Chapter 205: Chapter 205: What Do You Think You Are? 5
Chloe Grant watched as Matthew Morgan got out of the car, walked around the front, and finally came to her side before opening the car door.
Chloe didn’t move.
Matthew raised an eyebrow, "Not getting out?"
As soon as he spoke, Chloe quickly got out of the car.
Perhaps she was too hurried, or maybe she was still recovering from yesterday’s intensity, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, they turned to jelly, and she almost stumbled!
Matthew, standing beside her, caught her, though his arm firmly landed across her soft chest.
Before Chloe could react, Matthew had already withdrawn his hand, steadying her.
"Watch your step," he said.
Chloe opened her mouth but felt a bitter frustration, as if she had been taken advantage of yet had nothing to say in defense!
"Chloe?"
Someone called Chloe by her name.
Chloe instinctively stood up straight, took a step back, and put some distance between herself and Matthew.
She looked so flustered, as if she had been caught doing something shameful.
Matthew frowned slightly, but when he turned to face the caller, he put on a cold and indifferent expression.
"Chloe, why did you come back so suddenly?"
The one calling Chloe was her grandmother. Although she was already seventy, she was still robust, walking with an energetic stride.
Matthew nodded politely, "Hello."
"Mr. Morgan," the elderly lady responded, her gaze returning to focus on Chloe, frowning slightly, "Why have you become so thin?"
Her wrinkled hand caressed Chloe’s cheek but couldn’t pinch any flesh.
"Don’t be like Lily, constantly dieting and not eating properly until she looks like a monkey."
The grandmother didn’t hold back and scolded her right in front of Matthew.
She didn’t care about fashion or beauty, only believed that being plump was best!
"I have some matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving for now. I’ll visit again another day." Matthew politely said.
The grandmother nodded, "Thank you."
Matthew shook his head and then got into the car.
Chloe pulled her grandmother aside to let Matthew drive away.
"Why did you come back so suddenly without telling Grandma? Come, let’s go to the market to buy some groceries and meat, you look thin!"
From the start, the grandmother kept murmuring about Chloe’s weight, pulling Chloe towards the supermarket to shop.
"Grandma, I’ve already eaten..."
"Then have a late-night snack!"
The grandmother didn’t let go, taking Chloe to buy groceries.
At home, the rest of Lily’s family wasn’t there, only Grandpa was.
Seeing Chloe, Grandpa was pleased but didn’t show it much.
The old man had always been outwardly cold but inwardly warm.
"Grandpa, I’m back," Chloe proactively said.
"You chat, I’ll go cook something for you," the grandmother said as she brought the groceries to the kitchen, urging Chloe outside.
Although she said to let her talk with Grandpa, in reality, they didn’t have much to say.
Just a question and answer.
Grandpa asked, and Chloe answered.
It was all about trivial life matters.
...
That night, Chloe stayed overnight at the Grant family home, in her original room, which hadn’t changed.
After Chloe finished washing up, the phone rang. It was her mother calling.
Chloe was very surprised because her mother hadn’t called in a long time.
"Hello?"
"Chloe..."
Her mother started to speak but fell silent after calling her name.
Chloe sat at the table, looking out the window.
There was a streetlamp outside her room, shining directly in, allowing Chloe to clearly see the street scene outside.
The mother and daughter held the phone for almost three minutes, yet said nothing...
