Chapter 301: As You Wish, Mrs. Fu!
Chapter 301: Chapter 301: As You Wish, Mrs. Fu!
"If Xiao Cao agrees, then I agree!"
Lan Lan’s answer was exactly what Ye Li expected.
It really was... completely unsurprising.
Thinking this, Ye Li turned to ask Li Xueqing, "Mom, when you used to go out with Dad to social gatherings, did you ever meet that President Jyang and Madam Jyang from Lehua? Were they easy to get along with?"
Aunt Lan chuckled, wearing an expression that said it was too early to make such conclusions.
Li Xueqing seriously thought for a long while before shaking her head in frustration. "It seems... I don’t have much of an impression of them! I just remember their daughter, so beautiful and capable, making all the ladies we were chatting with insanely envious, wishing they had a son who could marry that Ms. Jyang."
Ye Li froze, feeling an uncomfortable pang in her chest.
While she didn’t see Jyang Wanruo as a rival, Jyang Wanruo was undeniably present in her life.
A woman so excessively outstanding.
And she happened to be a fellow alumna of Fu Yanci.
Even though Jyang Wanruo hadn’t explicitly declared her feelings for Fu Yanci in front of her, Ye Li could sense it—she liked him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have asked her that question at the banquet.
But she didn’t know when Jyang Wanruo started liking Fu Yanci.
Nor did she know if knowing about Fu Yanci’s marriage would make her give up.
However, hearing her mom praise Jyang Wanruo so much still made Ye Li feel inexplicably jealous.
When playing in the snow afterward, she was utterly distracted, only snapping back to reality after Xiao Bao dumped a bunch of snow down her neck.
"Fu Muzhi, you’re dead meat!"
Shaking off the snow from her neck and hat, Ye Li bolted to chase him.
When Fu Yanci arrived, the sight that greeted him was a beautiful scene of one big and one little figure chasing each other in the snow, laughing and shouting.
But when he called out "Ah Li," the girl didn’t hear him.
Even when he approached to warm her hands, the girl calmly avoided him, wearing a visibly annoyed expression.
Utterly baffled, Fu Yanci remained confused all the way until breakfast.
"Uncle, do you want soybean milk or regular milk?"
In the dining room, Ye Li’s cheerful address of "Uncle" drew five pairs of eyes from various directions simultaneously.
Fu Yanci: !!!
Oh, gods above!
Can anyone tell him why Ah Li was mad?
Was it because of his text last night telling her she owed him yet another night and he’d charge interest?
But she replied to that, calling him a heartless and greedy capitalist—it didn’t sound like she was actually upset.
Or was it because she found out he stayed at the winery with Cheng Yanhuai until dawn?
But it was just him and Yan Huai, and the wine-pourers were all servers—forget women, he didn’t even encounter a single female mosquito.
This breakfast was so tense it felt on the verge of causing severe indigestion.
Slamming his chopsticks down, heedless of the gazes boring into him from the dining room, Fu Yanci grabbed Ye Li and dragged her into the bedroom.
As soon as the door closed, Fu Yanci turned around and pinned the girl against it. "Did I upset you?"
Ye Li avoided his gaze and turned her head away.
In truth, the moment she spoke, she realized how unreasonable she was being.
What did Fu Yanci even do? He didn’t know anything, and her misplaced anger was, to him, completely unjustified.
But Ye Li couldn’t let it go. She was just upset.
Even her mom thought highly of Jyang Wanruo—if she had a son, she’d want him to marry her as a daughter-in-law.
Meanwhile, Fu Yanci was warmly ingratiating himself with Mom, saying son-in-laws are like half-sons and telling her to come to him any time she needed anything.
If he was already considered half a son, then hadn’t Fu Yanci gotten lucky marrying Ye Li first? Otherwise, in Mom’s eyes, and in the opinions of outsiders, wouldn’t Jyang Wanruo and Fu Yanci seem like the more ideal match?
The girl said it all in a huff.
Fu Yanci listened, dumbfounded.
What was he supposed to say?
Should he remark on how women’s minds were like winding mountain roads, full of twists and turns and utterly unfathomable?
Or should he admit that he still had a lot to learn, lest he accidentally fell into such a pit in the future?
After a long silence, laughter suddenly flickered in Fu Yanci’s eyes.
"Ah Li..."
Lowering his head to kiss Ye Li, his voice carried trace hints of amusement. "You’re jealous!"
The last time, he had coaxed and teased her endlessly, repeatedly asking: "Ah Li, are you sure you’re not jealous?"
But this time, he declared unequivocally: "Ah Li, you’re jealous!"
Feeling her cheeks heat up, Ye Li turned her head away to avoid Fu Yanci’s playful gaze, glaring at him in frustration. "Yes, I’m mad! Even Mom thinks Jyang Wanruo is amazing, really amazing! I admit it: I’m jealous, okay?!"
Flushing with embarrassment, she tried to push him away. "Not over you, though! Let go of me!"
"Not letting go!"
Instead of releasing her, he pressed even closer, looking down at Ye Li with an unwavering gaze. "Ah Li, if I were someone else, say, Zhou Hecchen, would you still be this upset?"
Ye Li froze in place.
Throughout her indignation, the focus had always been Fu Yanci, the mom-approved "half a son."
But if it were Zhou Hecchen?
"You yourself said Zhou Hecchen usually has beauties around him, and while you might get mad the first time, you wouldn’t care the second time you saw him. But Ah Li..."
His voice brimming with mirth, Fu Yanci leaned down to kiss her again. "I’ll never give you the chance to get angry. At the very least, I won’t let you be mad at me because of other women. So don’t be upset anymore, alright?"
The man left her plenty of room to retreat.
And he was so careful and gentle in coaxing her.
The hint of sourness in Ye Li’s heart immediately vanished like a wisp tossed into the trash.
"That’s on you, then!"
Ye Li raised her eyes to meet Fu Yanci’s. "If one day down the road I discover you have another woman by your side, or that you’ve hidden something from me because of another woman—Fu Yanci, I’ll be so mad, mad enough to explode!"
"Alright..."
Whenever they gathered, Cheng Yanhuai’s girlfriend came up often, and with every anecdote about her jealousy or temper, Yan Huai’s face turned sour, seeming as though he wished women would disappear from the world altogether.
Yet as Ye Li pouted and fussed with jealousy now, all Fu Yanci felt was boundless joy in his heart.
Dragging his response out in a teasing drawl, he nodded. "As you command, Mrs. Fu!"
Just as he finished speaking, the girl leaned up to kiss him.
Their breaths became tangled as he kissed her back forcefully.
Before things spiraled out of control, he reluctantly let her go.
Breathing heavily, he gently traced along her lips. "Ah Li, you’ve been away from home for two days now. This early in the morning, don’t tempt me."
Sensing the danger inching closer, Ye Li bit her lip, cautiously nodding. "As you command, Mr. Fu."
Even after arriving at the office and downing an iced Americano, Fu Yanci couldn’t shake the vivid memory of the fiery spark in his heart.
He kept picturing Ah Li’s adorable fury, all because of an old joke made by Mom years ago.
He could still hear her fuming declaration: "Yes, I’m jealous! I’m mad!"
Not even the soaring stock market could grab his attention today.
Glancing at his watch, Fu Yanci couldn’t help but find the day crawling by maddeningly slow.
Every minute, every second, felt torturous.
When Xiang Yang came in to ask about lunch orders, Fu Yanci shook his head. "No need, go ahead and eat yourself."
With that, Fu Yanci stood, grabbed his coat from the rack, and snagged his car keys.
If he couldn’t eat, at least he could see her, right?
Just as he opened his phone to send a text inviting Mr. Ye to lunch, Ye Li’s message zoomed into his inbox.
[Mr. Fu, lunch is on the table, your wife is on the bed—which one do you want first?]
He jerked his head up abruptly, ditching his coat as he bolted upstairs.
