Chapter 315: 154 Secret Insect Swarm

Compared to the New Federation’s well-developed defense systems, the Sherman Empire’s situation, one could hardly say was just a little inferior, but rather a complete mess.

This left Yang Ming’s team, accustomed to stealing from the New Federation, feeling somewhat out of place at the moment.

"Weren’t they afraid of an enemy suddenly attacking?"

Lyu muttered softly,

"The stable gravitational area on the outskirts of the Star System doesn’t have a gravitational detection device, and the space close to the Administrative Star has more than half of its networking detectors aged beyond usability.

"The patrol ships we just encountered didn’t even have their radars set to full power, we could see several male crew members drinking and dancing through the portholes.

"Ridiculous!"

Yang Ming merely asked in return, "Do you think there’s anyone who dares to openly declare war with Sherman?"

Lyu was at a loss for words.

At this moment, two additional ’proper’ chairs appeared on Feinan’s bridge.

Yang Ming took charge of the piloting area, 026 was in the fire control zone, while Hera temporarily sat behind the onboard detector operation panel, watching with a smile as Yang Ming and Lyu bantered back and forth.

This was how the entire journey had been.

The incessantly chattering virtual assistant, the optimistic yet cautious repairman in front of Yang Ming, made Hera feel no sense of alienation.

After three Galaxy Days of travel and a dozen detours and warp jumps, Feinan successfully entered the Constant Star System where Zubin Star was located.

"Start plotting the detection route."

Yang Ming called out, and Lyu immediately unfolded a three-dimensional star map, adjusting the ratio between stars and distances to compress the details of the current Constant Star System into a two-meter diameter projection.

Yang Ming circled two planets.

"Label them according to their distance from the Constant, the nearest planet is Target One, where the Constant’s impact is significant, which can easily cause errors in the detection instruments.

"The farthest planet, number Seven, is the second target, as it is relatively concealed.

"Planet number Six is a gas giant with an extremely harsh environment, we have prepared two special drones which were deployed when passing by, but monitoring completion will take at least ten days or so. It’s highly unlikely there will be worm eggs there as first and second-rank insects can’t survive the storms in gas giants.

"Apart from the Zubin Star, the other three planets are listed as the third target to be investigated in order of priority."

raised its right hand.

"Speak."

asked puzzledly, "Boss, why aren’t we investigating Zubin Star?"

Yang Ming replied with a smile, "The outskirts of the Administrative Star are fortified with a dense defense network, and though Zubin Star may be desolate, its near-planet defense systems are still comprehensive."

"We need to consider what considerations the New Federation might have when carrying out such tasks," Lyu added, "They are unlikely to take such enormous risks, as getting discovered here would expose the entire plan."

Hera, seeming to pose as exemplary, signaled, "I believe, precisely because of this, we should more carefully investigate Zubin Star."

Yang Ming asked, "Why?"

"The step of placing worm eggs is executed by a small elite force of CIA operatives."

Hera stated softly,

"The CIA is most adept at comprehensive infiltration, if they merely transport the Mother Worm without the eggs, one container might not draw much attention.

"Defying logic and acting unexpectedly also suits the CIA’s style.

"They might create a scenario of hidden darkness under a lamp, additionally, although Zubin Star retains the basis of a defense system, it’s not very active with vast uninhabited urban areas."

"To detect on Zubin Star, we’d have to get overly close to their defense systems," Lyu pondered carefully, "Thus, we’ll face significant risk, so I suggest carefully examining the other planets first."

Yang Ming clapped his hands, signaling the three ladies to look at him.

He earnestly stated,

"When I get close enough to the Insect Race, I should be able to sense them, hence, we must approach this from multiple angles.

"Lyu will handle piloting and vigilance, 026 will assist Hera, and Hera will operate various detection instruments, while I pilot a stealth craft to perform rapid maneuvers on the planetary surface, maybe we’ll get lucky.

"This intelligence is from a New Federation CIA file we decrypted, which hadn’t been completely deleted, so the results may not be accurate.

"We’ll treat this as a vacation, with an overall deadline of twenty Galaxy Days. If there are no findings, we will leave immediately."

"Yes!"

Lyu and 026 replied in unison.

Hera gave Yang Ming a slight nod, put on her glasses, and began adjusting parameters on various detection devices.

Feinan left the asteroid’s backside, viewing Zubin Star across the Constant, heading straight for Target One.

On the bridge, the silhouettes of three women busily carried out their tasks.

Dressed in a loosely fitting maintenance uniform, 026 dashed about, continually bringing tea, snacks, and warmth to Hera aside from aiding with work.

Lyu sat in the captain’s seat with an air of legitimacy, maneuvering Feinan through various high-difficulty flights, avoiding potential areas with space detectors.

Half a day later, Yang Ming piloted a small craft, speeding back and forth on Target One’s planetary surface.

Hera continually adjusted the nine different types of biological detectors installed on Feinan, carefully monitoring all data feedback, occasionally attempting to clear her mind, sensing with her own body.

After more than ten hours of continuous work, Yang Ming returned to Feinan.

Target One was confirmed with no abnormalities.

There was no feedback from the instruments, and neither Yang Ming nor Hera felt any anomalies.

Feinan began the journey toward Target Two planet, the three carbon-based lifeforms on the ship seized the opportunity to rest while Lyu worked tirelessly around the clock...without pause.

For twelve consecutive days.
