Chapter 317: Chapter 290: Their Alliance will Eventually Lead to Trouble (3 more updates)

When Pierce arrived, the elders had already had a serious discussion.

It was unclear what Carl and the elders had talked about, but everyone seemed much more relaxed.

Pierce gave the crowd a fleeting glance.

It was all about the profit.

He understood.

It must have been that Carl had offered them enough benefits to let go of their objections.

"Pierce, we called you here for a particular matter which you must be aware of. Being straightforward is always the best, so let me get to the point. The Fisher Family is still the leader among the Three Great Families of Sheffield, and our Stephens Family has always had the intention of forming an alliance through marriage. However, we have never been successful in this endeavor before."

The elder paused and continued, "But this time, after consulting with a fortune teller, we found that the birth charts of the two youngsters match exceptionally well, signifying a lifelong bond. Therefore, we plan to have the two children become engaged first. As for Chloe, we have already made some compensations. In the future, whenever we meet, we will address each other as family and forget about the past."

Pierce looked at Carl.

He saw Carl standing there, looking calm and composed.

A chill ran through Pierce’s heart.

He didn’t know when his cousin had gotten so close to the Elder Group.

Compared to Joe, he was much smarter.

But this couldn’t become a weapon in his hands.

"Third brother, since I became the family leader, everything I’ve done has been for the good of the family, even if it means my own family members have to suffer. I’ve made several concessions, ultimately resulting in Adam being severely injured and becoming half-crippled. Later, my daughter-in-law joined the family, but you worked against her. I tolerated it several times, and you all restrained yourselves on the surface, but behind my back, you went out and took action."

Carl frowned, a little annoyed, "Pierce, you’re wrong to say that. When have we ever attacked your family? You need evidence when making accusations."

"Evidence? You’ve erased every trace already; how am I supposed to find evidence? Regardless of what happened before, I, Pierce, object to today’s decision. The Stephens Family will never form an alliance with the Fisher Family."

"Pierce, you just said that everything was for the family’s benefit, and now you’re opposing the decision. What do you mean by that?"

"I’ve been the family leader for so long, with no merits and great hardships. Don’t I even have the right to object?"

"Your objection is futile. So many people have voted in favor, and you alone cannot represent everyone. As the family leader, you should be more aware of the benefits of an alliance with the Fisher Family. You can’t let the family lose such a huge benefit just because of your granddaughter, can you? We don’t mind having your granddaughter marry into the Fisher Family, but unfortunately, they don’t think highly of her."

Pierce’s eyes grew cold, Carl’s words were nothing but an insult.

"Snap."

Pierce slammed his hand onto the reinforced concrete table. Those sitting at it immediately backed away.

He looked angrily at the people, who looked at him in a mixture of fear and anger.

Carl raised an eyebrow, "Pierce, what are you trying to do?"

Pierce scanned the crowd coldly, "I’ve made my stance clear, as for your decisions, I have no interest."

After saying that, Pierce left.

Carl chuckled in anger, "Just look at him. Ever since he became the family leader, his temper has grown bigger and bigger. The feelings of young people can’t be controlled by us."

Finally, two elders abstained from voting, and everyone else voted in favor.

And so, the decision was made.

Back at Building 2.

Charlotte looked up from the sofa, "How did it go?"

"It’s done."

Pierce’s expression was heavy.

Charlotte frowned, "Carl must have done something behind our backs."

"Let them get married," Pierce sat down on the sofa, "explain everything to Adam tomorrow."

"Adam might resent you for this."

Pierce was unfazed, "If his resentment can make him feel better, then let him have it."

"You father and son, both so stubborn."

"Compared to me, he has grievances about your past actions as well, and it’s been hard for you."

"All for the sake of my son," Charlotte sighed, "Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a cure for his injuries."

"You’ve done your best."

Charlotte was not one to wander outside her home willingly; she had no other choice.

Ever since Adam was injured.

Charlotte had been searching for a remedy to heal him.

The Taylor Family couldn’t help, so she turned her search elsewhere.

In this Earthly Realm, there were people whose medical skills surpassed those of the Taylor Family.

Hidden masters could be found everywhere.

Unfortunately, Charlotte spent years searching but still couldn’t find a cure.

Despite disappointment after disappointment, she persisted in her search.

*

The family sat down to have breakfast, and Charlotte arrived.

Adam was surprised to see her so early.

"Mom, come and sit."

Yvette hurriedly asked someone to join them for breakfast.

"No need, I’ve already eaten."

Adam stood up, "Mom, is something wrong?"

Charlotte glanced at Chloe and Alex, "There is something I need to tell you."

And so Charlotte mentioned what had happened the previous night.

Adam’s face sank inch by inch.

"My third uncle knowingly did this, which is humiliating for Chloe. He’s deliberately picking a fight with us."

"Don’t be impulsive."

Charlotte calmed him down and then looked at Chloe.

The girl silently ate her breakfast, as if she hadn’t heard the conversation just now.

As everyone looked at her, Chloe gracefully put down her chopsticks and wiped her mouth with a tissue, her elegance cold and detached.

"Let them get married."

"Chloe!"

Yvette cried out.

"The Fisher Family won’t last much longer. Ella is somewhat vain and will eventually get into trouble."

Having said that, she stood up and looked at Alex.

Alex also put down his chopsticks and followed Chloe out after saying a few words to Adam.

*

"You said that on purpose just now, right? I know you actually care a lot."

"Do you think I would like someone like Filbert Fisher?"

Alex stood in the wind, looking at the elegant and noble girl. Filbert wasn’t a good match for her at all.

"Indeed, he doesn’t deserve you."

Chloe nodded at him and then got into the car to leave the Stephens house.

At the gate, her car passed by Ella’s car.

Ella nodded slightly to her, and both cars drove in the same direction.

At the red traffic light outside, they stopped next to each other again.

Ella looked at Chloe and rolled down her window.

"Chloe."

Chloe sat quietly in her car, seemingly indifferent to Ella’s voice.

Ella frowned, obviously not liking Chloe’s attitude of ignoring her.

With her pride, she wouldn’t allow someone to disrespect her like this. She knocked on the glass window, "Chloe, I know you can hear me. What is your relationship with that man from the other day?"

Hearing this, Chloe slowly looked over and slid down her window, revealing her cold and beautiful face.
