Chapter 52: Shoot Oneself in the Foot
Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Shoot Oneself in the Foot
Ye Li walked out of the mall to find a Maybach already waiting for her at the roadside.
In front of the passenger-side door, Fu Yanci stood quietly, as if watching the children chasing and frolicking in the square.
Glancing back, Ye Li’s gaze flickered with understanding; she realized.
Fu Yanci must be missing his son!
Xiao Bao!!!
As if with a chime, the despondent sky instantly cleared. Ye Li rushed forward and tugged at Fu Yanci’s sleeve, "Are you missing Xiao Bao? Let’s go to the Fu Mansion to see him, or we can bring him home."
Having a child at home can always divert attention.
She and he wouldn’t be so awkward, would they?
Fu Yanci’s eyebrows raised slightly.
When the girl came out of the mall, her face was full of gloom and listlessness; he glanced back at the candied hawthorns at the corner of the street, hesitating whether to buy some for her, and she brightened up?
Alright then...
Fu Yanci nodded, opened the passenger door for Ye Li to get in, and then went around to get into the driver’s seat.
The car headed straight for the Fu Mansion.
It seemed Old Mrs. Fu had not expected Fu Yanci and Ye Li to visit; at the dining table, she looked at her grandson with smiling eyes, then at the well-behaved and cute Ye Li, and laughed heartily, adding another half bowl of rice for herself.
Sure enough, getting married does make a difference!
"Grandmother, we’ll be leaving soon. Xiao Bao will come back with us."
Fu Yanci’s gaze slid over Ye Li, and he looked up to Old Mrs. Fu, "Ah Li will take good care of him!"
!!!
I wanted to say I have to go to school; I don’t even live at home, when do I have time to take care of him?
And, he doesn’t even pay attention to me, okay?
A stepmother and a stepson, such a sensitive relationship, maybe we shouldn’t...
Ye Li blinked in distress, then saw Fu Yanci speak gently, "Grandmother, today it was Ah Li who suggested coming to see you and taking Xiao Bao home. Rest assured!"
"I knew it."
Old Mrs. Fu looked at Ye Li with gratified eyes, "Grandmother will never misjudge a person!"
Ye Li: ...
Isn’t this like shooting myself in the foot?
It was pitch dark outside when Fu Yanci left the house, one hand holding Ye Li’s, the other holding Xiao Bao’s.
Ye Li was also deprived of the privilege of sitting in the front passenger seat.
Fu Yanci directly opened the rear car door, "Sit in the back with Xiao Bao."
"Oh."
Ye Li obediently got into the car.
As the car drove through the quiet night, the cabin was serene.
She wanted to talk to Fu Yanci, but feared the child, with his keen mind, would feel she was deliberately neglecting him.
Wanting to talk to Xiao Bao, Ye Li didn’t know where to start.
Her inner conflict was plainly written on her face.
Ye Li was the best at taking care of children; during holidays, the Ye Mansion was filled with relatives and friends from the Imperial City’s rich families.
Older children acted mature and gathered to discuss which car was coolest or which school had the most beautiful girls, while girls compared whose nail art was prettier or whose boyfriend was handsomer.
All the four-to-seven-year-old toddlers were left for Ye Li to play with.
They’d go fly kites on the grass lawns of the Ye Family Villa District.
Throw a tank of little fish into the fountain pond and roll up their pants to catch fish.
Or simply, each with a little shovel in hand, embark on digging for buried treasure on the lawn.
The children had fun; on returning everyone hovered around Ye Li, each calling her "Sister Lizi" and, at departure, one clinging to her arm, another hugging her leg, none wanting to leave.
Hence, the adults jokingly called her the "Child King."
Yet Ye Li never expected that one day, even the "Child King" could be at a loss.
After all, Xiao Bao was Fu Yanci’s son.
Those kids, with just a bump or a scrape, could always be coaxed and deceived, avoiding any blame from the adults, and she wouldn’t have to face any queries or reprimands.
But if Xiao Bao were to get a bump or a scrape, Fu Yanci’s deadly glare alone would be enough for her.
Amid the silence, the Maybach parked steadily in front of the Lishan Mansion.
