Chapter 1436: Kids and Maturity (Part 1)

Anyway, the event cut their trip short, and they headed to another park instead. Althea and Garan had to go back to work, and they kissed their two babies goodbye, while the soldiers continued on with their search for battle pets.

Fortunately, when the kids were gone, the animals had returned to normal.

They became more snobbish, though. Of course, the day was long, so fortunately, there were indeed a few successes, particularly among the soldiers.

Other than Luis, Mao did get his Iron Panda, though he took 3 more rounds after the first failure.

He also almost lost his hand forming the contract, too.

Turbo got himself a large black dog as a battle pet. It was like a doberman, but chubbier and had a flatter nose.

One of the more unusual ones was what Chris got. A mole. They didn’t even know they had moles in there! Chris was looking for a good fit when something came up from below ground and bit him.

Well, that proved their reliability in terms of hiding, considering they weren’t detected for so long.

Anyway, even when it might seem like an odd fit since Chris was a wind user, he was more of a scout and having underground assistance could definitely help him out.

A lot of the other soldiers, like Gill and Loki, didn’t try at all. This was because, while they thought it’d be cool, they didn’t want to have to worry about another critter.

Anyway, the success of the three people inspired a lot of Alterrans. They wondered if they would also get battle pets!?

Later, it would get to the point that they had to control the entries to the Wild Animal habitat. Not only would it require a pretty high Contribution Points, but they also had to make an extra oath to take care of the animal well, on top of never using it against Alterra or an Alterran in any way or form.

Still, just as Alterra had surprising amounts of elementalists, the aborigines would also come to be surprised by the sheer number of battle pets that’d be roaming around very soon.

...

While the animal habitat was still busy, Lola and Yana now headed back home. They were too tired. They were not young anymore to handle that much stress.

At some point, the babies just wanted to ride on Fufi, so they put them on his back.

Sadly, each of the babies wanted to climb on the dog’s head.

"No! Bad Meatbaw!" Pepper yelled, tapping her brother on the face. How could Meatball accept it? The baby boy ended up hitting his sister with more force, and it ended up being an all-out fight where the two babies were pulling each other’s hair.

"No, you bad Peppa!"

The two old women immediately pried them apart, though not without the babies grabbing strands of hair of their sibling (which wasn’t a lot in the first place) in their small grasp.

"Hey now, don’t fight..."

Even when they were much smarter than kids their age, their vocabulary was still very limited at 1 year old. Amazingly, these words were what ended up in their vocabulary.

The two old women took the misbehaving babies and carried one each, to their chagrin.

"Wuuu..."

"Nooo..."

Lola, who was holding Pepper, rubbed her cheek. "You shouldn’t beat up your brother. You’re the big sister, you know..." she said. Lola did not expect Pepper to understand, but she ought to know it was not a good thing.

Yana, on the other hand, gently squeezed the baby boy’s nose, making him scrunch his little face. "You shouldn’t be hitting people, especially girls, and especially your sister! Naughty."

"Wuuu..."

Then, the two old women made the kids face each other, though they ended up just glaring.

"..."

Well, it was normal for siblings to fight like this, so they could only let it be.

Fortunately, the babies were soon distracted because they reached the bigger parks, and there were a lot of people here, particularly because it was the weekend.

Maya, Honda, Mimi, Fiona, and the others were playing various kids’ games here. Sometimes it was tag, sometimes it was hide and seek, sometimes it was jump rope, and the like.

"Pwayyy!! Pwayyyy!!" Meatball yelled, wiggling his butt in impatience. Yana laughed and put him down, and so did Lola with Pepper, taking down the tether and asked Fufi to watch over the kids.

The two old women went to the bench to watch, just appreciating the cuteness. When the babies arrived, the group of kids naturally changed their game to one that the babies could join in on.

For example, Tag, or a game called Freeze Tag, which was a variation of the Terran game ’Red Light, Green Light’. In this game, the caller would stand at the far end of the play area, facing away from the group.

The remaining kids would line up at the opposite end. The caller would shout ’Flare’ while facing away, while the rest of the players run towards them.

The caller would then yell ’Elder Garan says Freeze’ and quickly turn around at the last word. The players must freeze instantly while the Caller—also called the Garan—was looking at them.

If the Garan saw anyone moving during this time, he’d call them out and make a hand gesture as if an imaginary ice spike would land on them. Amusingly, some kids would be so into it, that when they got ’spiked down’, they’d dramatically clench their chest and fall down.

That said, the babies really couldn’t stay frozen for long, so the Caller would always ignore their movements, at least in the first half of the game, to make sure they weren’t the first ones to be shot down.

The old women chuckled at their cuteness. "It’s so nice to see the kids so carefree..."

"Some of them have joined the training program already though," Lola said, observing all the kids there. Horus was not there anymore, so she was suddenly reminded of it.

Honda landed at 12 years old about a month ago, and this meant he entered the Barrack’s training program already.

That said, to celebrate, they threw him a party. The boy wanted a simple birthday party, so it was just dinner at the house.

However, even when the child was quiet and tried to appear mature, his reddish cheeks and glistening eyes told all the adults there that he was happy.

As adults, they felt especially proud. After all, they let the child act like a child again, even if just for a little while.
