Accidentally Married to the Big Shot
Chapter 409: She Doesn’t Fight or Compete

Chapter 409: Chapter 409: She Doesn’t Fight or Compete

Li Jiajia didn’t argue with them, she simply smiled faintly and went upstairs.

She didn’t have the time to put on a pretense with them.

Since being a stepmother was so difficult, she decided to appear in front of them less often, to avoid annoying people.

Back in her room, unsurprisingly, she found their parents’ wedding photo placed by her bedside again.

She took a deep breath, didn’t get angry, and silently walked into the inner suite.

Lying on the bed, she stared blankly at the ceiling, thinking that things couldn’t continue this way. Either she would move out or she would divorce Cai Minjun.

If she moved out, there was no way Cai Minjun would follow her. He always felt indebted to his three children.

If she moved out, the couple would live apart for a long time, and a divorce would become inevitable in the end.

She didn’t love Cai Minjun deeply, but he had resolutely married her during her most difficult time, pulling her out of her predicament, so she couldn’t let him down.

Forget it. This life would just be this way—no children of her own, and even if someday Cai Minjun’s children grew up and kicked her out, she wouldn’t care.

In this lifetime, she was determined not to let him down.

After taking a shower and eating a bowl of bird’s nest soup that Cai Minjun had bought for her, she lay in bed and went to sleep.

In the middle of the night, while sleeping half-asleep, she vaguely heard her phone ringing.

Her phone was set to vibrate; if she was sleeping deeply, she wouldn’t have heard it. But tonight, she happened to not be sleeping very heavily.

Just as she picked up her phone, there was loud banging on the room door. She decisively chose to open the door first.

"Madam, Jinghui seems to have a fever. What should we do? Should we contact the family doctor or go to the hospital?" The nanny nervously asked from outside.

Upon hearing about the fever, Li Jiajia instinctively asked, "How do you usually handle his fevers?"

"Mr. Cai said if it’s not too high, we call the family doctor. If it’s very high, we go to the hospital immediately."

"Then just follow Mr. Cai’s instructions."

The nanny said, "But his fever is really very high. I... I don’t feel confident about it."

"Where’s the driver?"

"He’s waiting downstairs. Madam, would you come with us to take the child to the hospital? I’m afraid I won’t be able to make the right decision on my own."

Li Jiajia sighed and said, "Fine, let’s go. I’ll grab a jacket. Have the driver wait at the door."

After all, she was the lady of the house. With her husband absent, she had to take charge.

...

Downstairs, 9-year-old Cai Jinghui was carried out by the nanny.

Though Cai Jinghui was still a child, at nine years old he was already quite heavy. Seeing the nanny struggling to carry him, Li Jiajia stepped forward and took him into her arms. "Let me carry him."

At this moment, Cai Jinghui was feverish and disoriented. But when he opened his eyes and saw Li Jiajia, he instinctively began to struggle.

"You, bad woman! Put me down!"

Li Jiajia glanced at him and replied, "I’ll put you down when we get to the hospital. Don’t worry, I won’t carry you for long."

Once in the car, Li Jiajia immediately handed him back to the nanny, as if she couldn’t care less.

Cai Jinghui felt anger rising inside him, but his body was weak, and he couldn’t even muster the energy to curse.

At the hospital, Li Jiajia carried him again and asked the nanny, "Did you contact the hospital already?"

"Yes, we’re going to the VIP pediatric clinic on the sixth floor."

Li Jiajia carried Cai Jinghui to the clinic.

When the doctor arrived and took his temperature, they found his fever had reached 41.5 degrees.

The doctor arranged for him to be admitted, and they hooked him up to fluids. By the time the IV drip was finished, it was already four in the morning.

Cai Jinghui had regained some energy. Seeing Li Jiajia still in the hospital room, he angrily shouted, "Why are you still here? Don’t think I can’t do without you."

Li Jiajia didn’t argue with him. She simply said, "Alright, now that you’re doing better, I’ll leave."

After saying that, she truly turned around and left the room.

Cai Jinghui was stunned for a moment and then complained to the nanny, "That woman must be trying to take this chance to get closer to me."

The nanny sighed as she watched him.

The nanny’s name was Mrs. Feng and she had worked for the Cai Family for more than a decade. She had witnessed the birth and growth of these children, spoke little, but was diligent in her work.

She said to Cai Jinghui, "She wasn’t trying to get close to you. I asked her for help when I saw how high your fever was, and she came down immediately without a word."

Cai Jinghui sneered, "Who asked for her help? If you couldn’t carry me, you could have called Aunt Li."

Mrs. Feng sighed again. "Aunt Li wasn’t home until the evening. I didn’t want to bother her. Besides, Madam was upstairs. She is, after all, a part of the household..."

"She’s not the mistress of the household. The only mistress of this house is my mom. My mom is dead, but even if I were dying, don’t you dare ask her for help again."

Mrs. Feng said, "If your mom were here, she’d never let you die. No matter what, she’d save you."

Hearing that, Cai Jinghui grew irritated and said, "I’m going to sleep now. Keep an eye on the IV."

"Alright, sleep tight." Mrs. Feng adjusted his blanket.

...

After two days in the hospital, Cai Jinghui was discharged.

When he was discharged, Cai Minjun had already returned home.

Cai Minjun picked him up from the hospital, and Cai Jinghui was thrilled. He was even happier that Li Jiajia hadn’t come along.

"Dad, where did you go these past two days? I missed you so much at the hospital."

Cai Minjun said, "I was abroad. I just got off the plane. I heard that on the night you got sick, it was Aunt Li who took you to the hospital?"

Cai Jinghui immediately looked unhappy. "Dad, why are you bringing her up?"

"I know you don’t like her, but she helped you. Didn’t your mom teach you to be grateful? You shouldn’t repay kindness with resentment."

Cai Jinghui muttered, "I didn’t ask for her help."

"You kids have been influenced too much by Aunt Li, filled with misguided ideas. Think about it—since Aunt Li moved in, has she ever fought with you for anything? She doesn’t even seek favor with anyone. On the contrary, it’s you kids who are constantly making trouble for her, yet she never minds."

Cai Jinghui suddenly said, "Dad, her lack of reaction means what? It means she doesn’t care about you that much either. If she truly loved you, she would have tried to drive the three of us away and keep you all to herself."

Cai Minjun was startled by his reasoning. "Who put such thoughts in your head?"

"I figured it out while watching videos online."

"Stop watching so many videos. I’ll start limiting your screen time."

"Alright."

The two returned home just in time for lunch.

Aunt Li wasn’t there; the house felt peaceful, and Li Jiajia was around.

Cai Yingxue and Cai Yingyue asked about his recovery, and he replied he was fine and long since feeling better.

Then he glanced at Li Jiajia, but Li Jiajia didn’t look at him the entire time, as if he didn’t exist at all.
