous King is currently in Shenjing, wrangling with civil and military officials."
"With the main Earth Vein of the Canglai Great Domain lacking the suppression of the Heavenly Martial, contraction is the only option, pooling Divine Weapons from various branches to stand guard."
"Of course, this is also because Da Chen and the Five Sects affiliated with Dust Li had a magical combat involving Pure Yang recently, with Lord Cheng Guang from the Bright Mirror Sect being outplayed. Both parties have demarcated the range of their struggle, and it’s normal for the Divine Weapons stationed around Broken Blade Mountain to be withdrawn, as the area was also designated a battlefield."
"As expected."
An Jing had his speculations, and now, upon hearing this, he knew both notions were correct.
Without the Heavenly Martial to stabilize it, the main Earth Vein of the Canglai Great Domain would indeed be tumultuous, and assembling Divine Weapons is only natural—why move now? Obviously, because of Da Chen’s internal efficiency, moving Divine Weapons from the various branches is a huge task; no one could bear such responsibility. Therefore, officials from prefectures and Dao Supervisors below would not act but would try as much as possible to stall for time.
However, it was the recent negotiations between the Town King of White Mountain Pass and the Heavenly Lords of the Five Sects that became the force behind making things happen, taking on the responsibility, preventing others from using this as an attack. Once they set the range of the conflict for the Northern Border, the movement of Divine Weapons naturally became feasible.
Of course, this required time to adjust. It just so happens that since my arrival in Linjiang City, just over ten days have passed; the timing matches.
"I think I understand now."
Linking all these pieces of information, An Jing understood the reasons behind the various abnormal movements in the Northern Border, he sighed deeply, "I thought it was some inexplicable grand plan, but now it seems, quite reasonable."
"Reasonable does not mean there’s no grand plan," Bai Qinghan shook her head, suggesting, "At least according to intelligence from the Divine Sect, Da Chen has a tumultuous undercurrent and it’s hard to say whether there are ulterior motives behind the plan to move Divine Weapons away from the border."
"Ulterior motives, there definitely are."
An Jing narrowed his eyes, as if his gaze could penetrate walls, directly scrutinizing the government center of Linjiang City, where the Linlang Commerce Chamber is now located, "This chamber of commerce, I guess it might be a front for some high-ranking officials above. This time they’ve come here to replace the local government with private military force to stake out their claims, turning public resources to personal gain."
"Da Chen’s government gave them the opportunity, naturally they would tear off a piece of flesh from this behemoth to enrich themselves."
"As for greater personal interests... there might be, but they’re irrelevant to me."
An Jing revealed a calm smile, "Once I settle mother down for a while and finish one thing, I’ll take her to the Bright Mirror Sect—with that, what does any trouble in Da Chen have to do with me?"
"Mm." Bai Qinghan neither agreed nor disagreed, she just had a few questions, "But can the Bright Mirror Sect really live in peace? Will Da Chen truly allow you to take your mother and cut off all ties to leave smoothly?"
"That is indeed a problem." An Jing was unconcerned, "But I can solve it, and if I really can’t, I’ll deal with it when the time comes."
He also knew that there might be issues within the Bright Mirror Sect itself, not to mention spies; those in collusion with the Heavenly Demon might also be present, and the laws of the Sects in Dust Li are certainly not as perfect and fair as the laws of Da Chen.
But at least, his mother would be within his protection, if something were to happen, he would take responsibility, rather than just having regrets.
Speaking of which, An Jing looked at Bai Qinghan with curiosity, "You came here from Heaven’s Will Mountain... Xiaobai, what exactly is the situation with the core of Heaven’s Will Demon Sect?"
"This is also something I wanted to talk to you about."
When asked this question, Bai Qinghan too took a deep breath, she closed her eyes to ponder for a moment, and then slowly said, "The situation on Heaven’s Will Mountain was beyond my imagination."
She briefly outlined her life on Heaven’s Will Mountain to An Jing.
While at the Heaven’s Will Demon Sect, Bai Qinghan found that within the core of Heaven’s Will Mountain, there wasn’t much of the ’cannibalistic’ brutality one would expect.
Heaven’s Will Mountain is located at the center of the Canglai Great Domain, appointed as the ancestral ground by the Ancestor of Heaven’s Will during his visit to the North Mysterious Sacrifice Continent. Here, the clouds are like white jade, the fragrance travels for miles; among the mountains, there are streams that serve as bridges, upon stepping on them, the flowing Spirit Water can transport anyone to any desired place.
Here, the practitioners, even though they are members of the Demon Sect, each dressed properly, behaved with propriety, and their bodies bore little sign of bloodshed.
Even if there were disputes, they were mostly conflicts within Martial Arts, without a hint of the bloodshed and curses that come with the slaughter of commoners, no different from the true teachings passed down by the Great Sects.
Once she, the Goddess, settled on Mysterious Yin Peak, she had her own group of followers—this foundation had been there from the beginning, belonging only to Mysterious Yin Peak, simply waiting for a Goddess who met the criteria to be born.
They were the power of the Mysterious Yin Goddess; Bai Qinghan could use this power to do anything, whether establishing her own force, waging war against enemy countries, developing the Wilderness, or clearing away evil spirits... anything was possible.
Anything was possible.
On Heaven’s Will Mountain, the biggest rule was that there were no rules.
Therefore, rules were present everywhere.
While cultivating in seclusion on Mysterious Yin Peak, Bai Qinghan had seen a Martial Meridian Grandmaster returning to report on his duties. Perhaps due to some difficulties in his work, he quarreled with another Martial Meridian Grandmaster on the road. The usually smiling, amiable Resident Mountain Grandmaster’s smile faded slowly.
His natural state of mind, his smooth thought process, his carefree spirit in harmony with the heavens, was shattered.
"If I can’t beat you severely, I would have no right to stay on this mountain," he had said.
So it was decided; they fought a duel at the martial platform below the peak. Yet it was the Resident Mountain Grandmaster who gained the upper hand.
The defeated Grandmaster didn’t die, but his expression was more terrifying than death itself.
Bai Qinghan paid attention to him.
She paid attention to this defeated Grandmaster, wanting to see if there was darkness in Heaven’s Will Mountain like that in Hanging Fate Manor.
She indeed saw it—yet it was different from what she had imagined.
The Grandmaster lost all his duties. It sounded leisurely, but it was tantamount to being stripped of all power. He became penniless; all his Magical Soldiers were taken by the victorious Grandmaster, all supplies from inside the Sect were cut off, he could no longer go to the Earth Vein sacred lands to cultivate, nor could he return to his former Law Altar and be the natural center among thousands of followers.
He didn’t die. His wife and children, his disciples, his friends and subordinates remained unchanged. And though they might change in the future, at least for now, this defeated Grandmaster still had his family, and nobody discriminated against him because of his loss.
But Bai Qinghan understood that, within the system of the Divine Sect, he was already dead.
Because he had overstepped his bounds, offended others, and lost everything in the battle.
Unless he changed.
Unless, when he had nothing, he gained something once again.
It might be going alone to the sea to find an unexplored island, slaughtering all the Fairies and Exotic Beasts there, and planting the flag of the Divine Sect on the island.
Or, left only with himself, researching Martial Skills and Secret Techniques, creating his very own Secret Skills—no matter how crude or cheap, as long as it had some originality and effectiveness, any new Skills would do.
Alternatively, go alone to a foreign land, outside of the Divine Sect’s influence, and start from zero again, establishing a new Law Altar.
There were many ways.
But all were difficult, all were painful, all required starting from scratch, relying on no one, not dependent on the Sect, using one’s power to create value.
Then, offer this value to the Divine Sect.
The Divine Sect would then accept him once more, provide him with a status far exceeding his contribution, allow him to become a Grandmaster of the Sect once again, possessing the Sect’s resources, protection, and the Great Dao’s true transmission.
