Chapter 677: Chapter 667: Underground Space

A door appeared at the end of the stairs.

However, upon getting closer, it was found that the door was painted on.

Knocking on it produced a dull sound, clearly indicating it was solid.

In a fit of anger, Chang Fu couldn’t help but give it a kick.

"What the hell!"

"Calm down."

Shen Yunqing patted his shoulder and shone the flashlight around.

The stairs couldn’t just exist without reason; there must be a door here leading to the destination.

The owner knows it, and they have to find it.

Chang Fu took a deep breath to calm himself down, squatting down to feel every inch under his feet.

This time, he had to find that door!

But the ground was still solid earth beneath him; not to mention any trace of a door, he couldn’t even find a crack, and his hands turned black from the dirt.

Eventually, he had to give up with resignation, "Boss, there’s nothing underneath either."

"Don’t worry." Shen Yunqing sensed the growing restless emotions nearby, "The more mysterious it is, the more important the things inside might be."

"Besides, Wu Jue can’t get out anytime soon, and we’ve only spent so little time."

As for the possibility that Wu Jue fell into a trap set by Wu Hua before her death, suffering severe injuries, or even death, Shen Yunqing didn’t even consider it.

That person wouldn’t be that weak.

It must have been something that truly tripped him up.

Chang Fu thought that makes sense, and his restless emotions subsided considerably.

While the two of them were still searching for the door, outside, Jiang Lingxi was watching the image that occasionally lagged on the tablet screen, also carefully examining for any clues illuminated by the flashlight.

They had been searching for almost ten minutes when Jiang Lingxi closed her eyes, feeling the patience running thin herself just as with Chang Fu.

"Try the stairs."

Jiang Lingxi turned to look at Yin Chong, who was standing quietly a few positions away and had remained silent.

She quickly understood what he meant.

"Return to the stairs and check the walls on either side of the stairway."

Watching Shen Yunqing and Chang Fu comply, Jiang Lingxi looked back at Yin Chong again.

The fact that he actually offered advice surprised her quite a bit.

Yin Chong gave a wry smile at being looked at, "Wu Hua is just as mysterious in my heart, and I also want to see what exactly she hid."

The speaker on the tablet emitted intermittent knocking sounds.

Not only were the two people knocking on the left and right listsenting carefully, but those who stayed outside were also concentrating on helping to listen.

Dull, dull, still dull...

"Wait!"

Just as Jiang Lingxi spoke, Shen Yunqing’s action of knocking against the wall halted simultaneously.

"Thud thud!"

Chang Fu turned his head and looked over, eyes shining, "It’s hollow!"

Following the spot where the hollow sound was heard, they continued groping for a moment, brushing away the dust on the surface, finally revealing a hidden door.

"Looking at it this way, Master and Zhang Ying probably didn’t enter from here."

Shen Yunqing and Jiang Lingxi spoke almost simultaneously: "Open it first."

No matter where they entered from, since this door was hidden away, there must be something inside.

This door, however, had neither a keyhole nor a mechanism. After estimating the thickness of the door, Chang Fu simply elbowed it, making a hole, and the wooden door shakily fell over.

A gust of damp and cool wind immediately blew through the empty doorway, making the two standing before it squint their eyes.

Chang Fu sniffed, "It doesn’t stink, and there’s even a bit of fragrance."

Before he could finish speaking, a wet wipe was flung onto his face, the disinfectant alcohol smell rushing straight to his forehead.

Realizing the situation, Chang Fu’s expression turned pale, "Thank you, Boss."

In this damp, sunless underground, the smell would typically be musty and rotten, so how could there be a fragrance!

He didn’t realize that this fragrance might be problematic.

"Be cautious. Otherwise, we should go back."

Chang Fu quickly nodded like pounding garlic.

"Boss, let me go in and check first."

Saying so, he shone the light around inside the door before slowly sliding a foot in.

Seeing him being overly cautious compared to before, Shen Yunqing said nothing more, as this was better than being rash.

Upon entering the door hidden in the middle of the stairs, they found another staircase leading downwards.

Chang Fu was speechless, "Could there be stairs everywhere down here, what on earth did Wu Hua hide in there?"

As Jiang Lingxi watched the two of them cover their noses and head down the stairs, just about to ask what it smelled like, the screen flickered twice before abruptly turning black.

No signal!

This also indicated they had entered the real door.

The staircase spiraled downward, and Shen Yunqing, hearing no sound transmitted from the ground, knew their current location had no signal.

He had a hunch that Wu Jue and Zhang Ying were below.

Upon descending the last flight of stairs, the sound of drawing a sharp breath came from ahead.

"Boss..."

Chang Fu didn’t know how to describe it.

He had suspected that there might be some trap below, potentially ensnaring Master and Zhang Ying.

But he never expected to see a row of coffins underground.

"This, this, this... hiding dead bodies under the house, what sort of hobby is this?"

"They may not necessarily be dead."

Shen Yunqing listened closely, and besides the faint sound of wind, there was the slow drip of water and very soft breathing.

He spoke while moving towards the nearest coffin to investigate whether he was hearing wrong.

Chang Fu rubbed his goosebumps-covered arms and shuffled his feet along.

Upon closer inspection, the coffin wasn’t closed.

Inside lay a young girl looking about ten years old, arms crossed over her belly, her face rosy and vibrant, her chest gently rising and falling upon closer scrutiny.

Chang Fu cautiously extended a finger to her nose, "She’s really alive!"

Counting, there were six coffins in total, four of which contained people, approximately the same age as the first, three girls and one boy, appearing not asleep, but rather in hibernation.

Confirming one after another they were all alive and well, Chang Fu sighed with relief, "Luckily, their vital signs are stable."

No one expected to find people hidden in such a place; if they had arrived a few days later, it might have been too late.

Turning around, he saw his boss standing between two empty coffins without moving, "Boss?"

Shen Yunqing: "These two empty coffins, there were likely people in them before."

Chang Fu felt the hairs on his neck stand up again, "Could Master and Zhang Ying be chasing after the other two?"

"Let’s go further inside."

Shen Yunqing pointed his flashlight into the dark ahead; the underground space was significantly larger than the wooden house above, with some winding stone caves visible in the flashlight beam.

"Careful with the water on the ground."

"Oh, oh, oh."

Even though they were warned to be careful, the ground was covered in moss, and Chang Fu accidentally slipped after only a few steps, falling onto his backside. As he was about to stand up, supporting himself with his unused hand, he suddenly froze.

He didn’t know what he pressed, but the screen lit up briefly before going dark again.

"Have you found something?"

At that moment, Chang Fu didn’t bother getting up but first grabbed the object beneath his hand, "It’s Zhang Ying’s phone; it seems to have shut down from water damage."
