Chapter 493: Chapter 493: The Hand That Writes is Valuable

"It’s alright; I’ve always been quick at learning things," Jiang Mianmian said modestly, after all, she did have her cheat codes.

Wang Li: "...You call this ’alright’?!"

He really couldn’t understand why Jiang Mianmian was so modest. If he were as intelligent and literate as she was, he would have boasted to the skies by now.

At home, they would beg for the stars and be content with the moon, snacking on whatever they fancied, buying whatever toys they desired.

With her exceptional intelligence, Jiang Mianmian could barely manage to study four languages at the same time.

But Li Lan was just a child with ordinary intelligence; mastering a foreign language like English was already very challenging for her, so it didn’t take long before she became overwhelmed.

"Mianmian, um, I think I can’t learn so many languages anymore. I keep getting things mixed up; I think I’ll just focus on English," Li Lan said, downhearted. "I’m too stupid."

Jiang Mianmian comforted her: "Sister Lanlan, you’re not stupid. It’s just that everyone excels at different things. I envy your talent for drawing."

"Really?" Li Lan perked up upon hearing that.

Jiang Mianmian replied with certainty, "Really!"

And so, Li Lan was no longer disheartened and became completely joyful: "Then I’ll draw you a picture right now. What do you like?"

"Sunflowers, I guess. They’re pretty nice."

The next day was Saturday, and it was Jiang Changhai’s day off. Wang Li and Li Lan knew Jiang Mianmian’s family was heading back to the village, so they didn’t go to their house to study.

It had rained two days prior, so the weather these past few days hadn’t been too stuffy. Remembering what his second son had mentioned about the ginseng, Jiang Changhai took his family back to the village.

As the family of three entered the village, the villagers surrounded them with warm enthusiasm.

"Mianmian, I heard you went to the Capital City a few days ago? How many days were you there for? What do the people there look like? Are they all tall and well-built?"

The villagers, seeing that Yu Cheng at only thirteen or fourteen years of age was almost as tall as the seventeen or eighteen-year-olds from Stone Bridge Village, assumed that people from the Capital City must be taller and stronger than them.

"Yeah, I went to the Capital City for about twenty days. People there are indeed taller and bigger than us here..." Jiang Mianmian answered as she was being escorted by the villagers back to the Jiang Family’s home: "Grandpa and Grandma, we’re back."

Zhang Guihua was busy working in the yard when she saw Jiang Mianmian return and greeted her with joy.

"Mianmian is here! Grandma has missed you so much. Come inside quickly; it’s hot outside," Zhang Guihua said, taking Jiang Mianmian’s little hand and leading her toward the house.

Jiang Dashan, who was watering the fields, also smiled and waved her over: "Come here, Mianmian, come to Grandpa."

When Jiang Mianmian walked over, he plucked a few tender cucumbers and some ripe tomatoes from the ground and stuffed them into her hands: "Let your Grandma wash them for you to eat."

"Thank you, Grandpa," Jiang Mianmian politely thanked him, planning to wash them herself.

But Zhang Guihua quickly snatched them away: "Grandma will wash them for you. Your hands that write are too precious; you need to take good care of them."

Watching her grandma’s bustling figure, Jiang Mianmian couldn’t help but feel a mix of laughter and tears. She really didn’t think her hands were that precious.

Zhang Guihua insisted on using clean water from the well to wash them before giving them to Jiang Mianmian: "Here, my dear granddaughter, eat."

"Thank you, Grandma," Jiang Mianmian said, taking a small tomato and biting into it.

Cool and refreshing, the burst of sour and sweet was incredibly thirst-quenching.

Jiang Changhai also unreservedly took two tomatoes, giving one to his wife and quickly eating one himself.

After eating, he reached for more but Zhang Guihua ruthlessly swatted his hand away: "These are for Mianmian to eat!"
