Chapter 245 - 187: Fu Yunye
Chapter 245: Chapter 187: Fu Yunye
Two years ago, Tang Xi was working the night shift in the emergency room; it was then Yun Ye was brought in, unconscious, by his nanny Xiao Gu, and taken in by Tang Xi.
Yun Ye had an acute food allergy, needed his stomach pumped and fluids administered, and only woke up the next day.
Tang Xi is a doctor; curing the sick and saving lives is her duty.
The second time Tang Xi met Yun Ye was in the Neurology Department.
Though the medical facilities on the island are quite decent, there is inevitably a shortage of medical staff, as it is only an island. Tang Xi typically rotates through one emergency shift, one outpatient clinic shift every week, and spends the remaining time in neurology.
Originally specializing in clinical medicine, Tang Xi later followed Zhang Tinghua into thoracic surgery, and now she’s in neurology. Over these years, she has grown accustomed to her work here.
Yun Ye has some psychological issues, suffering from neurasthenia, insomnia with frequent dreams, and poor mental state. After several treatments at the hospital with Tang Xi seeing him each time, they became familiar with one another.
Gradually, Tang Xi came to understand this somewhat peculiar man.
All she knew was that he seemed very wealthy, settled here temporarily for a holiday, to relax, to recover.
Due to an early life car accident, he was bound to live out his life in a wheelchair. He showed signs of depression, at times volatile, other times indifferent. He preferred solitude, loved to draw – sketches, simple strokes, watercolors, and Chinese painting, he knew them all.
Tang Xi bent down to pick up some discarded papers off the floor, glanced at them – they were women’s sketches, to be precise, faceless, only the body shape and hairstyle defined, the facial features left blank.
As Yun Ye’s attending physician, Tang Xi naturally also learned about Yun Ye’s family situation through the nanny Xiao Gu.
It seemed he had a wife, but their relationship was not harmonious.
At that moment, Xiao Gu knocked and entered, carrying a tea tray with water on it, which Tang Xi took as she signaled for Xiao Gu to leave with a look.
"Mr. Yun, have you felt any discomfort lately? Headaches or dizziness? Followed by chest tightness, shortness of breath, or a sense of urgency?"
Yun Ye had long, slender fingers, unnaturally pale from his lack of outdoor activity.
His hands, like exquisite pieces of art.
Fine white jade porcelain.
Yun Ye spoke, "I’m fine. I just want to draw. Xiao Gu called you because she’s too anxious."
Tang Xi sat down on a chair to the side, "I’ll be in the clinic this Friday. Have Xiao Gu accompany you for a visit. I’ll give you a thorough checkup."
Yun Ye lifted his gaze, his pale eyes swept across Tang Xi’s face, and as he observed her fair and delicate features, Yun Ye said, "Stay seated and don’t move."
Tang Xi blinked, "Ah?"
But she sat still as Yun Ye had requested.
Yun Ye turned his wheelchair around, facing Tang Xi with a drawing board set up. His pencil scratched the paper with a rasping sound; he was very focused, his gaze entirely on his sketch.
Tang Xi realized, was he drawing her?
Maintaining the same pose for about 20 minutes, Yun Ye paused his pencil stroke. Tang Xi exhaled and relaxed her shoulders and neck, eagerly walking over to Yun Ye’s side to look at the drawing board.
It was a quick sketch.
In stark black and white, the lines outlined Tang Xi’s figure and face.
Tang Xi admired, "This looks so much like me. Mr. Yun, may I have this drawing?"
"It’s a portrait of you, take it," Yun Ye said as he took out the drawing paper, tied it with a red silk ribbon, and handed it to Tang Xi, who accepted it with a smile. "Thank you, Mr. Yun. It’s still early, let me take you out for a stroll around the neighborhood, get some sun."
Yun Ye did not decline.
Tang Xi quickly took action, fearful that he would change his mind.
She received the money, and also the painting that the person had drawn for her; naturally, she couldn’t be negligent towards him.
Every month, Yun Ye would come for a follow-up consultation, almost always during Tang Xi’s clinic hours. He was a very reserved person with some quirks. He disliked going to hospitals and detested interacting with strangers.
Even the nanny, Xiao Gu, had come from his hometown to take care of him.
Therefore, once he had decided on Tang Xi as his primary physician, he continued to seek treatment from her.
Xiao Gu carried a coat and followed behind while Tang Xi pushed the wheelchair in front, vaguely sensing that Mr. Yun must be quite wealthy since even this wheelchair was high-tech.
Previously, Tang Shiyue had called her because Tang Jingyun had an accidental fall and had trouble moving her legs. Tang Shiyue mentioned wanting to buy a wheelchair for Tang Jingyun, and having casually searched for such high-tech wheelchairs, she heard they required customization and cost a few hundred thousand.
Tang Xi pushed Yun Ye’s wheelchair for a stroll in the residential community’s garden.
The island enjoyed a spring-like climate all year round, with fresh air carrying a hint of sea breeze.
The temperature was pleasant.
In the garden, several kids were happily playing soccer.
Suddenly, a soccer ball flew in their direction.
Seeing that it was about to hit Yun Ye, Tang Xi immediately stood in front of him. The ball struck her back forcefully, causing the woman’s face to pale as she bit her lip.
Yun Ye looked at her, momentarily stunned.
Xiao Gu quickly ran over with concern, "Dr. Tang, are you alright? Did you get hurt?"
Just then, several rambunctious kids came running for the ball. With a darkened expression, Xiao Gu scolded, "What’s the matter with you kids? You almost hurt someone!"
The rambunctious kids, now frightened, hastily apologized to Tang Xi.
Tang Xi shook her head, "It’s okay, they are just children, and it wasn’t intentional."
Tang Xi tousled a boy’s hair, "Go play, but be more careful next time."
Yun Ye observed the woman’s pale face and frowned slightly, "Did you get hurt anywhere?"
Tang Xi smiled lightly and shook her head, "No."
Yun Ye softly lowered his gaze and couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, "Why... why did you step in front of me just now?"
Tang Xi replied, "I’m a doctor, you’re a patient. It’s my duty to protect you."
Yun Ye looked up at her, staring at her face, observing her emotions. She was smiling kindly, sincerity in her eyes. But Yun Ye’s heart wasn’t comfortable with her answer.
He didn’t like Tang Xi’s response just now.
Yun Ye said, "It’s getting late. You should go back; don’t delay your afternoon work."
A slight breeze picked up, and Yun Ye, who was physically frail and more susceptible to the cold than most, felt the chill. Tang Xi took the coat from Xiao Gu and placed it over Yun Ye’s knees, "Alright, I’ll head to work then. Thank you for the painting, Mr. Yun."
After watching Tang Xi leave, Yun Ye said to Xiao Gu, "I want to be alone here for a while, in peace."
Xiao Gu nodded and retreated to a distance five meters away.
About half an hour later, Yun Ye spoke up, "Call Ji Qingtan, and tell her, I hope she keeps her word and stays as far away from me as possible!"
Xiao Gu was taken aback, "Sir, don’t be angry with madam."
Yun Ye snorted coldly, "Isn’t she fond of my younger brother? It’s nice to have some peace and quiet for myself for a while, so she should stop pestering me."
Xiao Gu hesitated, "But... but if the old master finds out, it’s going to cause..."
Yun Ye lowered his eyes calmly, with a light breeze gently blowing, causing his pant legs to flutter. His hoarse voice carried a tremble, "A cripple like me is hardly worth worrying about by the old man."
