Chapter 141: Chapter 117: Being a Family Leader, Handling Family Power (Third Update)
In a certain marine area.
Out of the blue, a large platform emerged from the center of the azure sea.
A helicopter landed on the wet parking platform, followed by people quickly walking towards the entrance and boarding the platform, after which the helicopter left the sea surface and the platform slowly descended.
Inside, a person led Ethan Coates deeper in.
"Deputy Coates, you’re here."
"Where’s that kid?"
"Still locked up."
"Damn, those fans are impressive, messing up the network. The people behind him must be really good, still willing to protect him."
Upon hearing this, the person beside him couldn’t help but be a little surprised.
"You mean to release him?"
"Haven’t committed any major crimes, keeping him here would raise objections."
"Is it Team Hawthorne’s idea?"
"His background is rather big, we can keep him locked up, but there would be endless harassment."
What a nuisance.
A team member frowned, cursing, "Lock him up and let his fans make a fuss. Catch one if they make trouble, and a pair if they come together."
"Our Commander Hawthorne is a kind man," Ethan shot a sideways glance at him.
Team member: "..."
If he were truly kind, he wouldn’t have given him a betrothal gift.
While they may release him, there would surely be a contingency plan in place.
*
The iron door was knocked on, and William Coleman suddenly stood up.
Looking through the small glass window, he saw the person outside.
"You’re in luck, kid," Ethan took a look at the person beside him, "Release him."
The team member reluctantly set him free.
William stumbled out, "Are you really going to release me?"
"Why not, don’t you want to leave?"
"But the people before said that I would be locked up until I die."
"Keeping someone like you here would simply be a waste of space. Blindfold his eyes, tie his hands, and take him away."
Ethan had no patience to waste words on him.
William’s hands and eyes were bound, and his ears were plugged.
He was led away without being able to see or hear anything.
All he knew was that he boarded two boats, rode in a car, and boarded a small boat again before being pushed ashore.
The person who released him left without a word.
William struggled to remove the rope tying his hands and the cloth band around his eyes.
*
In the monitoring room.
Ethan stared at the location of the artificial lake."
When William took off his blindfold, he almost jumped out of his skin at the sight before him.
He was standing on a beach in the center of an almost endless artificial lake.
In the lake, thousands of crocodiles were racing towards the only source of food at an incredible speed.
Inside, there were also several highly aggressive large pythons.
Their swimming speed was like a gust of wind.
In an instant, they reached his feet.
William jumped high to avoid their attack.
Feeling chills all over as he gazed at the countless man-eating crocodiles and the large pythons working together for their prey.
Ethan saw William’s reaction and grinned as he dialed Len Hawthorne’s number, "Young Master Hawthorne, good show."
Standing outside the Divinity Temple in the wind, Len said, "It’s up to him to survive. We don’t need to care."
"But what about the matter you mentioned that requires him to verify? How can he check if he’s dead?"
"If he dies, we’ll just have to find another way, those people behind him are helping him, right? Start the investigation from them."
It’s just a little troublesome.
"Then you better be careful," pausing, "Are you sure you don’t need any help?"
Len had already hung up the phone.
Ethan: "..."
He was still planning on discussing the matter involving the Hawthorne family members.
*
Fred Foster came out of the Divinity Temple, seeing Len putting away his mobile phone, and said, "You must have some business to attend to, go ahead, don’t keep me company, an old man like me has been guarding here for decades, I’m used to it."
Len asked, "In the decades you’ve guarded here, have you ever discovered any great anomalies? Like tornadoes or something."
Fred shook his head, "Our Foster Family’s Divinity Temple is just an ordinary temple, there’s no such strange things happening."
Len thought, there must be something the Foster family hasn’t seen.
Len Hawthorne took the ribbon from his pocket and handed it to Fred Foster.
"What is this?"
"Found in the Divinity Temple, it should be yours."
Upon touching the ribbon, Fred noticed that it indeed had a very peculiar texture, feeling cold to the touch – perfect for cooling down in the summer heat.
But Fred shook his head: "I’ve been guarding this place for many years and haven’t found anything like this inside the Divinity Temple. Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?"
"No mistake. It was indeed found inside the Divinity Temple. Here, Elder Foster can keep it."
Accepting the ribbon, Fred’s confusion only deepened.
Len took out a lighter, lit a cigarette, and walked down the path while smoking.
Fred stared at the young man’s tall and handsome figure as he left.
He took the ribbon and went back inside the Divinity Temple.
Since it was said to belong to the Divinity Temple, Fred felt obligated to return it to its rightful place.
After placing the ribbon on the altar, he offered up a stick of incense and prayed.
*
The ribbon did not reappear outside of the temple.
Len tilted his head, his gaze fixed on the direction of the Divinity Temple.
His eyes slightly narrowed.
Was there something binding it within the temple?
Or did it recognize a connection with Foster Family members?
Why?
Len had been very intrigued by a recurring dream he’d been having for the past few days.
In it, he was alone in an ancient, desolate, and crumbling landscape.
The feeling of isolation was all-encompassing.
In a flash, he could see a figure in the sky, and a cold yet soothing voice seemed to call out to him.
He was sure he had never heard that voice before.
The voice in the dream was indistinct, and the person’s features obscured.
Yet, Len couldn’t help but feel a strong desire to look up at the person in the sky.
The vision stopped the moment the mysterious woman began to speak.
He searched for clues to her identity in the dream, but there were none.
Although it was just a fleeting moment, it left a deep impression on him.
Len stubbed out his cigarette underfoot after taking a last puff.
*
Today, Chloe Stephens was heading to see how Hans Foster was doing.
She unexpectedly ran into Riley Downing.
Riley’s stubborn face was set in determination as she stood in Chloe’s way.
"I want to join Sister’s team."
"..."
"If Sister refuses, I’ll kneel right here."
As she said this, she knelt to the ground.
Chloe responded indifferently: "I don’t have a team."
"Then I’ll be the first member of Sister’s team."
"I have no plans to form one."
"Sister, with your skills, don’t you want to build a large team to get things done?"
"I’m not ambitious like that."
Riley: "..."
Chloe walked around her and continued on her way.
Riley ran after her, grabbing Chloe’s sleeve. "I know I’m not strong enough, and Sister doesn’t think highly of me. I understand."
"You’re actually pretty good."
"Really?!" Riley’s eyes lit up with hope.
Chloe pulled away Riley’s hand and continued walking with Riley following behind. "I know Sister is part of the Stephens Family and engaged to my Brother Filbert. So, we’re family."
"I have no intention of getting married."
"I don’t think my Brother Filbert is good enough either, so it’s better not to marry. What about Sister? Don’t you want to become the leader of the Stephens Family? You are Stephens’ legitimate Miss."
"Boring."
"...Everyone wants to be the family leader, wielding power. With Sister’s strength, you could compete."
"No need."
"Then let’s build our own family. I’ll assist Sister in the future! I’ll work hard to grow stronger, help Sister with important matters, and fend off those who want to bully us."
Chloe turned around and stared silently at Riley.
Under Chloe’s gaze, Riley felt her scalp tingle and her heart fill with unease. "Sister?"
