Accidentally Married to the Big Shot
Chapter 356: No One Is Wrong

Chapter 356: Chapter 356: No One Is Wrong

Xi Wanfen couldn’t remember how she managed to get back to her office.

She was both heartbroken and sad.

She didn’t know where the problem lay or how it turned out to be a real breakup.

She held back the pain to complete her shift that night.

It wasn’t until she got home at night that she finally broke down and cried.

Next door, Xi Huarong and Li Shirui hadn’t gone to bed yet, when they suddenly heard crying. Li Shirui instinctively said, "I’ll go check on her."

"Go ahead," Xi Huarong said, "It must be because of the boyfriend issue."

Li Shirui knocked on the door, and after a while, it opened.

Xi Wanfen had already stopped crying and said to Li Shirui as if nothing had happened, "Mom, Zhan Bai and I broke up. Mom, I’m fine, don’t worry about me. You guys should go to bed early."

After speaking, she closed the door and lay back on her bed, sobbing bitterly.

Li Shirui returned to her room, got into bed, and then said to Xi Huarong, "She said she and Zhan Bai broke up."

She then sighed, "I can see that she really liked Zhan Bai, and he’s not a bad guy either. It’s just that he’s too young."

Xi Huarong, however, seemed calm: "It doesn’t hurt for young people to experience several relationships, after enough of them they’ll understand that even the most passionate love will eventually come down to daily matters of eating, dressing, and sleeping. How does that saying go? Love often stands firm against life-and-death challenges, but falls prey to the trivialities of daily life. Zhan Bai is a good person, but he carries his family’s imprint in his thoughts. If they were to get married, it would be Wanfen who would have to endure it."

Li Shirui asked, "But now, which family isn’t like this? And because of this, young people don’t want to get married."

Xi Huarong responded, "Marriage itself is an unnatural act. Going over there, calling someone else’s parents ’Mom and Dad,’ having to spend the New Year with a bunch of people you’re not familiar with, not being able to go back to your own parents during holidays, and in old age, being expected to show filial piety to someone else’s parents."

Li Shirui said, "By that logic, me marrying you was quite a sacrifice."

Xi Huarong wrapped his arm around her shoulder and asked, "Do you regret it?"

"Let me think... Although I call your parents ’Mom and Dad,’ it seems I don’t have much connection with them. You never asked me to show filial piety on your behalf. In the early years, when you were away on missions, and I was raising the children by myself, I didn’t even go to your family’s place for the New Year, so I was quite free."

"Your nature is tough to begin with. Wanfen won’t be able to handle it. If she got married, she’d cry every day and come to us to complain. And when there’s a child in the future, if the other family sees she can’t part with the child, they will certainly manipulate her."

"You have a point," Li Shirui said.

Initially, Li Shirui felt a bit guilty, wondering if they would not have broken up if they had agreed to meet Zhan Bai’s parents. But after Xi Huarong’s analysis, she felt that maybe the breakup wasn’t so regrettable. Wanfen was only 23 years old, and she didn’t approve of her getting married so early.

...

Today, after getting off work, Su Meixi saw Wanfen in the outpatient building.

She sat blankly on the bench, apparently lost in thought.

Su Meixi couldn’t help but walk over to her, "Wanfen?"

Wanfen turned around and upon seeing Su Meixi, tears started to flow.

"Oh, what happened?" Su Meixi quickly took out a tissue to wipe her tears.

Wanfen cried even harder.

Su Meixi hastily embraced her.

It must have been a breakup; otherwise, why would Wanfen come here just to cry? She clearly wanted to find someone to confide in.

Despite the constant flow of people around, Su Meixi didn’t mind.

She treated Wanfen as if she were her own little sister.

After all, they were truly sisters.

It took a lot of crying before Wanfen finally looked up at Su Meixi and said, "Sister Su, Zhan Bai wants to break up with me. Today I wanted to confirm with him only to find out he deleted me from WeChat."

Su Meixi patted her shoulder, not knowing quite what to say for comfort, she could only suggest, "Wanfen, are you hungry? How about we find somewhere to sit down and talk while we eat?"

"Sister, can we go for barbecue?"

"Of course, that’s fine. I know where to find the best barbecue. Let’s go now."

...

Half an hour later, Su Meixi and Xi Wanfen had already taken a seat in a food stall, with piles of barbecue laid out in front of them.

While eating, Xiao Fen recounted to Su Meixi the details of her breakup.

"Sister, do you think I was in the wrong?"

Su Meixi shook her head.

She was actually quite envious of Xiao Fen, having parents to vet her potential partners.

"Xiao Fen, you did nothing wrong, neither did Zhan Bai. Nor did his parents or... your parents. The problem lies in the mindset, some mindsets take generations to change."

Xiao Fen looked up at Su Meixi, "Sister, is your relationship with your mother-in-law also not good?"

"I’m different from you. My mother-in-law has her own life. Although she looks down on me, she doesn’t try to interfere in my life. And Gu Wei doesn’t want her to interfere either. In this respect, Gu Wei is very protective of me."

Xiao Fen asked, "Is it because his family is wealthy?"

"It has nothing to do with wealth. What’s most important is how well our values align."

Xiao Fen then picked up another grilled chicken leg and started eating.

"Then tell me, do you think Zhan Bai will regret breaking up with me?"

"He was so decisive in proposing the breakup that he probably won’t regret it. Xiao Fen, don’t think that every man is like Yang Guo, able to wait for a girl for 16 years. The reality is, many people quickly find a new relationship after breaking up. Those who go back to their ex usually aren’t in deep love, otherwise why would they break up so easily?"

It was the same for her and Gu Wei before. The reason she proposed divorce was also due to lack of love.

Xiao Fen started drinking her cola.

...

Xiao Fen still had quite a few belongings at Liang Zhanbai’s place, so she asked Su Meixi if she could accompany her to retrieve them.

Su Meixi naturally agreed.

Driving her Wuling minivan, Xiao Fen returned to her small apartment, where she and Su Meixi went up together.

However, they heard laughter and conversation coming from inside the door as they approached.

Xiao Fen paused for a moment, recognizing the voice as Dang Li’s.

She keyed in the passcode, which hadn’t been changed, and the door opened revealing Liang Zhanbai and Dang Li nestled together on the sofa, each holding a mobile phone in their hands.

It appeared they were teaming up to play a game.

Upon seeing Xi Wanfen enter, Liang Zhanbai’s smile froze immediately.

He looked at Xi Wanfen with some annoyance, "Why are you here?"

"I’ve come to take my things," Xi Wanfen said.

The small apartment was rented by Liang Zhanbai and he took care of the rent. Xi Wanfen was responsible only for groceries and buying some small furniture and decorative items.

"Then take them." Liang Zhanbai did not refuse her request and sat back down, resuming the game with Dang Li.

A smile lingered on Dang Li’s lips, but she said nothing.

Seeing Liang Zhanbai’s attitude towards Xi Wanfen made her feel she was one step closer to her goal.

Xi Wanfen only went in to pack her clothes and daily wear, fetched her skincare products from the bathroom, and shoved other items like chargers into a small bag.

As she was leaving, she said to Liang Zhanbai, "I’ve pretty much taken all my things. If there’s anything left, just throw it away for me."

"Alright," Liang Zhanbai replied.
