Chapter 247: Chapter 189: I didn’t do anything absurd while drunk, did I...

Auntie Su said she would stay for the night to take care of Tangtang, and Tang Xi expressed her gratitude. She had no idea when Su Yiqian’s birthday party would end.

Leaving in the middle of the event would seem somewhat impolite.

A wealthy young man approached and handed a glass of wine to Tang Xi, but she shook her head, "Sorry, I don’t drink."

"Why don’t you have some? It’s just one glass. Having a drink for my sake will ensure you have a great time," said the young man, reeking of alcohol, obviously drunk, with dark circles under his eyes, giving off the air of someone who had indulged in excesses.

Tang Xi frowned, "Sorry, I don’t drink."

"Can’t appreciate kindness, can you? Our Young Master Chen tells you to drink, and you dare refuse?" Another young man stumbled over, enveloped in the stench of alcohol.

The private room was already chaotic by now, with many people stumbling and staggering.

Some were singing, others were playing cards at a table.

Tang Xi wasn’t fond of lively gatherings, so she sat alone on the sofa waiting for the party to disperse.

She looked at the two young men in front of her and helplessly raised her hand to rub her forehead.

"Drink up, and this wristwatch is yours," said one of the young men as he took off his watch and tossed it at Tang Xi.

Tang Xi didn’t move, and the watch fell to the floor.

She simply raised her eyebrows with disdain. She despised the way these rich people mocked commoners from their high horses, expecting them to do whatever they demanded as if they were bestowing favors!

"Dammit, who are you trying to impress? There’s no woman I, Chen Yucheng, fancy who dares refuse me," said the young man, seemingly enraged by Tang Xi’s disregard. Drunk and prodded by the other unwieldy guests, he attempted to force the glass of wine into Tang Xi’s mouth.

Men are strong, and Tang Xi struggled to resist for a moment.

She coughed a few times, choked by the spicy alcohol.

Just then, a hand forcefully pulled Chen Yucheng away. Gao Jianlin stood in front of Tang Xi, his brow furrowed, voice cold, "Young Master Chen, if you want to go crazy, do it somewhere else."

"Oh, look who it is! It’s Gao Jianlin, that unappreciated bastard of the Gao Family, talking big in front of me. It’s none of your damn business who I hit on—get lost!"

Gao Jianlin furrowed his brow, and delivered a punch straight to the other man’s face.

Chen Yucheng howled in pain, "Damn, you dare hit me!"

However, that punch sobered up Chen Yucheng a bit, and realizing this was Su Yiqian’s birthday party, he didn’t want to make too much of a scene. He mumbled vaguely, "I... I drank too much, my apologies to you, madam doctor."

He walked away, rubbing his painful face.

Gao Jianlin turned around and glanced at Tang Xi, "Dr. Tang, are you okay?"

Tang Xi shook her head, "I’m fine, thank you."

She wore a white blouse, now stained with spilled liquor across the chest, faintly revealing the outline of a light-pink bra underneath.

Her face turned red as she covered her chest and looked down.

The next second, a black jacket was handed to her. Tang Xi paused, then raised her eyes to look at Gao Jianlin.

Gao Jianlin turned sideways, not looking at her, but the tips of his ears were red.

"Put it on, I’ll take you away from here."

Tang Xi didn’t hesitate, knowing she needed the jacket, and said softly, "Thank... thank you."

Tang Xi stood up, "You... If we leave now, wouldn’t it be inappropriate? Should we say goodbye to Su Yiqian first?"

Gao Jianlin walked ahead, "No need, just look at them, they’re all a mess."

Tang Xi put on the man’s jacket, feeling the lingering warmth and a mix of Gao Jianlin’s refreshing mint and alcohol scent.

The heat seemed to burn Tang Xi’s cheeks even redder.

She reached out to help Wen Ruomian, who was lying nearby, drunk, "Ruomian, let’s go, Dr. Gao will take us home."

Wen Ruomian stumbled to her feet, squinting her eyes, "Tang Xi... Is the party over?"

Tang Xi helped her walk out, "Who let you drink so much? If you can’t handle alcohol, drink less. Look at you now."

"Ah, isn’t tomorrow the weekend?..." Wen Ruomian let out a hiccup from drinking, "Had a rare day off with some colleagues from the department, drank a tad more."

Stepping out of the entertainment city, the evening breeze blew, reviving Wen Ruomian a little.

Her drunkenness faded somewhat, she looked surprised to see Gao Jianlin’s car stopped beside her, "Doctor Gao, you’re giving us a ride."

Gao Jianlin nodded, "Get in."

-

Gao Jianlin first dropped Wen Ruomian off at her home, then Tang Xi.

The car wasn’t moving fast the whole way.

Tang Xi was feeling drowsy, she curled up in her seat, her head against the car window, looking sleepily out of sorts.

Seeing this, Gao Jianlin put on a gentle and soothing song.

Tang Xi was indeed tired and closed her eyes.

The car came to a red light, and the man stopped.

Gao Jianlin looked back and glanced at Tang Xi, who was sleeping peacefully in the back seat. He stared at her sleeping face, and couldn’t help but slightly curve his lips.

He picked up his phone, aimed it at Tang Xi’s face, and gently pressed the capture button.

Just then, Gao Jianlin’s phone rang.

He quickly pressed the mute button.

Seeing it was a call from ’Gao Chengxiong’, he still answered.

"Dad, what’s the matter?"

"Next week, someone from the Fu Group in North City is coming to the island to discuss tourism investments. You and your second brother will attend the meeting together."

Gao Jianlin frowned, "Dad, I’m just an ordinary doctor right now."

He looked up at the rearview mirror, saw that Tang Xi was still asleep, and lowered his voice, "Dad, I don’t want to get involved in the company’s business. I... I’m not interested in business affairs; I just want to be a doctor."

On the other end, Gao Chengxiong seemed to sigh and scolded him for a few words.

Gao Jianlin’s expression remained unchanged. The green light came on, and the cars behind urged him. Gao Jianlin hung up the phone and drove off.

After crossing the street, Gao Jianlin suddenly realized Tang Xi had not given him her home address. He pulled over to the roadside, turned to look at Tang Xi intending to wake her.

But seeing how soundly Tang Xi was sleeping, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

The man’s gaze gradually softened.

-

The next morning.

Tang Xi opened her eyes, and subconsciously called out, "Tangtang."

Without hearing a response, she looked at the unfamiliar surroundings, stunned for a moment.

Sitting up, Tang Xi examined the environment around her more closely—the decoration was upscale, designed in an original wood style, a very spacious bedroom indeed.

Obviously, this was not her home.

Getting out of bed and lifting the covers, she saw her clothes were intact, and breathed a sigh of relief.

Where is this?

How did she end up here?

Walking out of the bedroom, she saw Gao Jianlin in the living room, and her scalp tingled for a moment. Don’t tell me, Tang Xi, last night while drunk you didn’t do anything absurd...

How come I’m in... Gao Jianlin’s house...
