Accidentally Married to the Big Shot
Chapter 394: Can We Have Our Own Child?

Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Can We Have Our Own Child?

"What are you spacing out for?" In the gym, Qiu Shuai gave Xi Wanfen a light punch with his boxing gloves.

Xi Wanfen snapped back to reality and said, "I was thinking about my ex-boyfriend."

Qiu Shuai immediately looked a little unhappy, his lips practically drooping to his chin.

"You two already broke up, what’s there to think about? Seriously."

Xi Wanfen responded, "I’m not just thinking about him. There’s also a girl from my department. This girl used to always gossip to me about my ex. I thought she really just liked gossip, but it turns out she had a crush on him all along. She even confessed to him this afternoon."

Qiu Shuai scoffed, "You’re just too innocent. The world isn’t that simple. Let me tell you, if someone mentions another person’s name more than three times, they definitely like them."

Xi Wanfen said, "I guess I’ve been too oblivious."

"Well, tell me this—did she gossip about anyone else?"

"Not that I recall."

"Exactly. Not gossiping about others, only your ex? If she doesn’t have a crush on him, who else could it be? She keeps bringing him up to you just to fish for information—trying to figure out if there’s any chance you might get back together."

Xi Wanfen said, "You seem to really understand women."

"Of course. I own a bar, you know—what sort of people haven’t I seen? Girls like you are the most straightforward."

Xi Wanfen punched him lightly in the chest. "You keep saying I’m gullible. Try and trick me if you’re so confident!"

Qiu Shuai paused for a moment, lowered his head, then raised it again and said earnestly, "I would never trick you. I only want to win you over with sincerity."

"..." That statement made Xi Wanfen blush.

Xi Wanfen replied, "Aren’t we good friends? Good friends should always treat each other sincerely; otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to stay good friends."

Qiu Shuai muttered under his breath, "You know how I feel about you."

"Of course I do—we’re just good friends!"

That day, Xi Wanfen came home to find Li Shirui sitting in the living room, so she plopped down next to her.

"What’s up with you? You seem a little down," Li Shirui asked.

Xi Wanfen replied, "That chubby guy who came over last time... I think he might like me."

"I could tell."

"Mom, what do you think of him as a person?"

"He’s alright."

"He has a few older sisters," Xi Wanfen said. "I’m worried his family might be like Liang Zhanbai’s—just looking for someone to come back and play housekeeper."

Li Shirui laughed, "Families with several older sisters vary. In some, they’re patriarchal, and the sisters do all the work while the brother does none; in those cases, you shouldn’t marry in.

But in others, even though there are many sisters, the brother is capable and independent—a situation like that can be okay.

From what I could tell of that chubby guy’s character, I don’t think he was overly pampered growing up. He seems like a responsible young man—pretty mature for his age."

Xi Wanfen added, "But I’m not interested in dating so early. I just feel... marriage doesn’t seem to offer much benefit."

"Silly child, marriage is about finding the right person. If you find someone with good character, marriage has plenty of benefits. If you don’t, then there’s not much to gain.

Ultimately, marriage is about finding a partner to walk through life with—supporting each other, raising kids together, discovering life’s joys amidst the daily grind. But don’t expect marriage itself to give you something, like living as a Princess, being pampered by your husband, or drastically changing your social status; that could lead to disappointment."

Xi Wanfen said, "But isn’t my sister basically pampered by her husband?"

"Silly girl, your brother-in-law loves her, that’s true. But now that they have a child, your sister still has to raise and care for the baby, and contribute to the family. In the end, you have to find your sweetness amid the daily hustle."

"How do you find that sweetness?" Xi Wanfen asked.

Li Shirui replied, "It’s in the little moments between husband and wife. But those sweet moments only exist with someone who truly loves you."

Xi Wanfen thought about it for a moment and said, "I’m not ready to think about all this yet. While I’m still young, I want to focus on my career and improving myself."

Ever since the earthquake, Xi Wanfen had been considering taking her medical licensing exam again. This time, she decided to give it her all and make sure she passed.

As for Qiu Shuai, she still considered him a friend. If he thought she was leading him on, he could go ahead and chase someone else instead.

...

Ever since Su Meixi stopped breastfeeding, she had been in much better shape.

During the day, if she was too exhausted, the nanny and housekeeper would help feed formula to the baby. At night, when the baby woke up once or twice, Gu Wei would get up to feed him.

Su Meixi was worried he’d be too tired to work during the day, so she didn’t let him feed the baby as much, choosing to do it herself.

Gu Wei felt for her, often bringing her milk tea or small gifts after work, and occasionally toys for the baby.

Perhaps this was what Li Shirui meant by finding the sweetness amid the daily grind.

The postpartum period passed like this.

After it was over, Li Jiajia came to visit Su Meixi.

Since Su Meixi hadn’t gone out during her postpartum recovery, she felt cooped up. But she didn’t want to leave the baby behind, so she hosted Li Jiajia in the villa’s small garden.

The baby’s jaundice hadn’t subsided yet, so Su Meixi left him in a nearby crib to soak up some sun while she sat and chatted with Li Jiajia over tea.

Li Jiajia remarked to Su Meixi, "You’ve put on a little weight."

"I had a baby—what woman doesn’t gain weight from that?" Su Meixi chuckled.

She didn’t care much about these things now.

"You seem to have your eyes full of your son. Isn’t your husband jealous?" Li Jiajia teased.

"You’re not wrong. He really does get jealous. I often stare at my son for the entire day—I just think he’s so adorable, in every way. I think every mom on social media is like this."

Li Jiajia laughed, "Well, enjoy it. Babies are at their cutest now. Give it a few years—they’ll reach the stage where even dogs wouldn’t want them. By the time they hit puberty, you’ll wish you could kick him out the door as soon as possible."

Su Meixi asked doubtfully, "It won’t be that bad, will it?"

"Maybe it’s because I’m a stepmother, but that’s honestly how I feel now," Li Jiajia chuckled faintly.

She had wanted to light a cigarette but, seeing the baby nearby and Su Meixi postpartum, thought better of it.

Su Meixi knew all about Li Jiajia’s situation. Her current husband was a businessman in his forties. His first wife had passed away, leaving him with three children.

Li Jiajia had worked as a police officer but accidentally killed a suspect during duty and ended up in prison. It was the businessman who arranged her job afterward and cared for her, leading to their relationship.

Su Meixi asked Li Jiajia, "Don’t you want to have a child of your own?"

Li Jiajia chuckled bitterly, "His children think having a stepmother means having a stepfather too. Relatives keep stirring trouble, convincing them that if I had my own child, it’d divide the inheritance."

Su Meixi looked sympathetically at Li Jiajia. She was no older than 28, yet she couldn’t have a child of her own.

"What do you think about it?"
