After Being Sold Out By The Empire, I Decide To Assist The Demon King -
Chapter 73 - 72 Isabella’s Letter
Chapter 73: Chapter 72 Isabella’s Letter
"The construction of the trade caravan should be primarily based on trade ships, supplemented by trade teams. The trade ships would conduct point-to-point trading, achieving stable trade with multiple fleets, multiple commodities, fewer routes, and fewer accidents."
Yila said this as he discussed the trade teams with the ghost glasses girl named Youyou. He subtly glanced at the other leaders who were holding a party to celebrate the return of the sea demons.
*A bit too enthusiastic.*
*With such enthusiasm, it feels as if the sea demons were returning gloriously rather than being driven back by me. But, looking at it now, it doesn’t actually make much difference. It’s merely a matter of how much trust there is.*
Satan Ye, that fool, would surely trust the sea demons wholeheartedly. After all, she was Satan Ye.
"The trade teams should be composed of one large team, one trade, and one route, forming a route from the Demon King Territory to the Beastman Country, to the Silver Moon Tree Court, to the Dwarf Country, and then back through the Duchy, across the mountains, returning to the Beastman Country and then back."
Yila presented his opinion to the recording glasses girl in front of him, explaining his reasoning. He said, "This way, enough combat strength can be included to ensure the caravan will not encounter accidents on the road."
Of course, saying "enough" combat strength actually meant that a small team of Black Knights would be sufficient to handle most incidents.
"So, the trade team’s composition will be managed by the little demons... If there are robbers or pillagers on the road, the little demons can engage in combat training."
Youyou said as she lightly pushed her glasses up and glanced at the partying leaders... That side was very noisy, completely out of place with the serious business discussion here.
Realizing that no one was watching, Youyou reached into her small bag and took out a small square piece of parchment folded lightly into four... actually, it was paper. She handed it to Yila and said, "Here, I didn’t tell anyone."
"Hmm?"
Yila made a puzzled sound as he instinctively took the paper. Recognizing it, he asked curiously, "Magic paper? What do you mean by not telling..."
Halfway through his sentence, Yila paused, speechless, as he looked at the elegant handwriting on the paper... Although he hadn’t intended to hide himself, it was still too quick for Isabella to discover him in the Demon King Territory.
*Have you been looking for me all this time? But if you want me to return, I won’t.*
Yila thought as he reluctantly began reading the words on the magic paper... He hoped not to see too many laments. If Isabella filled it with pleas, he would be at a loss for what to do.
*He was easily moved by requests and also easily taken advantage of.*
"Lord Yila, this piece of paper is not large, so please allow this unworthy student to communicate with you informally. However, as per royal etiquette, I maintain my royal manners, so there’s no need for more words or corrections."
*It seems Isabella harbored deep resentment towards me... Sorry, if we had another chance, I might teach you more gently, but it’s too late now.*
Thinking this, Yila continued reading...
"When you receive this paper, I will be diligently following your suggestions. As you expected, the Duke is significantly resistant to this policy... Also, I feel sorry for your departure caused by the malicious interpretation of my orders."
"However, after losing you, the nobles have become easier to control. It’s just that without you by my side, I feel somewhat unaccustomed... But I don’t necessarily need you. I am already a competent ruler."
"Therefore, there’s no need for you to return. I believe you’ll live a better life outside the empire. The nobles of the empire are not worthy of the benefits you bring them. If there’s anything I don’t understand, I will ask you through the paper."
"Lord Yila, you don’t need to reply; save this piece of paper. I will become a ruler capable of handling everything on my own, so after this paper is used up, please don’t pity me anymore."
"If there comes a day when we are adversaries, please do not hold back... Even though I hope it won’t come to that, I still look forward to you tearing apart my dignity."
"Or vice versa."
"..."
"She said to save the paper, but she’s already used quite a bit."
"Isabella must be exhausted."
Yila shook his head in contemplation after finishing Isabella’s words. Casually commenting, he said, "Before, I worked twenty hours a day and still couldn’t handle all the empire’s affairs. Isabella must be even more exhausted, perhaps not even getting a proper rest."
In response to Yila’s words, Youyou, clueless about Yila and Isabella’s strange relationship, didn’t know how to continue the conversation... Completely unperturbed Yila, along with Isabella saying she’d seek Yila’s guidance through magic paper.
Though they appeared as friends, they ended with a declaration of war; as enemies, their relationship was unusually congenial; as mentor and student, they stood on different sides.
"You don’t understand, do you? Neither do I."
Hearing the voice from beside her, Youyou glanced at Vera, who spoke suddenly. Nodding her head to indicate she didn’t understand, she still handed a pen to Yila, asking, "So, Mr. Yila, if Isabella sought your guidance, would you assist her?"
"He undoubtedly would~ Furthermore, if they did engage in battle, they would fight each other until one surrendered."
As Vera said this, Yila took the pen from Youyou, writing a brief word in a font similar to Isabella’s on the magic paper: "Okay."
This word would be transmitted to the matching piece of magic paper on Isabella’s end.
"Why not?"
Yila said as he returned the pen to Youyou. He added something incomprehensible, "If Isabella sought my advice on everything, she would merely become another me. Actually, she already almost is."
"..."
"..."
While others indeed couldn’t understand, Vera wanted to know a bit more. Seriously, she asked Yila, "If one day the empire and the Demon King Territory went to war again, and Isabella asked you how the empire could win, what would you say?"
Yila: "Isabella wouldn’t ask. She wants to prove herself to me, so she would only ask about the empire’s chances of winning."
Youyou, curious about Yila’s response, asked in Vera’s understanding glance, "So, Mr. Yila, if you told her ’The empire could not possibly win,’ then what?"
Even Vera, having once been Isabella’s teacher, understood this point as she had primarily taught Isabella magic.
"Isabella would surrender because she trusted Yila the most... And Yila wouldn’t lie."
Yila nodded in agreement to Vera’s statement.
...
Youyou: *This mentor-student, this former sovereign-subject relationship is so twisted it makes my stomach hurt! Completely incomprehensible, normal intelligent beings can’t understand it! I feel like banging my head against the wall!*
