Both split souls of Bo Jingmo gave Yu Li quite the headache.

The enthusiastic puppy-like version was reckless and didn't know his own strength.

As for the hospital director version... well, the problems multiplied.

She straightened her clothes, ignoring the aggrieved look from the male ghost beside her, and picked up the documents from the bed.

"I'm leaving now. I'll visit when I have time. Clean this place up."

The ghost gently tugged her sleeve. "Lili, are you angry? Will you still come see me?"

Yu Li gave him a sidelong glance before leaning down to caress his face. "A little. Be good these days. I'll talk to you when I'm not angry anymore, understand?"

So stop obsessing over killing your other self every single day.

The ghost nodded obediently. "Okay."

As she opened the door to leave, the ghost unexpectedly followed.

"I thought you couldn't leave this place?"

Bo Jingmo blinked as if stating the obvious. "It's fine, Lili. I'll just walk you to the door."

"No need. I can go myself."

Running into the other Bo Jingmo would be troublesome. She wasn't ready for that confrontation yet.

Hearing this, the ghost tugged her sleeve again, lips pursed timidly. "They can't see me... Lili, this place isn't safe."

Yu Li raised an eyebrow. "Then why did you let me in?"

Bo Jingmo's eyes curved like a pleased puppy proudly showing off to its owner.

"Because this is my territory. That thing doesn't dare come here."

That thing?

Yu Li pondered. When she entered, she had noticed something unusual about the fourth floor's aura, but with so many spirits around, she hadn't paid it much mind.

It could actually divide territory with Bo Jingmo?

Her interest piqued. "Can't you defeat him?"

At this question, a flash of malice crossed Bo Jingmo's face before reverting to his pitiful expression.

"Lili, I could have won! But that bastard on the fifth floor keeps targeting me, suppressing my power. Once I kill him, everything will be fine—"

"..."

And we're back to square one.

She stroked his face, trying to divert his attention. "Did you have anything to do with the third-floor patient incident? Any connection to other spirits?"

Bo Jingmo nuzzled her palm, eyes shining. "I only did it today! Usually it's them. Lili, I've been good."

Having noticed Yu Li could see these entities, he'd caused disturbances both to get her attention and lure her to the fourth floor.

But that damned fifth-floor spirit had nearly killed him today, weakening him further.

Bo Jingmo sneered at the thought.

Let's see who's tougher then! Bring it on!

Yu Li didn't buy his "good behavior" claim, but the male ghost he mentioned concerned her.

Apparently, that ghost had repeatedly used similar methods to bring patients to the fourth floor. Like Bo Jingmo, it probably couldn't leave this area.

Her gaze sharpened as she studied Bo Jingmo.

"Where is that ghost's territory?"

Meanwhile, the other side of the corridor.

"Ding—"

The elevator doors opened, its warm yellow light illuminating the dark hallway.

Faced with the darkness, the young nurse clutched her flashlight, voice trembling. "Sister Yu... why are there no lights on the fourth floor?"

Xiao Chen was a recent intern who'd mostly flown under the radar. When Yu Yu suddenly needed someone to accompany her on fourth-floor rounds tonight, she'd been "honored" with the selection.

For some reason, Xiao Chen kept feeling unseen eyes watching from the corridor.

Though the layout matched other floors, the densely packed rooms exuded an inexplicable eeriness that made her hair stand on end.

Yu Yu, accustomed to this, walked ahead confidently. "Some patients are light-sensitive. Even slight illumination disturbs their sleep. Just stay close behind me."

"O-okay." The nurse stammered, gripping Yu Yu's sleeve as they proceeded, their faint footsteps the only sound in the vast hallway.

While checking rooms, Xiao Chen suddenly felt something tap her shoulder.

She paled instantly, screaming— "Ah— Mmph!"

Yu Yu swiftly covered her mouth.

"What's wrong? Why scream?"

Xiao Chen clutched her wrist, trembling. "Sis... something touched my shoulder just now."

Yu Yu shone the light behind them, frowning. "Nonsense. There's nothing there. It's just your imagination. Don't spook yourself."

Just imagination?

Xiao Chen stayed silent, praying for this inspection to end quickly. She couldn't take much more.

The oppressive silence, the disinfectant-laden air—everything frayed her nerves. Her throat dried as her temples throbbed.

When they reached the male patient's room (transferred that afternoon), faint knocking suddenly came from the door.

Xiao Chen nearly screamed again but swallowed it seeing Yu Yu's composure.

The knocking persisted— rhythmic, deliberate taps against the wood.

"Thud... thud... thud."

Yu Yu's expression darkened as she exchanged glances with Xiao Chen.

After a moment's thought, she slowly angled the flashlight through the door's window—

And abruptly met glowing green eyes.

The man crouched grotesquely on the bed, pupils slit like a cat's, emerald light shining from them, his grin stretching ear to ear.

The sight froze Yu Yu momentarily before realization struck—

This patient was supposed to be restrained!

Her breathing hitched as dread set in. The nurse beside her whispered nervously, "Sis... what do you see?"

Yu Yu swallowed hard, voice strained. "We're leaving..."

"What?" Xiao Chen leaned closer to look, but Yu Yu suddenly grabbed her wrist, pulling her briskly toward the elevator.

"We're returning to the third floor. Now." Yu Yu commanded sternly.

But as they stepped forward, the flashlight abruptly died, plunging them into total darkness.

Simultaneously, banging erupted throughout the hallway— doors slamming violently amid rising wails that shifted from mournful sobs to shrieking hysteria.

"Nurse... I'm not sick! Let me out!!"

"Waaaah! I'm normal! Why lock me here? I want Mommy and Daddy!"

"NURSE!! Help me please! Open the door!"

"It's too dark! I hate it! Let me OUT! OUT!!"

The lamentations abruptly twisted into bloodcurdling screams.

"AAAAHHH—! HELP! MURDER!"

"GHOSTS! THERE ARE GHOSTS IN HERE!! NURSE, SAVE US!!"
