Chapter 122: Triple Quickfire 6

[The question now is, how do Roda JC respond?] the first commentator asked as play resumed.

[If they don’t tighten up at the back, it’s going to be a long night for them,] the second commentator replied. [Because Benjamin is just getting started]

The ball was placed at the center circle for the restart, but the Roda JC players looked rattled. They exchanged frustrated glances as they tried to regroup.

Fweeee!~

The referee’s whistle blew, and the game resumed.

Roda JC attempted to pass it around the back to regain composure, but AZ Alkmaar’s high press locked them in place.

Johannsson, who was fresh and full of energy, charged at the center-back, forcing an errant pass that went straight to Overtoom.

[They’re under siege again! Roda JC can’t seem to catch a break,] the second commentator said.

Overtoom controlled the ball with ease, scanning the field before threading a quick pass to Adam in the center.

Adam feigned a pass forward, pulling his marker out of position, then flicked the ball sideways to Gorter, who surged forward on the left.

[Gorter’s been a constant outlet tonight, hasn’t he?] the first commentator remarked. [He’s got space to overlap and run into here]

Gorter drove down the flank before whipping in a low cross aimed at the near post.

Johannsson was there again, sliding in to meet it despite the defenders attempts to himder his movements, but the goalkeeper got down quickly to smother the ball.

[Good save! You have to give credit to the Roda JC goalkeeper,] the second commentator said. [He’s had to deal with non-stop pressure, and he’s still making key stops]

The goalkeeper wasted no time, launching a long ball downfield. Roda JC’s striker tried to bring it down, but Marcellis was once again dominant in the air, heading it back into AZ Alkmaar’s possession.

Benjamin, who was lingering wide on the left, moved into space as the ball found its way back to Adam.

A subtle hand gesture from Benjamin signaled his intent, and Adam delivered a pinpoint pass that split two defenders.

[Benjamin’s in acres of space again!] the first commentator shouted, his excitement palpable.

Benjamin collected the ball with a soft touch, his eyes scanning the box as he accelerated down the wing.

The defenders scrambled to close him down, but he was a step ahead, cutting inside with a sharp turn.

[Here he comes! He’s got options in the box,] the second commentator said.

Benjamin feigned a pass to Johannsson at the near post, freezing the defenders for a split second, before opting for a shot himself.

His strike was low and powerful, skimming just past the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper and rattling off the outside of the post.

CLANG!!!

[Oh, so close! Benjamin nearly had his second there,] the first commentator exclaimed. [He’s absolutely tormenting that backline tonight]

The rebound fell to Berghuis on the edge of the box, but his shot was blocked by a sliding defender.

The ball spun out for a corner, and AZ Alkmaar’s players quickly regrouped for the set piece.

Benjamin jogged to the corner flag with a calm and focused expression on his face. The home crowd’s anticipation grew as he placed the ball carefully, taking a few steps back before raising his hand to signal the delivery.

[Here’s Benjamin with the corner. Can AZ Alkmaar make this one count?] the second commentator asked.

The ball was whipped in with pace, curling toward the penalty spot. Johannsson leaped highest, but his header was deflected wide by the head of a defender.

[Another close call! AZ Alkmaar are knocking on the door, but Roda JC just about hold on,] the first commentator said.

The ball was cleared only as far as Martens, who quickly recycled possession, sending it back to Benjamin on the left.

Without hesitation, Benjamin swung in another cross, this time to the far post where Berghuis was lurking.

[Another delivery from Benjamin—can they finish it this time?]

Berghuis connected with a clean header, sending the ball back across goal, but the goalkeeper somehow managed to tip it over the bar.

[What a save! How is this still 4-0?] the second commentator shouted, almost laughing at the drama unfolding.

The AZ Alkmaar players couldn’t believe their luck, but Benjamin clapped his hands, rallying his teammates to keep the pressure on.

The crowd was fully behind them now, their chants echoing through the AFAS Stadion.

[It feels like only a matter of time before they get another, doesn’t it?] the first commentator said. [This kind of relentless attacking football—it’s just brilliant to watch]

[And Benjamin’s at the heart of it all,] the second commentator added. [He’s been everywhere tonight. If he keeps this up, the sky’s the limit for this kid]

Benjamin stood over the resulting corner, and his focus remained unwavering as the defenders and attackers jostled for position in the box.

The tension in the air was palpable, with the crowd urging AZ Alkmaar to capitalize on the chaos.

Benjamin delivered a driven cross into the heart of the penalty area. The ball was met with a flurry of bodies, deflecting off a Roda JC defender before bouncing toward Martens at the edge of the box. He didn’t hesitate, firing a low, first-time shot through the crowd.

A Roda JC defender lunged desperately, but his arm blocked the ball’s trajectory, sending it spiraling away from danger.

Fweeee!~

The referee’s whistle immediately cut through the noise, and he pointed straight to the penalty spot.

[Penalty! Oh, the referee’s given it!] the first commentator exclaimed. [You could see that clear as day—the defender’s arm was outstretched before making contact with the ball!]

The Roda JC players swarmed the referee, their protests loud and animated.

Multiple arms waved and voices rose, but the official remained unfazed, shaking his head firmly and gesturing toward the spot.

[There’s no getting out of that one,] the second commentator said. [His arm was in an unnatural position. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty]
