"You’re not starting to treat her like your real mom, are you?" Cai Yingxue said, clearly unhappy.

Cai Jinghui instantly got angry. "It was just playing games. I’m not treating her like my real mom."

"Then why did you ask her to play games with you?"

"She’s good at games," Cai Jinghui answered indifferently.

Cai Yingxue wasn’t satisfied. "Don’t let Aunt find out."

Cai Jinghui couldn’t help but retort, "And what if she does? Do you really think she treats us well?"

"If Aunt isn’t good to us, then who is?"

"If she’s so good, why does she keep taking our gifts away?"

Cai Yingxue said, "But Aunt also gives us gifts."

"You guys, the offspring of businesspeople, haven’t calculated it, have you? How much are the gifts Aunt gives us worth compared to what she takes from us? Have you ever thought about that?"

"But every time she visits, she brings us sweet and sour pork—our favorite dish," Cai Yingxue argued.

Cai Jinghui countered, "Can’t the nanny in our house make sweet and sour pork? Sure, she makes it, but every time she brings it, it’s basically cold. Even if you reheat it, it’s not the same. Besides, the sweet and sour pork we love is the one Mom makes, not hers."

Cai Yingxue got angry and slammed her chopsticks down with force. "Enough, the lot of you! She’s our aunt, the only family we have left besides Dad, and I won’t allow you to speak ill of her."

Cai Jinghui said, "Fine, I won’t say anymore. Think about the reality yourselves."

As soon as he finished speaking, he put down his chopsticks and went back to his room.

That night, heavy rain poured down accompanied by thunder and lightning. A loud "rumble" startled everyone awake.

Cai Jinghui woke up too, jolting upright in terror, and ran into the hallway.

He wanted to find Dad, but as soon as he reached the hallway, he realized Dad wasn’t home.

The room down the hall belonged to Li Jiajia.

He stood there, staring blankly at the door to Li Jiajia’s room.

Originally, he intended to head back to his own room and go back to sleep, but when another thunderclap roared, he instinctively rushed into Li Jiajia’s room.

Li Jiajia didn’t have the habit of locking her door while she slept. She was a light sleeper and woke up immediately upon hearing the commotion.

She turned on the bedside lamp and saw Cai Jinghui standing at her doorway, his face filled with terror. She instantly understood the situation.

Cai Minjun had mentioned before that out of all the children, Cai Jinghui was the most timid—he was even afraid of thunder.

She walked toward him, crouched down, and looked at him.

"Are you scared of thunder?"

Cai Jinghui nodded slightly.

"Do you want to sleep on the bed or the couch?" Li Jiajia asked.

Cai Jinghui quickly understood what Li Jiajia meant: she was offering to let him stay for the night, leaving the choice between the bed or the couch up to him.
