Chapter 358: Chapter 211: Reap What You Sow

A City, Wangu Square.

Chen and the fat bald guy stood by the fountain, waiting for half an hour. It was already the agreed meeting time, yet Chen Feng was still a no-show.

Pressed by the fat bald guy, Chen finally picked up his phone to call Chen Feng, but naturally couldn’t get through. Tried again, same result.

"Can’t get through." Chen said helplessly.

"Send a WeChat message and a text." The fat bald guy ordered with a grim look. He was a big man, who had lived a life of luxury for years, and wouldn’t have personally attended this meeting if it weren’t for this catching the big fish. Standing like a fool with Chen for over half an hour left his feet aching.

Following the suggestion, Chen sent WeChat and text messages to Chen Feng, but after a few minutes, there was no response. He instantly felt something was wrong.

"No reply yet?" The fat bald guy asked, glaring at him.

"Maybe... maybe he’s on his way. Let’s wait a little longer." Chen said, bracing himself.

The fat bald guy gestured to the person in the car by the roadside, and his top henchman and thug got out of the car immediately.

Chen looked at the big guy getting out of the car, feeling fearful as he had been thrown into the car by this guy just like catching a chicken.

"Take him to the hotel to check if that person has checked out and left."

The fat bald guy, being the boss who ran a loan company, was definitely savvy. He immediately thought of the possibility that Chen Feng might’ve left already, instead of foolishly standing around waiting.

The big guy nodded, reached out and locked Chen’s neck, about to head toward the hotel.

Just then, the fat bald guy’s phone dinged. He picked it up and his face changed instantly.

The message was from his brother-in-law, who was his company’s accountant and strategist.

The content was simple: [It’s raining, bring in the laundry]

This was an agreed secret code from way back, signaling the police were coming, and to prepare for escape.

Without saying a word, the fat bald guy quickly got into Chen’s car by the roadside, started it, and drove off.

The scene left the big guy and Chen stunned.

The big guy snapped back and quickly took out his phone to call the fat bald guy.

As the car moved forward, the fat bald guy answered, and before the other could speak, he began: "Listen, immediately take people to the countryside to hide for a while, don’t worry about anything else. Oh, take that person with you."

After saying this, the fat bald guy quickly tossed his phone out the window and accelerated out of the city.

The big guy was stunned for a few seconds, and then resumed clinging to Chen, briskly advancing to the van.

"What are you doing? Not going to the hotel?" Chen anxiously inquired.

"Shut up, careful or I’ll deal with you."

The big guy glared at him fiercely, and Chen immediately shut his mouth obediently.

Soon, they got into the van.

"Brother Xiong! What’s going on? Why did the boss drive away alone?" The people in the car quickly asked the big guy.

"Shut up, Six-finger, remember the road to my hometown? Head to my hometown, now."

Hearing this, everyone felt a chill.

A timid person trembled and asked immediately, "Brother Xiong, what’s going on?"

Brother Xiong glared, swung his hand, and hit him on the head: "Told you to shut up, didn’t you hear?"

The car fell into silence; Brother Xiong, a killer at heart, had always been their leader. When he spoke, they didn’t dare say anything more.

The van quickly started and drove out of the city.

Brother Xiong’s hometown was in a small mountain village in the neighboring city, where most residents had moved away, leaving only some lone elderly people. Even now, cell signal was poor, and tap water was unavailable. Technically, it was already a ghost village.

Hiding there meant the police wouldn’t find them anytime soon.

But this also meant real trouble for Chen.

Though originally uninvolved, he got dragged into it because of his third uncle and now, seeing the gangsters escape, they were taking him along as a hostage.

This might be the best possible outcome; worse scenarios would mean life in danger.

Chen could only silently pray they kept him as a hostage without harming him. If they released him halfway, it would be great, but that chance was slim.

He thought about jumping from the car or escaping, but everyone had weapons, even guns; he truly lacked the courage.

He also considered calling for help when passing the toll station.

The gang seemed to anticipate this, sealing the windows tight and not allowing him near them.

Mainly, they avoided toll stations altogether, choosing old roads with many twists and turns that left him nauseous.

This way, there was no chance to call for help or jump out along the way.

When the car turned onto a mountain road, he lost all hope for escape.

It was a mud and rock road, full of twists and bumps, finally stopping on the hillside after more than an hour.

They got out of the car.

Upon seeing the mountain wooded expanses, one peak after another, tears filled Chen’s eyes, his legs trembling; he seemed to foresee his dire fate.

Two days later, hiding out at a villa in the mountains hundreds of kilometers away, completely cut off from the outside world, the fat bald guy sensed something amiss and drove to town to contact his relatives in A City, only to learn his wife left home a couple of days ago and didn’t return, and no police visited either.

The fat bald guy felt something wrong, quickly called his wife and got no answer, tried calling his brother-in-law with the same result, attempted reaching his henchmen to no avail. Finally, he called his most trusted mistress.

This mistress had borne him a son, living with him for major parts of the year.

After this woman went to the company for on-site checks, he finally confirmed he’d been conned, likely his brother-in-law and wife absconded with company funds.

Furious, he rushed back to A City at maximum speed, first checking his company accounts at the bank, confirming there was not a cent left. While before he maintained a balance of around ten million daily, sometimes reaching thirty to forty million.

And due to receiving nine million from the Chen family a few days ago, the company’s account balance reached over thirty million.

Obviously, it was then his brother-in-law and wife schemed for embezzlement.

As for why his wife was involved, it was simple; legally his wife was the company owner, her name on the company’s bank account. His brother-in-law was the accountant and cashier, making embezzlement incredibly easy.

As for why his wife and brother-in-law would betray him together, mainly it was due to his wife. Married to him for more than twenty years, she’d been with him since her teens, having multiple miscarriages in youth and becoming infertile afterwards.
