Chapter 496: Chapter 462: The Twelve Zodiac Golden Gates (2 more updates)

The Montgomery Family quietly held a few funerals, drawing the attention of various powers within the Dark City.

The man who had previously contacted Ryder Montgomery, made a quick round near the Montgomery Family residence, then hurriedly left.

Unnoticed, a slender figure followed him and boarded the rail car heading to another district.

The rail car essentially wasn’t much different from subway: both driven by stored electricity with a traveling range measured in tens of thousands of miles.

Such is the benefit of modern technological advancement.

In the past, people in Dark City moved mainly using high-strength ancient martial arts, those whose cultivation wasn’t up to the mark used horses.

In a different carriage, Chloe Stephens watched the passing landscape outside.

There weren’t many people, from the front to the rear end where some people stood.

She followed them off the rail car.

Chloe took out her mobile phone, which had no signal at all.

Looking around, not much had changed in the Dark City; there were certain things that couldn’t be altered as freely as they could be in the outside world.

This place was akin to a special parallel universe: existing simultaneously while embedded within another space-time.

At the same moment,

Several figures followed her in. When the rail car started moving, Chloe glanced over at this newly arrived group, all of whom were wearing masks.

Upon entering, they began looking around.

It seemed they were looking for something.

Upon spotting the man, the group suddenly walked towards him.

Chloe stayed in place, observing them.

Suddenly,

The man walked towards the rear and ended up at the last car window.

With a loud ’bang’, the man threw himself out of the window.

The group’s faces changed instantly, they rushed out after him while the rail car continued to move forward.

While everyone’s attention was on the group, no one noticed that the girl who had been in the carriage had disappeared.

Standing before a building in front. Buildings in Dark City were generally below five or six stories.

There were no skyscrapers.

From the rooftop, Chloe could see figures chasing each other across an open space.

"Bang!"

There was suddenly a loud noise from up ahead.

A small building was bombed to ruins.

Judging from their abilities, Chloe knew that these people were certain to lose.

She had no interest in this group, what she wanted to learn was what the man intended to do by prowling around the Montgomery residence.

As expected, the group was no match for the man, and they soon disappeared in another direction of the Dark City, leaving behind pissed off pursuers.

Chloe followed the man.

Midway,

She changed her appearance, even her voice was altered. With short hair and dressed casually, she looked like an ideal youthful youngster!

As she stopped in a bustling market, blending in with the crowd and drawing no attention.

Chloe was unaware that after her departure, the group had found a place to rendezvous with the people from the Stephens Family who had followed them.

That’s right.

Those men were the ones arranged by Pierce Stephens himself.

The leader of the arrived group was – Caden Reid!

The actual First Guardian next to Pierce Stephens, Jeremy Jennings was just the Guardian in name, whereas Caden Reid was the one who handled matters in secret for Pierce Stephens!

"Guard Caden, the man ran away. We couldn’t get any word about Old Madam’s whereabouts."

The leader of group remained silent, bowing his head.

Caden Reid knew they’d given their best. That man was quite capable, definitely not beneath him. Someone could elude them in such a short time was within his expectations.

"Which direction did he go? Pursue immediately!"

"Yes, sir!"

All the men got ready, followed Caden Reid and set off again.

Chloe followed the man to a secluded place, crossing thick forests, she looked at the lush trees and then at the surrounding mountains.

She recognized this place.

It was the entrance to the Dark City, or rather, the old entrance passage.

Near the so-called Golden Gate.

There are twelve Golden Gates in the entire Dark City. Hundreds of years ago, they were known as the Twelve Palace Gates.

The entrances of the Twelve Palaces were forgotten over time, or rather, were rejected by the ancient martial artists of the Twelfth Palaces.

Chloe took a side path instead of following the man.

She was all too familiar with the Golden Gate.

Above the passage, continuous streams of water were rushing down. Below the water, the old path had been covered with moss and some aquatic plants.

Chloe walked in.

After circling the entrance of the cave twice, she reached a platform at the side of the mountain faster than the man. Looking to the other side, there was a winding cement road carved along the mountain.

Chloe saw people moving around the ancient tower at the edge of the mountain in small groups.

This place had become a base for some people.

The man walked inside the tower and came out not long after. There was no guard at the door, only some sensors, Infrared rays sweeps, and ancient mechanisms.

Chloewalked in from the other side; be it infrared rays or sensors, or triggers that could activate by sounds, all were calm and quiet with no movements at all.

Not everyone was capable of spatial teleportation.

Within a moment, Chloe reached the center.

Opening a room door, she was a bit stumped upon seeing a man lying quietly inside.

The room was filled with the heavy smell of medicine.

Life-sustaining medicine.

Chloe looked carefully, thinking that this pale-faced, weak, frail man looked somewhat familiar.

Standing in front of him, examining him closely, this man looked about Adam Stephen’s age.

The only difference was that this man had been deprived of sunlight for many years, sickly pale.

His body was also weak, likely born with an illness.

This wasn’t his place of residence; someone had moved him here.

Chloe left the room to open another and found a severely wounded woman lying on the floor. The woman was of some age.

As she was about to leave and open another room, she caught a glimpse of a bracelet in the woman’s hand and paused.

Stepping to the woman’s side, she took a clear look at the woman’s face and tightened her lips.

It was Charlotte Richardson!

At the entrance to the Sheffield City Region, Yvette Foster secured her mask, then turned back and glanced at Adam Stephens who was holding her hand. She took a deep breath, still very worried: "What if the company discovers that the person overseeing operations there is an imposter... Will they use it as leverage against the Stephens Family..."

Adam put his arm around her shoulder, "We’ll cross that bridge only if they discover it. This time we’re here to find Mother, and secondly to check on Alex’s situation."

After hearing from Pierce Stephensthat Alex’s condition wasn’t good, Adam was very worried.

Yvette Foster seemed rather surprised, as she had thought that Adam didn’t have strong maternal feelings for Charlotte Richardson.

Based on now, it seemed that she didn’t fully understand the relationship between her husband and mother-in-law.

"What’s wrong?" Adam spotted something different about Yvette Foster through the eyeholes of the mask.

Yvette shook her head: "I just want to quickly find Mother and confirm Alex’s safety. After we went in, I don’t know if Chloe will be anxious if she can’t find anyone at home."

"Chloe sent me a message saying she’s staying at a classmate’s place. I also confirmed it with her classmate. Don’t worry about the situation outside, I’ve arranged everything."

Little did Adam know, that Abigail Wilson was also just lying through her teeth. As to where Chloe had gone, she had absolutely no idea.

She was always asking for leaves of absence and didn’t take her studies seriously at all.

Abigail Wilson looked up at the teacher on stage, George Howard, and suddenly felt very sympathetic towards him, their headteacher!
