Chapter 38: Heaven Immortal Sect [2]

After the Grand Elders concluded their speeches — each filled with wisdom, history, and the kind of heavy pauses that only came with age — a silence fell upon the gathering.

It was a calm, drawn breath. Almost as if the entire world itself was waiting.

And then, it happened.

A shimmering projection bloomed high in the sky, visible to all within the Yu Clan and far beyond. Suspended in the heavens was a radiant golden banner, embroidered with celestial patterns and glowing script:

[Heaven Immortal Sect]

Gasps echoed through the plaza.

"That’s...!"

"It’s really them—!"

"Is this the official selection?!"

But it wasn’t just the Yu Clan witnessing this.

Across the realm — in every heavenly world, every upper world, every middle realm and every struggling lower world — the exact same golden projection appeared, illuminating the skies.

Even ordinary mortals, who could not normally sense spiritual energy, paused to gaze upward. The heavens themselves seemed to part for this moment. Wind stilled. Birds paused in mid-flight.

And then... the banner pulsed.

A divine golden light surged from its fabric, weaving into a sweeping scan — not just across continents, but across realm.

It was searching.

Testing.

And once it found what it was looking for, it acted.

In thousands of places at once — and in others, individuals simply vanished. Not in a flash of light. Not in an explosion of thunder.

They just... disappeared.

One moment they were there, and the next, they were gone.

Vanished from their world like pages turned in a book no one remembered writing.

In the heavenly worlds, such phenomena were accepted with reverence. After all, the Heaven Immortal Sect had not acted in centuries. Their movements meant something massive.

In the upper worlds, those chosen were celebrated with divine rites.

But in the middle and lower worlds?

Panic.

Confusion.

Sects scrambled to protect their most talented disciples, only to watch helplessly as they vanished mid-step, mid-meal, mid-prayer. Some tried to interfere. No one managed to resist — before being swept away by invisible force.

And in the Yu Clan, it was no different.

One by one, disciples standing on the great gathering field began to vanish.

A ripple of light.

And gone.

No sound.

No warning.

Just... absence.

Yu Xuan stood frozen.

He looked left — one line of disciples was gone.

He looked right — another row vanished before his eyes.

He blinked and saw a blur — like starlight caught in motion — as another disciple disappeared in front of him.

He wanted to shout, to react, but he couldn’t. It wasn’t fear. It was awe.

’It’s like... some golden spaceship firing beams from the sky,’ he thought numbly. ’Wait... no. That’s a very purple-headed titan kind of vibe.’

He turned quickly toward Lingluo and Tianmei — and watched as they too vanished in streaks of divine light.

He felt it then — a gentle tug, like someone calling his soul.

The world rippled.

Light swirled around him, but he felt no pain. No pressure. Just... a pulling sensation from deep within.

And then...

He was gone.

In that instant, Yu Xuan’s form shimmered and disappeared, leaving behind only echoes and scattered stardust in the wind.

The ground where thousands once stood was now almost half empty.

Yu Changming narrowed his eyes, a glint of power flashing across them.

"It has begun."

First Elder Yu Ying crossed her arms. "They’re being summoned."

Second Elder Wu Jinhai gave a low hum. "It’s happening."

Grand Elder Yu Qin softly strummed her guqin, a melancholic tone spreading through the air.

"They’ll face trials," she murmured.

Yu Changming glanced over the remaining disciples on the field, his eyes calm and unreadable.

With a simple motion of his hand, he signaled the nearby Elders to begin escorting them back to their respective quarters.

Then, with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips, he thought to himself:

’They’ll be fine. Especially after going through training.’

He nodded once, his confidence absolute.

After all, how could they not survive after enduring that training?

Without another word, he vanished from sight—leaving nothing but air in his place.

Meanwhile...

Yu Xuan found himself standing on clouds.

Or what felt like clouds.

A vast white expanse stretched endlessly in every direction. It was as though he had stepped into a world of light and fog, the ground soft beneath his feet, the air perfectly still.

Around him, others began to appear—first a few, then dozens, then hundreds.

And not all of them were human.

Some bore horns.

Some had fur-lined limbs or elongated ears.

A few floated slightly off the ground, their forms faintly translucent.

Others were unmistakably not from any human world.

Yu Xuan blinked. Then blinked again.

’Whoa... different races?’

He was genuinely surprised. This was the first time he had encountered people—creatures?—outside of the human race. He had read about them, sure. But seeing them? That was different.

’This... might actually be fun.’

That optimism lasted about a minute.

More and more people continued to arrive until the crowd stretched as far as the eye could see. Thousands—maybe tens of thousands—all crammed into this strange floating realm, each looking around in varying degrees of confusion, excitement, or guarded calm.

Yu Xuan considered looking for his clanmates—Tianmei, Lingluo, perhaps even Lin Fan or Xueqing—but stopped himself.

’I’ll meet them soon. I have a feeling this is just the beginning.’

Then the white sky above their heads began to ripple—like a calm pond disturbed by a drop of stone.

The massive golden banner appeared once more, the words glowing like a divine decree:

[Heaven Immortal Sect]

The moment it shimmered into existence, the clouds beneath them stilled, and the sky began to change—fading from brilliant white to soft, golden hues.

From the air, a ripple appeared, and then—

A spirit descended.

It hovered in the air for a second, then slowly took form.

The figure of a man in his thirties materialized—tall, well-dressed, and slightly ethereal, with hair that shimmered like stardust and robes that flowed without wind.

He glanced down at the sea of gathered youths.

"Hmm. Seems everyone has arrived," he said to himself.

Then his voice rose—not with volume, but with sheer presence—and echoed across the space so that all could hear.

"Greetings," he began, arms folded behind his back. "I am Tianling, the artifact spirit of the Mini Heaven Immortal Sect."

"I am Mini HIS hahaha...." he began to laugh.

A murmur ran through the crowd.

Then Tianling continued, unfazed.

"The space you stand in now lies between realm. A temporary pocket dimension designed to host candidates from across your realm’s many worlds."

He gestured upward, and the golden sky rippled in response.

"At first, I was instructed to select a handful of minor realms for this cycle’s recruitment. But during my travels, I became... curious."

His eyes sparkled mischievously.

"So, I added a few more."

Yu Xuan had a sudden image of someone being summoned while eating noodles.

Tianling smiled faintly.

"But now that you’re all here, it’s time for the first trial — a simple test of body, spirit, and soul."

The crowd immediately tensed.

Tianling, however, raised a hand in reassurance.

"Worry not! It’s very simple."

He smiled like a oil merchant.

"Just survive."

Silence.

Yu Xuan tilted his head. ’Of course. Why is it always just survive?’

Tianling continued, his voice almost cheerful.

"Of the many here, only a few thousand or hundred at most—will remain. The rest... well, let’s just say your journey ends early."

He paused, giving them a moment to process.

Then, he gave a short, polite bow.

"Well then... good luck."

With a final smirk, he vanished into thin air—just like that.

No swirling light.

No dramatic exit.

Just gone.

And around them, the golden sky pulsed once—before splitting open with a loud, echoing crack.

The trial had begun...
