Chapter 92: Chapter 88 Game Details and Great Harvest

Huh? This thing can pick up items too?

Xiao Jie had never before encountered a monster with the ability to pick up items in this game.

That’s right, ’pick-up little monster,’ that’s essentially a scavenger, isn’t it?

Xiao Jie had a sudden thought. He threw a steamed bun on the ground, but the pick-up little monster showed a look of disdain, deliberately turning its head away and not sparing it a glance.

Throwing again, this time an iron sword that had been replaced.

This time, the pick-up little monster showed a reaction, sneaking peeks this way.

So it’s like this, the better the item, the bigger the reaction, huh?

What if—

Xiao Jie suddenly threw a spirit stone seal on the ground.

The pick-up little monster immediately showed an expression of scratching its ears and cheeks, dancing around as if wanting to run over and snatch it, yet still afraid of the axe and sword the two humans wielded, it could only stand there stomping its feet.

"I Want to Be Immortal" said excitedly, "Feng, it seems to have a reaction. If we throw a couple more items, maybe we can lure it over."

Xiao Jie said calmly, "I know. The problem is whether we can keep it once it comes here."

This thing has 120 blood volume, which isn’t particularly high or low; the key is that it’s too fast. There’s basically only one chance to strike, and if we can’t kill it in a second, and it gets away with the spirit stone seal, then we’d be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

"Let me think."

Xiao Jie began to ponder.

To keep it here, the best method is to have enough damage to kill it instantly, but that’s difficult. If both people used their combat skills together, they might manage it, but that requires both to hit simultaneously. If one person makes a mistake, it’ll get away.

The second method is to cut its legs. Looking at the pick-up little monster’s slim arms and legs, if you chop them, there’s a high chance of triggering Limb Cutting.

But it’s not 100% successful; it didn’t trigger when chopping horse legs before.

Looking up, Xiao Jie’s eyes suddenly lit up, and he turned his gaze back to the stick that the pick-up little monster was carrying with a cloth bag hanging from it. Everything it picked up seemed to be stuffed into that bag; that stick looked a bit like a piece of dry firewood. Could it be chopped in one strike?

In reality, one strike would definitely suffice to chop it, but it’s uncertain in the game, depending on how the system determines it. The stick could be considered equipment or an accessory, and it’s unknown whether it can be destroyed.

After pondering for a while, Xiao Jie felt very confident. Some games are designed without any consideration for real-world logic.

Monsters are haphazardly mixed together; slapping on a different skin makes a new monster. Professions, skills, and quests have no real-world references, created haphazardly as the designers thought up, often differentiating monsters only by their textures.

Other games try to keep in-game logic as close to reality as possible, and to achieve this, they work on various details.

This game clearly belongs to the latter category. From the various details in the game, it’s not hard to see this game simulates real-life logic, which is very important.

Weapons bounce off walls, shields break when durability is exhausted, wood and wheat straw cause environmental damage when burned, crows peck at wheat in the fields... and so on.

Therefore, the stick that the pick-up little monster is holding should also be possible to chop, and if it can be chopped, then I’m guaranteed to succeed, after all, I’m a professional Chopping Wood worker.

Great! It’s settled then.

"Cheng Xian, I have a plan now. We do this, then this, and then this..."

After listening to Xiao Jie’s plan, "I Want to Be Immortal" had a glint in his eyes, but he was still not very confident in his own skills.

"Can we do it, Feng? What if I mess up?"

"No worries! Your skills might not be top-notch but they’re definitely not bad. You just tend to get too excited; just stay calm and collected and you’ll definitely succeed. Don’t worry, even if by chance we fail, it’s no big deal. There’s no threat to our lives.

We’ll strike it rich if we win, and if we lose, we’ll start over. It’s just one treasure lost, and Ginkgo Valley is so vast, we’ll be able to snatch it back sooner or later."

"Alright, I’ll follow your lead, let’s go!" said "I Want to Be Immortal" in a deep voice.

"Good, now take a step back."

"I Want to Be Immortal" did as told, and the pick-up little monster kept jumping around, but still dared not come closer.

Heh, quite cautious, isn’t it? Xiao Jie also took a step back following suit.

Now, "I Want to Be Immortal"—spirit stone seal—Xiao Jie, the three were in a straight line.

The pick-up little monster slowly shifted its feet, moving to the diagonal direction of this line. This way, if it rushed to snatch the stone seal, it wouldn’t be intercepted. It would only have to endure one attack from each person and could then take away the spirit stone seal.

The pick-up little monster seemed to hesitate, making strange noises. Xiao Jie didn’t back off anymore; retreating further would be too risky. He bent down, charging up, ready to block with his slash—

"I Want to Be Immortal" also raised his giant axe, ready to strike at any moment.

Finally, the pick-up little monster couldn’t resist the temptation and dashed over.

"It’s coming, get ready!"

Just as the little monster was three meters away from the spirit stone seal, "Cheng Xian!"

Xiao Jie shouted loudly.

"I Want to Be Immortal" charged up, Splitting Stone—

The pick-up little monster suddenly sped up, instantly reaching the spirit stone seal, stretching out its hand. Without seeing how it picked it up, the spirit stone seal disappeared.

Then it turned and ran.

Slash! The giant axe fell sharply, not aiming at the monster, but at the path in front of where the monster was fleeing.

The pick-up little monster was quite agile, coming to a screeching halt.

Xiao Jie got exactly the effect he wanted; if the Splitting Stone Slash was hard to hit, then the solution was simply to seal its path.

In two halves!

Having charged his power for half a day, Xiao Jie swung his sword down, but the strike was not aimed at the little monster’s head, as it had 120 Life Value and clearly wouldn’t die from a single blow.

He also didn’t aim for its slender legs, but instead chopped at the wooden stick it was using to carry a small bag.

With a snap, the dry firewood-like stick broke in response, and the small bag hanging from it also fell to the ground immediately.

The pick-up little monster hadn’t yet realized its bundle had been chopped off and jumped away from the giant axe to escape faster.

Xiao Jie immediately clicked to loot, securing the bag in his pack, and watching the pick-up little monster carrying the broken stick running far away, he couldn’t help but laugh heartily. Ahahaha, what’s it called when you pick up sesame seeds but lose a watermelon?

It was only after the pick-up little monster had run quite a distance that it felt something was amiss. Upon turning around and finding the bag gone, it became frantic and charged back in a frenzy to fight.

It seemed that the bag was indeed very important to it, but thinking about it, it made sense, for the creature would fight desperately for a single spirit stone seal, let alone losing all its possessions which would only make it even crazier.

However, its desperation was futile, as this thing was just a Level 1 little monster with no skills other than being fast and picking things up.

Xiao Jie certainly wasn’t going to be polite, dispatching it with two chops.

He patted down the body.

You received 1755 copper coins!

Holy shit, that’s a lot of money, but there was no additional loot.

Feeling anxious, Xiao Jie clicked to open his bag, looking at the bag inside, which showed—

[Pick-Up Little Monster’s Treasure Pouch (12 slots)]

Extra Sack: Provides an extra 12/12 slots for your backpack.

Item Introduction: A bag used by pick-up little monsters to collect treasures, capable of holding much more than it appears. It is said these bags are made by the Shiyi Ancestor and given to his progeny to collect treasures.]

Xiao Jie’s eyes lit up. What a great item! Just the backpack alone was undoubtedly very valuable. Players’ backpacks only had 40 slots, and though they were sufficient for now, it was bound to become an issue later when levels were higher and there were more items. This thing directly expanded the backpack by almost a third.

He opened it to find that it was filled to the brim. Xiao Jie began checking each item.

Rusty Iron Sword—Trash.

Broken Leather Armor—Trash.

Trash, still trash.

Hmm, a spirit stone seal, back in its rightful hands.

Arrows x47, not bad, a replenishment for arrows at least.

Red Jade Ring: Life Value +10! What a nice item.

Trash, trash, trash, hmm, a Godspeed Talisman! Another great find.

[Godspeed Talisman (Talisman/Single-use item)]

Usage Conditions: None.

Use: Increases your movement speed by 30% for 20 seconds.]

Could this be the real reason why the pick-up little monster was so fast? But can monsters use items? This is something to note down...

This Godspeed Talisman is definitely a precious item. Speed is incredibly valuable in this game; in dire situations, one talisman can mean the difference between life and death.

The last item, however, was an elixir.

[Heavenly King Life-saving Pill (Elixir)]

Use: Grants you a ’Heavenly King Life Protection’ state that lasts for 30 minutes.

Trigger Condition: When receiving fatal damage, consume this state to forcibly leave the player with 1 point of Life Value (After activation, the Heavenly King Life Protection state disappears).

Item Introduction: An elixir made by the alchemists of Pharmacist Valley, known for its unique effect.]

Another great item, this pill might not be useful during normal monster fights and leveling, but in a PK scenario, it could very well be a game-changer.

After pondering for a moment, Xiao Jie gave the Red Jade Ring and Godspeed Talisman to I Want to Be Immortal, and also shared half of the copper coins with him.

He kept the Heavenly King Life-saving Pill and the bag for himself.

"Make sure to use the Godspeed Talisman only at a critical moment," he said, "You’re too slow, and with it, you might at least be able to escape if you encounter an enemy you can’t beat. Don’t waste it."

"Thanks, Feng," I Want to Be Immortal replied, visibly pleased. His short legs were indeed a problem, but with the Godspeed Talisman, he could somewhat compensate for this issue. It was a lifesaver and should be used only in crucial moments.

"Alright, let’s hurry back to the village and have a good rest. Once we level up to 8, we’ll go to the Ancient Tomb to complete your investigation quest," Xiao Jie suggested.

"Really?" I Want to Be Immortal was surprised. "Feng, you were quite cautious about exploring the tomb before."

"Of course, it’s true. The reason we didn’t dare to go before was that you were too slow. If we really encountered danger, I couldn’t just sell you out. Now that we have the Godspeed Talisman, we can give it a try."

He had been reluctant to investigate the Ancient Tomb primarily because if they met danger, he would be fine, but I Want to Be Immortal might not be able to escape. Now with the Godspeed Talisman, there was nothing to fear.

The Corpse Group driven by Corpse Chasers mainly consisted of soulless zombies, zombies, and Corpse-eating Dogs. The first two were not fast, but the Corpse-eating Dog was a nuisance.

Luckily, there weren’t many of these creatures, with only three or four accompanying each Corpse Chaser.

As long as they could get away from the Monster Group, dealing with a few Stone-eating Dogs was not a big deal.

Of course, to play it safe, it would still be better to wait until Level 8 before making the trip.
