Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Switch to Video Account
Xi Wanfen felt a warm sensation in her heart.
Qiu Shuai was so understanding.
She asked again, "Then if I can’t keep at it, will you laugh at me?"
"Why would I laugh at you? I’m worried I won’t be able to stick to my diet and you might laugh at me instead. Besides, everyone has their own strengths. Maybe you’re better at doing something else. Based on my observation, most people who become doctors are bookworms — introverted, not very talkative, and deeply focused on research. Do you think you’re that kind of person?"
Xi Wanfen thought for a moment and said, "I don’t think that’s me. Although I’m not exactly outgoing, my mind tends to wander, and I often daydream. If I wasn’t like this, my grades wouldn’t be so bad."
Qiu Shuai replied, "Exactly! That’s the point. Look, you did great with your live streaming before, you just decided not to continue later. Speaking of live streaming, I bet plenty of doctors at your hospital wouldn’t be able to pull it off because it’s not their area of expertise. But you’re good at it."
Xi Wanfen felt much better after hearing his encouragement.
After attending a few classes, she realized she wasn’t cut out for medical studies.
Of course, she had already suspected this before working in disaster relief, but she didn’t want to give up. She thought maybe her lack of motivation was the issue before, and now, with a newfound drive, she might work harder.
However, despite her efforts, she still couldn’t make herself focus on her studies.
Qiu Shuai suggested, "Actually, you could start an account specifically for live streaming. It doesn’t have to be profit-oriented; you could focus on educating people about medicine or health knowledge."
Xi Wanfen said, "Lots of people have those kinds of accounts. Why would anyone watch mine?"
"If you stream for a while, people will start watching. I’ve heard that accounts like these need persistence. At the start, there’s little traffic, but it grows gradually. Besides, you have a great image and you’re a nurse—people would be drawn to that. When you gain a lot of followers, you can even sell products."
Xi Wanfen quickly said, "No, I won’t sell products again."
"Then just make it a purely charity-based live streaming channel."
"Should I give it a try?"
"Before you start live streaming, it’s best to plan your approach — decide on your themes, your outfit as the host, and iron out all the details. I refuse to believe you won’t get any traffic."
Xi Wanfen said, "Then I’ll stop studying medicine."
"Don’t throw away your medical books just yet. Study as much as you can, and when you stream, mentioning them will help show your expertise — right?"
Xi Wanfen finally had an epiphany. "Alright, I understand."
...
Xi Wanfen was someone who acted fast once inspired. She skipped sleep and immediately began planning.
After researching, she discovered that she couldn’t open a streaming channel under her personal name.
She decided to approach the vice president of the hospital.
This vice president was acquainted with her father, but she had never leveraged this connection for personal gain before.
Now, she decided to use it.
Early the following morning, she went to the vice president’s office.
"Dr. Liu, I remember our hospital has a public video channel, right?"
"That’s correct. Why do you ask?" Mr. Liu replied with a smile.
Because of his relationship with Xi Huarong, Mr. Liu had tried several times to get close to Xi Wanfen and offer her some conveniences, but her laid-back attitude and lack of social awareness meant she didn’t catch on to his hints.
Eventually, he accepted what Xi Huarong said—that Xi Wanfen was only working for a paycheck to support her family.
Since Mr. Liu asked, Xi Wanfen spoke directly, "Videos and live streaming are all the rage now. I think our hospital should keep up with the times. We could occasionally upload videos or host live streams to promote topics like traditional medicine or nursing care. If we do it well, it could even make patients more interested in coming to our hospital, don’t you think?"
Mr. Liu replied, "We already have people working on these things—it’s the publicity team, I believe."
"I know, but I think what they’re doing feels too routine. I checked, and the account only has a thousand followers, barely."
"Oh? What ideas do you have, then?"
Xi Wanfen showed Mr. Liu some of the live streaming videos she’d previously made of selling clothes. "Dr. Liu, take a look at these. I helped others do live streams to sell clothes back then, and they gained quite a lot of attention. I was thinking maybe I could take over the hospital’s public live streaming channel. Hehe."
Although Xi Wanfen had always been the type to avoid competing or chasing after things, this was the first time she actively pitched herself, and she felt rather embarrassed.
Mr. Liu said, "I see, but I need to talk to the publicity team first to ensure they don’t feel like it’s criticism of their efforts or develop other misunderstandings. I worry they might resent you later."
Xi Wanfen quickly replied, "Yes, communication is essential. I wouldn’t want them to hold grudges against me either."
Mr. Liu then asked, "Do you truly understand how to do this? Can you guarantee that if you take over, the followers or traffic will grow?"
Xi Wanfen said, "I can’t guarantee that I’ll increase followers, but I’m very willing to do this. Besides, I’m not asking for anything in return. How about giving me three months as a trial? If there’s no improvement, I’ll return the account back. I don’t even need a raise — just happy to contribute."
"Hahaha, Xiao Fen, if every employee in the hospital had your attitude, things would be great," Mr. Liu said. "Alright, go back and wait for my notice. I’ll still need to discuss this with the hospital director and the publicity team."
"Alright, understood." Xi Wanfen left the vice president’s office.
But she didn’t sit idle. During this time, she studied how to manage a video channel online, learning the rules for video distribution, understanding what could and couldn’t be said to avoid violations that might lead to account bans.
She also planned the kind of content the hospital’s video channel should feature.
Drawing inspiration from other medical video channels, she considered making short videos and hosting general medical discussions. Of course, the content should align with current social issues—for instance, since H1N1 was a growing concern, she could produce a few episodes on how to prevent it.
While she struggled with medical studies, her passion for this topic was evident, and her natural talent shone through.
A week later, Mr. Liu contacted her, saying he’d discussed it with the publicity team and she could meet with their director.
The director greeted her warmly, "Xi Wanfen, what made you think about creating a video channel? Are you especially interested in this?"
Xi Wanfen replied, "Partly because I’m interested, but also because I want to help more people in need. And thirdly, I hope to promote our hospital better. We have so many outstanding doctors here—it’s worth showcasing them!"
