Chapter 222: THE ATTACK
The TV screen flickered back to life, and Josh’s eyes narrowed as he watched the live broadcast of the airline’s launch.
He watched Astrid stand confidently beside Julian and the Logans, her bright smile illuminating the entire scene.
The camera panned across the crowded room, showing off the sleek, modern decor of the airline’s new terminal. Astrid’s voice rang out clear and confident as she began to speak.
"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and fellow travelers, it is my honor to introduce you to JL Airlines, the future of flight!" Astrid declared, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
As she spoke, the camera cut to a shot of the airline’s new fleet, sleek and shiny planes emblazoned with the JL logo. Astrid continued.
"Our airline is dedicated to providing the highest level of service, comfort, and safety to our passengers."
Julian stepped forward, a charming smile spreading across his face.
"I am thrilled to announce that Astrid, our beautiful and talented ambassador, will be the face of JL Airlines."
The camera zoomed in on Astrid as she smiled and waved, her hair shining in the bright lights with applause following.
Josh’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing with hatred and resentment.
As the launch ceremony continued, Astrid walked over to a large, covered model of an airplane.
With a flourish, she pulled off the cover, revealing a stunning, scale-model of the airline’s new flagship plane.
The crowd erupted into applause as Astrid struck a pose beside the model, her eyes sparkling with pride. Josh’s face twisted into a snarl, his hands clenched into fists.
Just as Astrid began to speak again, a loud, piercing noise echoed through the terminal, making everyone jump. The camera shook and wobbled, and for a moment, the broadcast went dark.
When the picture flickered back to life, Astrid was stumbling backward, her eyes wide with shock and fear. A man, dressed in a black jumpsuit, was rushing toward her, a sinister-looking device clutched in his hand.
The crowd erupted into chaos, people screaming and running for cover. Julian and the Logans rushed to Astrid’s side, trying to protect her from the attacker.
Josh’s eyes gleamed with malevolent triumph as he watched the chaos unfold on live TV he had a satisfactory smile on his face.
He had planned this attack meticulously, and had been expecting it to transpire.
As the camera continued to roll, capturing the shocking scene.
*********
Astrid’s eyes widened in terror as the man rushed toward her, his sinister looking device clutched in his hand.
But before he could reach her, Julian sprang into action, his reflexes lightning-fast as he tackled the attacker to the ground.
The scene erupted into chaos, with people screaming and running for cover.
The live broadcast cut off abruptly, and the media descended upon the scene like vultures, their cameras and microphones at the ready.
Julian quickly scrambled to his feet, his eyes locked on Astrid as he rushed to her side. "Astrid, are you okay?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.
Astrid nodded, still in shock, guards surrounded them immediately as they grabbed the attacker from him.
"Let’s leave now.." he let out as Julian quickly ushered her toward the waiting car which pulled up in front of them. They sped away from the scene, leaving the chaos and confusion behind.
As they drove off, he pulled out his phone and quickly texted a message to the world media, instructing them not to breathe a word about the attack or Astrid’s involvement.
He also sent a separate message to his team, ordering them to investigate the attack and find out who was behind it.
Astrid sat beside him, her eyes fixed on his face as she struggled to process what had just happened.
"Julian, what...what just happened?" she stammered.
Julian’s expression was grim as he glanced over at her. "We will talk about it later, Astrid. For now, just focus on getting home safely."
They arrived at Astrid’s villa a few minutes later, and Julian quickly helped her out of the car.
Astrid’s legs felt like jelly as she stumbled toward the front door, Julian’s arm wrapped tightly around her waist to support her.
Once they were safely inside, Julian led Astrid to the living room, where she collapsed onto the couch, her eyes fixed on his face. "Julian, what just happened?" She asked again, her voice shaking.
Julian’s expression was grim as he sat down beside her. "I don’t know, Astrid... I am trying to find out."
Astrid nodded, still trying to process the events of the past hour. But as she looked up at Julian, she saw the concern etched on his face, and her heart swelled with gratitude. "Thank you, Julian," she whispered.
Julian’s eyes softened as he smiled at her. "Anytime, Astrid. Now, tell me, is there anything you remember about the attacker?"
Astrid thought back, trying to recall any details. And then, suddenly, she remembered the night when someone had stopped her car and looked at her weirdly.
"Julian, I think this might be connected to something that happened a few nights ago," she said, her voice hesitant.
Julian’s eyes snapped toward hers, his expression intense. "What happened?" he demanded.
Astrid explained the incident that had occurred the night she saw a wide figure in front of her car, and Julian’s face grew darker with each passing moment.
"Why didn’t you tell me about this?" he asked.
Astrid shrugged. "I didn’t think it was a big deal and besides, you are always telling me to be careful, and I didn’t want to hear it again."
Julian’s eyes flashed with anger, and he reached out, grabbing her arm.
"Astrid, you have to tell me these things," he said, his voice rising. "I am trying to protect you, and you are not making it easy."
Astrid’s eyes widened in shock as she stared up at Julian. "Don’t yell at me," she said, her voice trembling.
Julian’s face fell, and he quickly released her arm. "Astrid, I am sorry," he said, his voice softening. "I was just worried that you might get hurt."
Astrid’s expression softened, and she nodded. "I know, Julian, and I am sorry too. I should have told you."
Julian smiled, relief washing over his face. "It’s okay, Astrid. Just promise me you will be more careful from now on."
Astrid nodded, and Julian’s eyes locked onto hers. "Now, tell me what Rowan said to you that day," he asked gently.
Astrid hesitated, unsure of how to reveal the shocking news. Her voice trembled as she recalled the news Rowan had heard.
Julian’s eyes narrowed. "What is it?" he asked, his voice soft.
Astrid took a deep breath. "Rowan told me that Josh isn’t my real father."
Julian’s eyes widened in shock, and he felt like he had been punched in the gut.
His phone buzzed, he pulled out his phone and then picked up his call. "Hello, Boss."
"Spit it out." Julian let out sounding pissed already.
"The attacker who was in our custody just got killed,"
