Chapter 32: Baby’s First War
Chapter 32: Baby’s First War
SLAM! SLAM! SLAM!
The two warriors began to send Alexander to and fro with both sword and fist, giving him no time to calculate his next red attack.
But Alexander suddenly spun in mid-air like a blender’s blade, blue myriad tentacles jutting out of him.
Arahabaki, sensing danger, leapt out of the area.
But Yam was captured by some of the tentacles.
Sad.
Alexander took a deep breath, then began to smash Yam into everything that had mass and carried weight—Yam’s head hitting and destroying the environment like a demolishing ball.
Loud cracks and crashes echoed as his face collided with cars, water hydrants, buildings, and glass.
Then he was pulled toward Alexander—forcefully and swiftly.
As he closed in, Alexander’s hand swelled, red veins pulsing and bulging like fire beneath the skin.
The moment Yam was within reach—
GBAAAAMMMM!!
—he slammed him into the earth with a thunderous crash. The ground fractured violently, caving beneath them both as they plummeted into the depths.
They landed in a ruined subway station.
Alexander didn’t even glance around to register the new space.
A blade streaked through the air—Yam was already upon him, slashing across his chest.
Alexander flew back, colliding with a concrete pillar, the impact cracking it down the middle.
Yam gave no pause. He charged in and punched him—once, twice. The entire station trembled.
Alexander’s head snapped sideways, red fluid streaking over the blue mask of his face.
But in a heartbeat, the red force flared from within him—and swallowed Yam whole, carrying him upward like a rocket, straight back to the surface.
The concrete erupted. Alexander burst out of the ground like a whale breaching the ocean, scattering rubble and dust into the sky.
As he landed, he spotted his foes:
Yam and Arahabaki, some meters away, bloodied and worn.
Arahabaki’s ponytail had come undone, dark hair fanned across his shoulders. His armor cracked, his stance unshaken.
Yam’s chest was bare, what was once a shirt now hanging like a torn sash around his waist.
Yam lifted his head and rasped in a solemn tone:
"Από το βάθος του Εδέμ, χαίρε, ερυθρέ αδελφέ — καλώ."
(From the depth of Eden, rejoice, crimson brother — I summon thee.)
The space beside him split like torn cloth.
From the rift, a Great Sword emerged—taller than he was, its blade wrapped in coiled vines and etched with characters older than language. It grew from the breach like a living thing.
Yam gripped the hilt—and his hair began to change, turning from grey to a luminous green.
"We’ll have to use everything..." Arahabaki murmured. His hair bled white at the ends, and golden veins webbed across his skin, filling his eyes with light—golden pupils glowing against black sclera.
Yam disappeared.
No—he moved from that place.
Then Arahabaki attacked.
His swing carved the air—and the city itself reacted.
Buildings tipped sideways. The street cracked open and dipped like it was bowing to the blade.
Behind Alexander, the earth split.
A miniature trench stretched where the sword had passed—and Alexander himself stood still... split clean down the center...
*
Inside the split blue silhouette, Alexander had stuffed his tiny self into one half, his eyes wide and cold sweat on his face.
In the next moment, the two halves joined back together, and Alexander began to move towards Arahabaki with killing intent.
Arahabaki immediately attempted to leap away as usual, but something grasped his hair mid-air.
Concentrating in a higher and more complex manner, one more arm developed from Alexander’s torso, and it became the beginning of pain—
His fists glowed bright crimson as he began to relay a flurry of blurred punches straight at Arahabaki’s gut.
Arahabaki was unable to evade or block due to his hair being grabbed, and the punches were too fast and powerful.
But before Alexander could keep up the punches, he was struck down by a great sword. The trench widened vastly from the shock, and Alexander fell into it.
Then the normally dark sword began to glow a crimson light—
"Obliterate!!"
Yam yelled as the sword burst with a flood of flames, the trench glowing red from the heat.
A blue flash appeared—and in the next moment, vibration and quake.
The blue flash arrived at such a speed that when his head collided with Yam’s, the trench widened even further—making it now more of a cliff than some trench.
The head attack from Alexander sent Yam flying off again.
Just as Alexander wanted to ready himself once more—
"Die!"
Arahabaki’s katana, now with a golden blade, struck his back.
The two tall buildings flanking them were cleanly severed from the force, and Alexander was slashed several distances away—without even smashing into any building, they vibrated, and the glass and pieces of them shattered.
Nearly reaching the ground after a few seconds of suspension, Arahabaki was already on the move.
SLAAMMM!
The golden blade seared at his face—then white.
A flash surged from the collision that removed everything within 40 meters, leaving only flat, cracked land.
But looking down, Alexander had caught the blades within his clasped hands, trembling from the clashing of strength.
Not wasting a beat, Arahabaki twisted and spun around and over Alexander, until Alexander realized:
Arahabaki had used a black line to restrain him and bent Alexander into place;
His hands tangled and held together by the string, and his chest pushed up facing the sky as Arahabaki, beneath his back, held him still.
Alexander struggled to break free, but Arahabaki was using all his strength—the ground beneath them sinking and cracking from their struggle.
[Yam, now!!]
Then Yam descended with the great crimson and fiery blade, the pointy angle aimed at the chest—at the baby Alexander position—though the blade was wide enough to pierce both Alexander’s chest and entire abdominal region.
Yam struck—BOOM!
The already sinking ground went another few feet deeper from the tremor.
Arahabaki below had gritted his teeth in case the blade struck him too...
But...
While the sword had indeed connected, something was off.
If we could take a look inside the [Jericho] shell, we’d see baby Alexander’s shaking, red-clad hands and legs grabbing the blade, the tip inches away from tearing into him.
Alexander immediately opened his mouth wide, red veins flowing in an artistic manner over his cheeks, then it glowed crimson—
BZZZZZTTTTTT!!
A large beam of red light burst out of the blue form’s chest, assaulted Yam, and blasted him yet again.
The great sword—or what remained of it—fell to the ground, melting.
Alexander, inside the shell, turned toward Arahabaki.
Panting, drained, he gathered [GOD] energy into his small hand and fired.
Arahabaki drilled into the earth from the force, but twisted mid-crash and landed smoothly.
His upper garments had been completely torn away now, and his body was battered all over.
"Tsk!"
He clicked his tongue and leapt far back, landing atop a ruined building.
Then he began to chant:
" 「敕令!吉凶之光,听吾号令——
(By divine decree! O Light of Fortune and Ruin, heed my command—)
灭此无明之恶.
(Annihilate this ignorant evil!)
煌煌天威,光尊降世,
(In blazing heavenly might, the Radiant Sovereign descends—)
荡尽仇敌!」
(And purges all enemies!)"
At the same time, Yam appeared beside him, raising his voice with his own incantation—
> בְּשֵׁם אֲשֵׁרָה, אֵם כָּל־נֶפֶשׁ!"
(By the name of Asherah, Mother of All Souls!)
הַאֲזִינִי וַעֲנִי נָא!
(Hear me and answer now!)
תְּנִי־לִי אֶת־כֹּחַ הָאֲסוּרִים,
(Grant me the power of bindings,)
וַאֲסָרְךָ יִהְיֶה אָסוּר בִּרְזִים!
(And may your binding be locked with bolts!)
סָגוֹר סְגוֹר אוֹיְבִי כְּמוֹ דֶּלֶת נְחֹשֶׁת,
(Seal, seal my enemy like a bronze gate,)
וְלֹא יוּכַל לָקוּם עוֹד!
(And let him rise no more!)"
...
(Oh God... these people just want me dead... I’m tired...)
At once, as Yam chanted, the entire city bulged — as if a giant serpent buried beneath had begun to stir.
The ground rippled upward in waves, a pulse from the deep.
Then came the vines. Enormous ones — thick as columns, nearly fifteen feet wide — tore through the ground, heaving and cracking the foundation of the city.
From their roots, smaller vines, each the width of a man’s arm, lashed out like striking vipers, homing in on Alexander.
Even as he snapped them off with brute force, they returned, persistent and endless.
Then the sky darkened. Clouds swirled into black thunderheads. The wind screamed.
Above, golden lightning rumbled, thick energy choking the heavens.
By now, the vines had fully wrapped around Alexander, burying him in a writhing sea of green that nearly drowned the entire city beneath it — a display of overwhelming, ancient binding power.
But even so...
The vines began to tremble.
Subtle tears formed.
A slow cracking.
Alexander was still fighting back.
"I’ve done my part!" Yam yelled. "He’s bound, but not for long!"
Arahabaki nodded.
Then slowly, his hand began to descend, like he was lowering something heavy from an invisible space — locking in on Alexander’s position.
A massive pillar of light pierced through the clouds, like a giant finger pushing through thin film, shrieking with a [WHEEEEEEE], and targeted entirely at the captured Alexander.
"This is the end, Predator," Arahabaki coughed. "Hakai suru."
As the otherworldly force neared Alexander — halfway—
"ROOOOOAAAARRRR!!"
A deep, ancient growl tore through the air, and the vines — even the ones wrapping the city — exploded outward, the remnants blazing in red fire.
At Alexander’s position, a crimson force — nearly as intense as the light from above — burst forth. Alexander now stood transformed: the Red Beast, fully clad in [GOD].
