Chapter 405: Chapter 282: Hold Tight

Tang Xi looked at the latest model Apple phone handed to her and glanced at Fu Tingzhou before accepting it. Was he bringing her here to buy a phone?

She hurriedly said, "There’s no need to buy something so good."

"You’re my personal assistant. Don’t embarrass me with a cheap, shabby phone that can barely handle two calls without freezing. That would delay my work," he retorted.

Fu Tingzhou paid for the phone, then took her to get a SIM card replacement.

They needed to queue up for the SIM card replacement.

Tang Xi didn’t expect that they would be taking numbers past thirty or forty.

Even she was getting a little impatient waiting.

With so many people, it began to feel stuffy.

And that only added to her frustration.

As she queued, she looked back at Fu Tingzhou, who had disappeared without her noticing. Tang Xi thought it made sense; why would he wait in line with her?

Bringing her here to get a SIM card was already a change of character for him.

When it was finally her turn, it was around ten in the morning.

After she got her card replaced and turned on the phone, she saw countless messages.

Especially from Si Ruoli and Gu Zhiyi, plus a few from Gao Jianlin and colleagues, and some from Shangguan Nanxian.

Her eyes welled up with tears.

So many people were concerned about her when they thought she went missing.

A wave of warmth filled Tang Xi’s heart.

She immediately composed several messages to send out.

Telling her friends she was fine.

Right after, Gu Zhiyi’s call came through.

The moment she answered, Gu Zhiyi’s anxious voice came through. "Tang Xi, is that really you? Are you okay? Where have you been during this time? Ruoli and I have been looking everywhere for you."

"I’m alright, sorry for worrying you," Tang Xi replied. "I’m fine now, but it’s not easy to explain what happened these past few days in just a few words. Let’s get together later, I’ll go to Ruoli’s boutique, and we can meet there."

"Okay."

With a firm grip on her phone, Tang Xi prepared to leave the business hall.

Suddenly, she caught sight of a figure sitting on a rest chair not far away.

The man sat leisurely, his tall stature and long legs making the small space seem even more cramped. His legs stretched out, unable to find a proper place to rest.

Fu Tingzhou sat with his eyes closed, seemingly resting on the chair for a short while.

Tang Xi thought she was hallucinating.

She took a few steps until she was in front of him.

Had he, actually, fallen asleep right here?

He didn’t leave?

Tang Xi had assumed he’d have grown impatient and left after dropping her off for the SIM card replacement.

"Uh... Fu Tingzhou," she softly called out.

The place was noisy, constantly bustling with people.

It was rare for someone to fall asleep in such a public setting.

Tang Xi noticed the deep weariness in the man’s brows and eyes.

It suddenly occurred to her that perhaps he hadn’t been resting well, ever since rushing over in the middle of the night. Because she went missing?

No—

She quickly shook her head to dispel the thought.

Tang Xi, Tang Xi, how ridiculous of you, to entertain such a preposterous idea?

Suddenly, Fu Tingzhou opened his eyes.

His eyes were filled with fatigue, but after a few seconds, he regained his usual aloof clarity. He stood up, glanced at his watch, and said, "Let’s go."

Tang Xi followed behind him.

"I can... I want to meet some friends. I was kidnapped, and my friends are worried about me. Could you give me a couple of days to sort things out? Oh, and I need to hand over my duties at the hospital before I start assisting you..." she said.

Fu Tingzhou frowned slightly.

Worried he might refuse, Tang Xi hurriedly added, "One day, even one day would be enough."

"Two days. Settle your affairs," he allowed.

With her new SIM card and phone, things were much more convenient for Tang Xi.

She took a taxi back to the Xingfu Wutong District to carry out her move-out procedures with the landlord and then packed up her and Tangtang’s belongings.

Su Wenhe was also there, packing up her things.

Su Wenhe was genuinely happy for her. "Since that man is Tangtang’s father, you two should get along well. You’ve been missing these past few days, and he’s been looking for you the whole time; he seems to care a lot about you. He’s even kind to Tangtang, taking all her needs to heart despite his indifferent appearance."

Tang Xi couldn’t find the words to explain her conflicts with Fu Tingzhou to Su Wenhe, so she simply went along with it.

"Auntie Wenhe, if you ever want to see Tangtang, just call me. I’ll bring her over on the weekends to spend time with you and visit you at your place."

"Sure, I’ll miss Tangtang too. As long as you and Tangtang are happy, that’s what matters."
